  1. Hi Kevin.  We had the noise complaints whilst at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire for the annual RIAT air tattoo.

I’m on my sixth Lexus now and bought a new RX Takumi in November from Lexus Teesside.
Not sure if I’ll go fully electric next time.  My wife’s boss has just bought a Tesla Model 3 for his wife so I’ll be getting updates on that over the next 12 months in terms of build quality and reliability and a mate is getting his Mustang Mach E this month so I’ll be watching that too.

    Take care.

Yes Peter... are you a helicopter pilot...? How do you know about my accident...? It was on Father's day in 2011...

Hi Kevin.  No, I don’t fly helicopters but have spent many hours in them in both military and civilian capacities.  As an avid aviation enthusiast I often read reports from the AAIB particularly if something was newsworthy.  Glad you were able to recover from the crash.  It must have been horrible.
Firing up turbines and APU’s is always annoying to many people.🙂.  I personally love it.  I remember a few years ago I was sat in Airbus’ A400M at RIAT.  We were parked on the south (public) side and as we weren’t able to get a gen set pulled across the field so the pilot was left with no option but to fire up the APU however the local council had outlawed such noisy behaviour!!!  South side of the base comes under the local council and that year they were being awkward.  No noisy activity and no US servicemen’s BBQ’s (they were always the best) as the meat was untraceable.  The Airbus pilot, however, fired the APU next time an F-16 flew passed on reheat.  It’s why most display aircraft are parked on north side as that side of the base comes under US control and noise isn’t such a problem.

Hello Stuart, I hope you and your family, and friends, are all safe and well.

The NSX was probably one of the best cars I have owned. I sold it a few months after buying it because my wife, who has MS, was struggling to get in and out of it, because the seat was so low down... I have in recent years owned cars that were/are easier for my wife to get in and out of...

The NSX is very quick to 60. Quicker and nicer to drive, than my 2 i8's, and my R8's, and also my SLS. The Nissan GTR, was probably as quick, but the ride was too hard...

I downloaded the NSX Owner's Manual to read all about it's driving modes etc, before I bought it... It's an incredible car that shouldn't depreciate as much as it does...!!! Looking on Autotrader there are some good deals...

If my wife was able to get in and out of an NSX, I would still have one in my garage... and she would also drive it...

My wife had seven Honda's before she was medically stopped from driving. I have a new Honda e, with her BO55 plate on...!

If you have problems downloading the Owners Manual, perhaps you could PM me your email, and I could send you mine...

    Stay safe... Cheers Kevin

Lovely collection of cars.  Wasn’t that the Hughes that was destroyed in a crash in 2011?

I do indeed live in Preston (funnily enough I married a Carlisle girl and we have family up there) but I'm afraid I've not yet had any dealings with them. We bought our car from Lexus Teeside and at that time Preston didn't have a Lexus dealership. Teeside were excellent to deal with in all respects so we took out a service plan with them, which has now expired, and that means that I will begin dealing with Preston in the next couple of months.

I agree with Herbie regarding his comments regarding Lexus Teesside.  It’s my nearest Centre and I’ve purchased my last 6 Lexus from them.  CT, IS, GS, NX, ES and RX in that order.  GS F Sport was the best my a country mile insofar as quality over the others whilst the ES was the most advanced and complete.  I haven’t driven my RX much yet to make any useful comments.

When dealing with Teesside I either speak with David, Tom or Chris on the sales side.

  6. I know a member on the ES forum bought his new car from Lexus Carlisle and it was very poorly prepped (black car) but the guy is a detailing Jedi so probably enjoyed a few days of extreme paint correction.  I think he has bought previously from Carlisle hence buying from them again even though he has a Lexus dealership on his doorstep in Leeds. I think the guy is SH20 so may have some insight into Lexus Carlisle in more general terms.

Hi Habu, I also have this problem with my LL, how did you fix it?

I basically deleted the account (not just the app on the phone) and started over again using the same account name and password.  I still only have a very basic service which is a waste of time so I’ve now deleted it until Lexus has a fix for the RX.

Could I ask, has anyone got a dashcam fitted to a Gen4 RX450h, especially the one that Lexus dealers sell you.

