  1. My dad bought his first car in 1960, a brand new Triumph Herald........well it actually said Triuwth on the bonnet, as the M was upside down. It took longer to spot the other mistake though, the reg was UDW 820 at the front, but the back plate was a different number. Don't bother looking up that number to see if it's still around, it died in Nov 66, one month after I passed my test, after I repaid his kindness in lending the car to me, by stuffing it in to a lorry, with sufficient force to remove the engine from it's mountings. The only saving grace was a good insurance pay out, which paid for a lovely used Humber Sceptre auto, that he also let me drive. He was certainly a kinder, more forgiving man than me!!
  2. The white MKIV is way overpriced, considering aircon and sat nav is not working, let alone the fact it's a cat"D".
  3. Welcome marc, just been at bro in laws for new year, at Great Ouseburn. A bit damp, to say the least, hope you kept dry.
  4. Disagree. Clearly those backing and promoting this aren't yet 70years of age Young drivers, uninsured drivers, drunk drivers, foreign drivers with micky mouse licenses, drivers with no licence, drivers of stolen cars.............probably all more likely to kill you on the roads than a 70 year old.
  5. I have working sat nav, but never use it. An £80 tomtom, including 4 free map updates a year for life, blows it in to the weeds I'm afraid.
  6. It could be that your arms are twisted. I've cured noisy wipers in the past, by twisting the flat part of the arm gently with pliers. Standing by the screen on the drivers side, with the wipers pointing to the top of the screen, if they judder when sweeping towards the drivers side, try twisting the blade anti clockwise a touch.......vice versa if they judder towards passenger side.
  7. Welcome John, I've never been in a GS, but can thoroughly recommend a MKIV LS400. I'm a shocker for changing my cars, but have now had my LS for about three years, a new record for me, and no plans to get rid any time soon. Get a good example, and you'll love it.
  8. I am having mine done with Grove Garage after Christmas. They did the Y piece in the Exhaust earlier in the year and they are a great bunch of helpful people. They have quoted me £471 to include VAT and replacement water pump all with genuine Lexus parts. They are also lending me a car while its being done so I can have a nice day out in Brighton. Lets hope the sun shines. Mike. That's not bad, and I had my y-pipe done by them too, they seemed a good bunch, as you say. I was planning to do mine shortly, but at that price, I'm tempted not to get my hands dirty, plus I'd have paperwork should I need to sell the car. Does that include new pulleys Mike? Not that I am aware of. Mike. I guess he'll fit if needed then, easy enough to feel for any roughness or play once the belt's off. Still a good price though. Enjoy your day in Brighton.

  10. Merry Xmas to all. As your present, here's a nice little clip of a men and motors LS400 road test, although the tester is a bit uninformed, he's far less irritating than the TG pillocks. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBh9rxPW5vk
  11. Lesson to be learned here, having invested all that time and fuel getting to him, you were ripe for the picking, in terms of lowering your price, rather than having to drive back with nothing. He, of course, would have insisted on full payment, plus a delivery fee in advance of making the trip, had he been the seller. Better still, let the buyer invest in travelling to you, then you have the upper hand. :)
  12. So, if there's nobody to enforce it "live", as it were, let's use cameras to catch them. The ones that really chill my blood are the HGV drivers who weave into and out of the hard shoulder area as you come up behind them. If I'm in my motorhome, it's possible to see what they've been up to as you pass them.....paperwork being filled in on their lap, tv screens on, laptop computers, and of course, the dreaded phones........it's hard to imagine anything more irresponsible, when you consider the possible carnage. I'd also prosecute lane hoggers using camera evidence, which, in my opinion, would make a massive difference to congestion.
  13. You're welcome Steve. I really do fancy one myself, problem is, I can't bring myself to part with my lovely LS.
  14. Just short of a thousand(830), info here https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=lexus+is+250c
  15. I saw a couple of nice 400s recently on ebay, but I've just checked, and out of the ten cars listed, none appealed, unless you want to pay silly money for low miles. Best of luck in your search, and Happy Xmas to all posters.
  16. Here's where I bought the correct antifreeze for the LS. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Toyota-Long-Life-Red-Coolant-Antifreeze-Concentrate-5-Litres-0888980014-/221764134022?hash=item33a22c2486:g:33sAAOxyeR9TGZT8 Crosland air filter here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIKAYO-Air-Filter-Round-Type-Lexus-LS-UCF20-1994-2000-Saloon-/331459084569?hash=item4d2c804119 Gates auxillary belt here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111457566749?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Have fun!
  17. Sorry to say, but that's one hefty clout, so I don't think I'd want it repaired, better to move on and get another imo.
  18. Yep, there are a few Lexus and Toyota dealers on ebay. Think my oil filter was from Birmingham Lexus. Here is a link to a current listing of theirs, spark plugs in this case. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171337549090?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  19. BTW this is the new one he's getting... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-Lexus-LS400-4-0-V8-/161912160817?hash=item25b2b78231:g:ywwAAOSwbdpWZx3L It doesn't look like he's actually bought it yet because as you can see it's still for sale. He (baz) is already using this seller's LS400 photos to advertise his wedding chauffeur service: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221945414008 Seems a bit cheeky! (But not half as cheeky as the glimpse of pink sock.) I'd noticed that as well, he's only recently changed it from the catC car. I wonder if it was ex private hire, as well as catC, we certainly had to register wedding cars as such back in the 80's, even our old Rollers.
  20. Wierd. I suppose you could narrow it down a bit by trying steering with the car stationary. If the fault appears, then at least you know it's related to the actual steering, rather than the movement of the car itself. Next step....................erm???
  21. I think Mark is referring to the fact there is only one mot on record for this car. I wonder if the private plate is the cause of this confusion, as the car supposedly has a full service history, and I can't believe a dealer would make such a crude attempt to clock it, knowing how easy it is now to check these things.
  22. Yep, 99T reg, took a few attempts to get it running right, but once sorted has been faultless since, probably done around 12,000 miles. Regarding the valve seat thing, I used to maintain Datsun Bluebirds and Laurels, as well as a few Toyotas, and they all reached around 200,000 miles as 24hr a day taxis, driven by an assortment of lunatics, and not one had valve trouble. I had the heads off a few that had overheated and blown the gasket, again, no sign of any VSR.
