  1. "Hard & Fast Rule" They do on Autotrader, if you advertise more than 6 (I think) cars in a year they do it automatically that you are a trader. Don't know why Ebay cant do the same. Mike. yep gumtree has a similar rule in place Just looking at the same car on gumtree, got there putting 07555920534 in google. Where does it say whether trade or private? Not saying it doesn't, just that I can't see it. thats being sold by lexuschap Trade Yes, I realise that, but where does it actually say it's a trade ad? Couldn't see that, don't for get Gumtree belongs to Ebay so I doubt they are really bothered. Mike Does it really, I didn't know that. I'm sure you're correct about them not being bothered, nobody seems to be these days, it's all about the money. Isn't it a sad indictment on our society? Mike. It is indeed, but look at the example set by our grasping politicians, and what can we expect?
  2. Doesn't sound right to me. As I posted above, Japanese cars were able to run on unleaded in the early eighties, so I can't see the LS being built without hardened valve seats, particularly as it's main market was the US, where they were ahead of us on emissions. Also, any car with a catalytic converter, had to run on unleaded, so as not to wreck the cat.

The point i was making about gumtree is if you list a certain number of cars for sale in a year then you have to start paying Ah right.

  7. To be fair, if suspension is worn out after 100,000 miles/10 years, or more, I don't think that's too shocking. BUT, it's the price to fix it that is shocking, especially when the value of the car is less than the repair cost.
  8. I haven't done enough miles to disprove his theory, but I had the owners personal transport, a lpg converted Land cruiser amazon, when mine was being done, and that ran perfectly after many miles on gas. I remember when unleaded first came in, and we had a load of Datsun/Toyota vehicles as taxis, all of which were already capable of using it without valve seat damage, unlike a lot of European/British cars at the time.
  9. It's nearly as cheap as this privately entered LS400 on auto trader. Although, if you enter the phone number 07555920534 in to google, you might doubt the private bit, especially if you also see the same car on ebay. It's about time there was a hard and fast rule about who is and isn't a trader. Incidentally, have you ever seen such a knackered steering wheel on an LS? Edited to remove the links, as they didn't work, for some reason, just look on autotrader for a £1000 LS400 with the phone number above, if you're interested.
  10. I'm also on LPG, and there are a few others on here as well. Can't say I recall anybody having problems related to valve wear.
  11. Forgot to say, auxillary belt is probably the easiest I've ever done. Mine looked fine on the car, but for what they cost I changed it for a Gates belt anyway. On inspecting the old belt, I'm glad I did, as it had quite a lot of fine cracks when turned inside out.
  12. Another vote for genuine oil filters here, for what they cost why risk anything else? Also for good quality fully synthetic oil, though I get the feeling our engines are so bulletproof they'd run on just about anything!!
  13. You're right Malc, parts being so expensive is a big factor in writing our cars off. There is another factor though, which applies to all cars, and that is the cost of providing a hire car while yours is off the road. We had one for months when our Nissan 100NX got clobbered outside our house, and was waiting for body panels to arrive, God knows what it cost the other drivers insurance company, but I bet they wished they'd written our car off instead.
  14. If you want a car with knackered suspension, keep an eye on the breaking for spares ads, I've seen a couple of tidy looking cars being scrapped for that very reason.
  15. It's a murky area, but 99% of cat C&D sales mention light damage, yet rarely provide pictorial or documentary evidence to prove that claim. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but if I repaired a write off, I'd keep any insurance documents relating to the claim, and take a load of photos of the damage, and the repair as it progressed. Unless of course I was bodging it on the cheap and being economical with the truth regarding the extent of the damage! Edited to add:- I forgot to say, if this Baz wants rid, and a dealer sold him a cat"C" without declaring it as such, why doesn't he just get his money back, rather than sell at a loss on ebay?
  16. Funny that, he says at the bottom of his ad that the damage was to the sat nav screen, done by a 14 yr old car thief out of spite, because he couldn't nick the car.
  17. The garage isn't exactly putting itself out with the advert either. That would put me off to be honest, I mean, how hard can it be to put up a few decent photos?
  18. The only bit I can help you with is that my car is a 99 registered MKIV, but doesn't have self folding mirrors. I may be wrong, but I think only the very last of the MKIVs had the folding mirrors, but whether the US cars were the same, I don't know.
  19. My point exactly, but when you're talking about t'internet, and ebay in particular, things are often not what they seem, so who knows?
  20. Here is a link to the previous car, bearing in mind its a different seller, well, username anyway, and neither ad is obviously "trade", how come the blurb is virtually identical. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221685803556?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D221685803556%26_rdc%3D1&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true Here is a link to the current car http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301820514796?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  21. As per the thread title, seems very odd to me, but what do I know? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-Isf-breaking-for-parts/281868800150?_trksid=p2045573.c100034.m2102&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107092241%26meid%3D6035a948f8f94c91909a629eb773a581%26pid%3D100034%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D181949971276
