  1. cant say i have seen it before - heres a few things to check 1) Check ride is all smooth with no clunks and gearbox is smooth 2) Check coolant is red orangy colour and not contaminated 3) Check all electrics - steering motors tend to fail 4) Check the suspension goes up and down when flicked 5) Check for rear glass demalination 6) Check bonnet opener is working - the cable tends to fail 7) Check boot is easy to lift and open - otherwise struts might be shot 8) Check for rust around body especially front doors around the plastic trim and rear numberplate 9) Check parking sensors work - they tend to fail and are normally switched off 10) Check sound system properly with volume on high to ensure no blown speakers/woofer 11) Check you have 2 keyless keys and the function works and the soft closing doors aswell 12) Check of the cabin filter has been changed - these are often overlooked thats all i can think of at the moment HTH
  2. hi darklore you appear to know alot about the hybrid system in these cars i have been considering one of these for a while but when i read about hybrid cells starting to fail on as low as 70k miles it scares - but i still want one lol when buying what should one look out for apart from the abvious service history and hybrid health check. Are there any tell tales signs of imminent hybrid battery/component failure is it best to go for a low mileage car or a higher mileage one i.e what prolongs the life of the battery - more use or less use what is the worst case scenario - say the hybrid system fails or things like the inverter fail which are expensive can the car still be run on the petrol engine only? i drive a 430 at the moment thanks for your input
  3. S reg mark 4 with 140K - DHP with wood pack - only £750 i think at that price i would'nt care if it has service history or not aslong as mileage is genuine has cambelt sticker on the engine bay http://www.milapautocentre.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-ls-400-4-0-4dr-balby-201509177005401
  4. Saw that on ebay last night, nice car but, as you say, top money, and I didn't much care for the attitude of the dealer on the ebay listing. Don't bother coming to look unless you've got the money in your pocket, don't ask for a price for your part ex, we're not here to give free valuations, that type of thing. I know time wasters are annoying, but they're part of the job. HA HA NOW REDUCED BY £500 might of been cheaper to drop the attitude in the first place
  5. agree the "slowed me down bit" - the ls does promote a sedate relaxed style of driving
  6. http://news.sky.com/story/1553576/man-smashes-mercedes-with-golf-club-in-protest the dealership is now "in negotiations" lol
  7. Hi john in the 8 years i have driven the LS range i have read, contributed and learnt alot about these 400s/430s and i have never come across any type of major fault or gearbox failure in the 400s - the world bulletproof is really true here - stop worrying the problem as you say relates to the 430 and can easily be avoided by either changing the radiator or fitting an additional oil coller as done by atleast 2 members of this forum hope this helps
  8. http://www.wynyardmotorcompany.co.uk/cars/carpage.php?carId=1893 body work looks immaculate but the interior? dirty leather/stitching and scratches all over?
  9. I picked it up on saturday Closer to the £1650 than the £2795. It is a tidy example, Still going through the paperwork. But what I've found so far is. Full service Dec 2014 @113,000 miles (currently on 116,000) Feb 2015, n/s & o/s front upper wishbones replaced. New wiper blades, coil springs. It's covered 5000 miles since Aug 2012 I've got a few bill of sales. Aug 2002 £21,840.from lexus dealer Dec 2004 £10,000. Aug 2010 £2800 wow - thats a big price drop for a dealer - he kept renewing the advert to keep the listing at the top - good buy
  10. do a bit of googling for further info but this problem has been discussed here before. one scenario is is if the car has been driven into say a kerb at speed - this can cause the steering pin to break or something along those lines - lexus have in the past replaced the whole rack to rectify this problem. the second scenario relates to an ecu problem for which lexus have issued a recall for i don't thing its a tracking problem although the problem could potentially be masked by adjusting the tracking
  11. yes the gs430 has the same engine as the ls430 but no air suspension - they are fully loaded beasts and they must go like a rocket
  12. Maybe just find yourself a good Mk3 again ..... or dare I say it, try to but back your last one ! Malc I have tried to make contact several times but no joy, and if I can't have THAT one back I think mk4 would be my choice well its still taxed and motd so still driving around somewhere - did the car go far from you
  13. ....until the motor fails....... Or they corrode from the inside, or the double glazing goes cloudy............hmmm, maybe I'll just make sure mine are properly shut. Rain sensitive wipers, self closing doors, automatic lights.............answers to questions that nobody asked imo, not to mention unreliable and costly to fix. touchwood have not had any of those problems in 3 years of ownership - bar amplifier failure which was £285 to fix - everything else works perfectly inlcuding steering adjust
  14. i seem to have the same problem with my 430 - i usually have to point the nozzle towards the front of the car and pull it out about half inch
  15. if you get stuck i paid someone else to do it for me - i used car audio repairs in hove - they charges £85 inc delivery back
  16. After nearly 3 years of ownership i recently found out that the rear middle headrest has a button on the side which one pushed collapses the headrest to improve visability. also the passenger seat has 2 buttons on the the right side facing the driver to adjust position and backrest angle whilst sitting in the drivers seat - and all those years i never thought to use them often leaning right over to adjust the seat lol
