Looks like things have improved somewhat as mine was up and running the same day as vehicle collection. -
Wanted RX 450h

I can’t help you but colour, if you find one, would be a great combo with Mesa Red and cream interior. I went for Sonic Titanium with cream but red / cream was a very close second. It was probably the fact the wife has a red car that stopped me getting the Mesa Red. -

I’ll use it whilst I’ve got it but I can’t really see any benefit as my iPhone has huge amounts of data per month but I suppose I could ‘attach’ the iPad to the car rather than using the iPhone as a hotspot. -

I noticed today that the nav software is Autumn 2019. Bizarre, given the car left the factory on the 16 September 2020. Correctly, the car has told me that the maps are due an update to 2020/01. I’ll be doing the update this weekend OTA!🙀🤞 I’ll probably still have to have the car running for an hour but we’ll see. -

I wondered why, when I was syncing my phone that I kept getting a WiFi hotspot and then, this afternoon I found a WiFi box hidden in the boot under the little panel on the right hand side. Is that standard? -

Ok, I got my first RX yesterday - brand new factory build Takumi. Sonic Titanium with rich cream / dark brown shimamoku wood. I’ve previously driven a MY20 RX F Sport over a 24 hour period so I was already aware of good and bad points over my ES but I’ve always wanted an RX. RX good points: build quality, high quality materials and effortless power. ML audio is very good but the ES system, to me, sounds better. Road presence is epic but bizarrely quite a bit shorter than the ES. The ES is only 15mm off 5m in length. 20’ rims are stunning and front end is particularly attractive but the air scoops are fake and blocked off but it feels like they might be removable. Already been stared at by quite a few passers by, mind you, so did the ES. The HUD, whilst the same 10.2” as the ES is laid out differently. Not worst, just a different layout. Poor points: Bladescan lights are hopeless and worst than my ES Takumi, both of which are woeful compared to the adaptive lights in the wife’s Mazda CX-30 GT Sport Tech. I’ve a 60mph test road that’s completely dark just a few minutes near to where I live. I ended up driving on high beam (rather than adaptive) and this was better. The difference really is night and day between the Lexus and Mazda lights. The heated steering wheel is not automatic unlike the ES and barely registers any warmth. The thigh extenders on both front seats don’t extend (unlike the ES), they simply raise up or down the nose of the seat. I wasn’t able to test this out beforehand. The pan roof doesn’t open very far but I was already aware of that from driving the F Sport. Overall though, I love the RX and it’s going to be great living with it for the next 18-24 months. It really does feel very special and luxurious. As it was raining the centre kindly stuck the car in the handover bay. The handover room that leads in to the bay was closed off like the showroom but they intentionally left the main vehicle bay doors open to air the space. I simply got the keys, walked in to the bay and drove off without touching anything. I didn’t see a problem with that especially as I was wearing a mask and had sanitised my hands. There is a external canopy but the driving rain would have been wetting the car along one side. As I wasn’t able to get the full handover experience because the showroom and handover room was closed plus not getting the usual freebies I get my first service free. -
Android / Apple Carplay

I’m changing my car today which has CarPlay built in but I would still have upgraded my ES if I’ve kept it. I prefer to see the music how it’s laid out as it is on my phone (Apple Music) and it’s certainly easier asking for music through CarPlay than the native Lexus system which forever says “pardon” or plays something entirely different. I know what you mean about losing the HUD in favour of a different nav system. My wife’s last two cars have had CarPlay and a HUD and I sometimes favour, when driving her car Apple Maps’ clearer, brighter experience and accept losing the HUD directions. -

The HUD was never going to work with CarPlay as the Lexus software needs to be rewritten to allow multi displays. It’s probably not very high on their agenda given they’re still trying to roll out CarPlay to other models. No manufacturer, as far as I know, have implemented it yet but it’ll likely be either BMW or Audi first to do it. For now, I’ll use the native nav whilst navigating so I can keep the HUD and use CarPlay for music and messages. -

My ES does this and my previous NX. Both return to park if you turn off the ignition part way through the sweep. They also don’t spray the windscreen if a door isn’t fully closed. The headlight washers operate but the windscreen doesn’t even if the door is mostly closed. -
Hello from a soon to be UX owner

Good to see and MarineTraffic is the shipping app. You’ll lose the boat shortly as it crosses the Arabian Sea and pick it up again towards the Gulf of Aden. Armed guards will be brought on board before it gets close to Somalia. A ship full of cars would be worth stealing given there’s approximately £320m worth of cars on board (8000 cars x £40k average per vehicle) plus the value of the ship. Got to be worth a chunk of money to hand the ship back. From the Gulf of Aden you’ll be able to see the ship pretty much all the way home. It’ll stop before the Suez Canal to await the next north bound slot. If you type in Portbury in the search icon at the top of the app, then click on Portbury (Port) you’ll be able to see ships in port plus departures and arrivals at the top of the page. ‘Your’ ship will show up in Expected Arrivals. Cars are leaving Portbury and heading to Lexus Centres during the lockdown and the Centres themselves are staying open to service cars as well as MOTs and PDIs albeit with reduced staff. Happy tracking👍 -

