  1. http://www.amverselect.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-ls-400-4-0-4dr-airdrie-201507034882087 was the piping an option at new? never seen that before
  2. Jammy sod! Still jealious seeing he doesnt keep his cars for long - he might sell it soon lol? and if you be nice he might give you first refusal
  3. yes it does look a bit spruced up. those old mercs dont age very well - take a lex of the same age, throw a bucket of water on it and the paint gleams. mercs on the other hand just crumble to bit and leather starts looking so tired - a neighbour had a p reg s500 and it looked unbelieveably tired - rust on the arches and creaking suspension!
  4. yes the above is correct - i noticed that when i went from a mark 3 to mark 4 - the ls430 in this respect goes a step further - where as in the mark 4 the revs can be heard and gears felt when the engine is cold - the 430 is smooth and seamless what ever the weather !!
  5. Anyone got a tip how to remove this ****** thing without remvoign the battery? There's always one thing that own't budge or won't unclip. Looks like I have to open the catch slightly to remove looking at the other one? Hope not to have to remove battery as my back can't take it. Thanks what are we talking about here?
  6. ron have you changed your car - if i remember correctly you bought a facelift one following yours being written off?
  7. nice car - very difficult to find one scratch and dentless i bet it feels a bit wallowy compared to the 430?
  8. hi jake i dont think any of the regular guys have done major surgery like this on their engines however you need to mention which LS you got so members can answer your question p.s what is s TV?
  9. hi this gy had same problem - turned out to be a bad relay http://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-first-generation/724177-hazards-flashing-by-themselves-and-low-battery.html
  10. i cant help with an answer but i would question how all 4 valves have become faulty all at the same time - if the system is similar to the one in the 430 then it has had a very short life - all the best
  11. glad you like your gs430 - the ls400 you went to see is still advertised - i cant help thinking the dealer thought you were being too picky and just fobbed you off with the knocking story?
  12. Description says " very clean car" check out the interior ! ! ! and looks like mice chewed the key? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-LEXUS-LS430-AUTO-BRONZE-/271911218484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4f2bed34
  13. pagids have a good reputation aswell - when i do mine next i will use pagid discs with ferodo pads - just dont want any noise from braking
  14. the tyre pressure monitor just needs to be resent - look under the drivers side dash - near the pedals - one is for the keyless entry the other one is to reset the tyre pressure which you just press and hold for about 5 seconds. The suspension: you wont see much rise - mine rises roughly about an inch - you can hear a slight hum when the compressor starts and then switches off after a short interval. normally these cars sit slightly raised at the front - thats normal - i always flick the switch often just to keep the suspension parts moving as keeping it stuck in one mode does it no good - rise the suspension once in a while and also put it in sports mode. IF you do have suspension problems then if you want a trouble free fix then lexus is the only way - in the past a member had some parts replaced at an independant garage and had problems getting the suspension back up again - he ended up taking it to lexus - the good news is that suspension problems are far and few between on the facelift 430s Brake parts: try to stick reputable brand such as blueprint/feroddo - dont go for the cheapest otherwise you will get noises and groans and braking wont be as smooth. does you steering tilt/retract work?
  15. bob the creaking will be dry suspensions rubbers - only ever happened in the hot weather to me - hope yours is as simple as this
  16. you could use this example as a bargaining tool http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lexus/ls/lexus-ls-400-4-0-4dr/4271688
  17. its probably this one http://www.lcccarsales.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-ls-400-4-0-4dr-shipley-201505293867629
  18. If your looking to buy a Mark 4 here’s what to look out for: Make sure it has a full or at least a good service history which includes the cambelt change. On driving the ride should be quite smooth comfortable with no noises or creaks from the suspension. Gearbox changes should not be noticeable Upon inserting key the steering should tilt and retract - test and make sure the mechanism works When starting from cold the starter should engage and start the engine immediately - if there is clicking sound then be prepared to have the starter or starter contacts replaced - the is a big job - takes about 7 hours therefore costs a lot and finding a competent mechanic who has the knowledge to properly dismantle and reassemble everything may not be as easy as you think.. Braking should be quite and smooth - if you get a groaning noise when coming to stop that’s a sign of cheap aftermarket brake pads - they will need replacing. Check colour of gearbox oil it should be red with no smell of burning. Check all electrics work Check the temperature display backlight works - these fail and require a lot of dismantling to replace. Check the bonnet struts hold the bonnet Check there is no water or dampness in the spare wheel well - if yes then boot seal needs replacing or sealing Check the car has the correct Toyota red coolant Ask if the cabin filter has ever been changed - these are often over looked. Check toolkit is present Check for exhaust blow - the Y pipe is prone to leaking Make sure there are no warning lights lit in the dash Ideally you want 2 remote and one grey key Check the car has a matching set of tyres and wether they are branded or not - this should give an indication wether the car has been pampered or neglected Check the headlamp levelling mechanism still works - these often fail Before driving off make sure you have the say nav code and locking wheel nut key
  19. Definatley have seen that before - i think it was advertised by the seller then taken off and now being re-advertised