If so can you please post a pic of it and how it looks, where it has been placed and does it interfere with the built in camera the car uses for speed sign recognition etc?

As you probably know the Lexus dash cam system is now a front and rear system.  Lexus uses the Nextbase 380GWX bundle.  The system is very neat and fits flush to the glass so no dangly thing with a screen.  The Lexus cameras don’t have screens on them (which I prefer) but you can see your vids using the Cam Viewer app. The front camera is mounted always in this location (see photo) so doesn’t affect the car’s own cameras.

I should add that the rear camera is very small and you forget it’s there even though it’s mounted in the top middle of the rear glass.

I had mine fitted during the PDI and Lexus warranty the system for 3 years.  On my last Lexus, an ES, the Nextbase card failed just after the 12 month warranty period.  No problem says Lexus as we warranty it for 3 years. Two days later I had a new Nextbase SD card.

Video detail is good too, day and night.

Hi Habu, how far did you get to unraveling the 6 months free WiFi in the booth. Have you connected to it or just using your phone WiFi hotspot  Am due to pick my RX Takumi tomorrow hence wanted to be sure what questions I should be asking the dealer.

Not much further I’m afraid.  I spoke with Lexus UK who advised that it’s the centre who should have sorted out the WiFi subscription.  My app still says WiFi subscription is being processed.  I’m not overly bothered as it’s only me in the car and my Iphone has a tonne of data per month but I know the centre wants to get it sorted as the parent company - RMB - aren’t paying them as there’s an outstanding issue with the car.

Worth checking your car for the map data.  My centre must have applied the map data albeit 2019 v2 although it was easy to update to 2020 v1 over the air.

You’ll need to wait until your V5C arrives in the post to complete some of the setup procedure.

I’ve also noted that my Lexus Link has stopped displaying trips I’ve made.  Only the collection day is recorded.  My centre and Lexus UK are looking into this.

  10. Don't know about you guys but it's a bit sad to see your previous car again especially when she's parked on the used car lot.  😞  I was at my local centre today and, there in the car lot, was my beautiful ES.  I thought the Lexus centre may have moved it on but there she was.

Whilst I love the RX, the ES was very modern and did some things much better than the RX which I was aware of before buying the RX.

    Oh well, it's just a car... 😞  😞

Thanks for your reply Peter, from the way the salesman spoke to me the time factor was out of their control i.e. dictated by whatever happens with it before it arrives at the showroom. Once its there it should be very quick as I am doing my own ceramic coating and fitting mud flaps etc. Pleased with yours so far?

    Cheers,

    Barry

Hi Barry.  The RX is a beast of a car but there are things that the ES I had previously did better.  I knew this beforehand so no great surprise.  Fuel economy is a bit different.  The ES could breeze >50mpg all day long (4th gen hybrid system with new battery and new combustion engine) whereas the RX will be doing well to achieve half of the ES's figure 🙂

Thanks to Peter's guidancies I tracked my vehicle's arrival at the Port of Bristol early on the 20th November. So I then got on the dog and bone to my dealer in Hedge End Hampshire for an update for when I can pick it up. Initially they were unaware it was here and then investigated when I should be able to pick it up. 17th December was the response! It will take longer to get from Bristol to Hedge End then it took to get from Japan to Bristol by sea! Good old covid was one the factors quoted again for the protracted time-frame. I hope its worth it when it finally arrives, I am preparing myself for a call to say its been delayed into the New Year as everything has been so fluid so far. Sorry for boring you all with my moans, perhaps I'm being unreasonable.

17th December seems like a long time for a PDI and prep.  Mine was turned around in a couple of days and I picked it up only just over a week ago but I elected to leave it to the weekend to pick up.  It gave them more time to prep the car including Gen 3 ceramic to the paint, wheels and side windows, front & rear cameras and mud flaps.  Maybe your centre is very busy but I'm sure that date will come forward once the car arrives there.  My local centre has some sales people on furlough but the service department is fully operational.

Lexus link should show your car at the Port of Entry and then when it sets off for your centre.  You might need the VIN number for this to work but your centre will have this.  Mine did have a delay at the port (more checks to be done for C-19) so maybe your centre has built this into your date of the 17th?