I really cannot see the CarPlay nav display being duplicated in either the TFT screen and/ or the HUD. Whilst a recent update to CarPlay facilitated the nav mirroring to other displays - and not just the main infotainment screen - it’s down to each manufacturer to enable it. So far, I’m not aware of any manufacturer doing this yet. However, you never know. Lexus might surprise us🙄. They were after all, the first manufacturer to integrate a nav system into a car. -
NX ANY NEWS ON RAV 4 running gear upgrade ?
Habu replied to Henry W's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Currently, yes. I think the touch pad is ok, it’s the clunky software you have to navigate around that lets the side down. It’s likely the next NX will get a touchscreen like the RX. -
NX ANY NEWS ON RAV 4 running gear upgrade ?
Habu replied to Henry W's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
It probably won’t happen until the new NX model comes out - late 2021 or more likely 2022 I would guess. The ES has the same 4th gen hybrid and new ICE as in the RAV and Camry. It’s a great system and I can hit 50mpg all day long in the ES and into the low 60s on a hot run. I never got much over 37mpg in the NX. -
Map fonts hard to read on 10 inch screen

That’s a good idea. I hadn’t thought of that as I always have the whole screen as one map. I’ll try it next time. -

I’ve never got that to work. I’ve tried Off, Near and Far and it always zooms out to half of the town you’re in when you really need it to zoom into the junction. Been like that on all my Lexus cars. If anyone finds a way to lock the zoom please let me know. -
Wash or wash and polish

Hi, I posted this on a wash thread recently on the UX forum. My current 2 cars were ceramic coated (SiO2) at the PDI stage before collection and it’s a glass coat that covers all external surfaces and particularly the paint. The dealers typically charge between £349 and £399 for this product but it lasts for 5 years. Products such as Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax are much less outlay, give similar protection but will need reapplication every 6-12 months depending on use. If your car is more than 12 months old it’s really important to clay the paintwork beforehand so it’s nice and smooth to begin with. I’ve used Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax on 2 previous cars and it’s very good. Good on wheels and glass too but my current 2 cars were treated at the dealers during the PDI stage with Gen 3 ceramic coating. Thankfully, the dealers have moved away from flogging Supaguard for a now much better quality product and a ceramic one too, not a glorified wax. Gen 3 is a ceramic glass topcoat that provides 5 years protection to all external parts of the car. You get epic beading with it. It’s best done at the PDI stage as the bodywork should require minimal paint correction. Yes, it’s £399 but you do get a nice small suitcase of Gen 3 products like glass cleaner, shampoo, bird poo remover, etc. Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax is about £22 at the moment (less 15% with my Gold LOC membership) and you could probably do a car with one to two bottles of the stuff. So about £40 (Meguiars) versus £400 (Gen 3). The £400 ceramic version does include a small suitcase of products including the awesome bird poo remover so let’s say that’s £60 worth of products so now it’s £40 versus £340. The Gen 3 ceramic application is generally a better product and will certainly last longer (5 years guarantee) whereas the home applied ceramic waxes much less so and will require topping up periodically. However, I’d recommend both products. I still buy the Hybrid Ceramic Wax as I’ve done the house windows with it (rain just runs off) and the en-suite shower cubicle.🙂 -

You’ve lost me with that comment. Your comment comes across as rude and unnecessary. I was stating that the car is stuck at Portbury for a few weeks whilst they possibly move the RX and NX models to another storage location. Fair enough if they are cars for storage to replenish showroom models or to shorten factory order times by offering a model in stock but there are cars awaiting delivery but nothing is moving now for a few weeks. Lexus Link is advising the car is on route to the centre from Portbury but that’s not the case. -

Well, the car is already at Portbury but there’s a delay of several weeks for NX and RX deliveries to the Lexus Centres as these models are being moved to another storage depot, apparently. I’m looking at 3-4 more weeks before the car arrives at my local centre. Not impressed as the car is sat in the depot and not being released. -

I love driving cars and I happily go from coupe to SUV to saloon and back again. There’s no particular reason other than I always grab an opportunity to drive something different. My most recent cars have been Civic Type R FN2, very modded Toyota GT86, 3 Prius (don’t ask), CT, IS, GS (so refined), Kia Sportage, NX, ES and now just about an RX. Next time? Coupe likely. -
ES boot and back window with ceramic applied. Finer rain will produce nice small beading whereas, as now, heavy rain produces larger beading.
