  1. both of my mark 4s were 98 models so scribe your observation is correct about brian's car having a different immobilisor
  2. that looks mint - detailing indeed does make a difference. true about how you cant get the same rich glossy finish on white or silver. on the other hand silver does hide imperfections and dirt better than darker colours. time now to polish off a couple of those bottles from that well stocked garage lol!
  3. hi it is possible the radio has a code which needs to be entered - have a look in your handbook to see if its written down anywhere.
  4. a member on here "the acre"replaced his radiator and i believe he bought an aftermarket part - try looking up his posts Ref your second question should could look at the colour of your coolant to see if it has changed hope this helps
  5. phil i have never had any problems with any of my lexi (400 and 430) whenever i have had to disconnect and re-connect the battery.
  6. sounds like a simple problem - the battery get it checked - if its weak or failing replace it - that should sort it.
  7. from what i have read the lexus warranty which is £950 for 2 years covers almost everything on the car. the GS450H (upto 08) have some common problems such as: 1) Battery cell failure 2) Leaking Shocks 3) Seizing calipers 4) Transmission pump failure ( higher the mileage - the more the risk) 5) Failing headlight ballasts - headlight goes off after a while These are the things to look out for when buying as can be expensive to fix
  8. I bought some michelin stealth for about £30 - they lasted about 8 months before starting judder very badly - i decided to go for cheapos this time - set of flat wipers from ap performance - £4 a pair - so far very very good (2 months) and to be honest if they last a year i wont be to fussed
  9. this car has been advertised on and off several times over the last six months. i have a feeling this is not the original owner because the original owner (IIRC) wrote a very good description documenting how he had looked after the car spending alot of money on it (its had a full respray) and used it mainly for shows. Nevertheless its a very good example and certainly at that price a steal - looked at the drivers seat might god it looks NEW !
  10. I am not expert on these things nore have i had the need to read Ecu ever since driving the LS however i have heard that alot the members talk about techstream. I'm sure someone abit more knowledgeable will be along shortly.
  11. my advice is dont rush into things - if possible drive the LS for a while and see how it goes. - Don't make any decisions straight away. P.S if you do decide to sell - take some time to make is shine - take some good pictures and you wont lose any money on it.
  12. hi i think its was 2002 however i might be wrong. the 430 sat nav is more than adequate to take you from town to town - I have used mine in birmingham, bradford and yorkshire and it took me to my destination without a hitch.
  13. hi These cars have alot of gadgets and some weak points aswell so aslong as you take your time and check everything you should be fine - infact the more you ask over the phone the better. the cambelt should be changed every 100k miles or 10 years - whichever is earlier No it doesnt have postcode destination. i do mostly local runs and get 20 - the VVti is better but marginal - im not sure whether you will notice an actual difference in real life - if your budget allow try to go for a facelift one. its funny how i have LS owners like the same cars - Rover 75 - Mazda Mx5 and Toyota camry to name a few.
  14. Here are some of things u should check: Make sure it has a full or at least a good service history which includes the cambelt change. On driving the ride should be quite smooth comfortable with no noises or creaks from the suspension. Gearbox changes should not be noticeable Upon inserting key the steering should tilt and retract - test and make sure the mechanism works as motors are very expensive Braking should be quite and smooth - if you get a groaning noise when coming to stop that’s a sign of cheap aftermarket brake pads - they will need replacing. Check colour of gearbox oil it should be red with no smell of burning. Check all electrics work Check the Sat Nav works - there have been reports of some failures Check the sound system properly to ensure no blown door speakers or woofer Check the air suspension works - when the switch is flicked the car should rise about at inch slowly - and the compressor does not make any noises Check the bonnet struts hold the bonnet Check the car has the correct Toyota red coolant Check for rust around the doors near the plastic trim and around the boot area Check rear quarter panel glass for cloudiness - this indicates the glazing has failed Ask if the cabin filter has ever been changed - these are often over looked. Check the bonnet pull works as it should - some of them fail Check toolkit is present Make sure there are no warning lights lit in the dash Ideally you want 3 remote keys Check the car has a matching set of tyres and wether they are branded or not - this should give an indication wether the car has been pampered or neglected Before driving off make sure you have the say nav code and locking wheel nut key. Hope this helps.
  15. ah yes - thats a very decent example - same colour as my mark 4 - very nice - hope you get it soon
  16. yes easily possible - im sure steve said his celsior battery lasted a long time
  17. hi im not sure i fully understand what you are saying but if you mean ACC PCS - Adaptive Cruise Control - Pre-Crash Crash System - this was a factory option only on the SEL spec only - its not something you can retrofit.
  18. looks nice clean and straight but on the flip side due to being standing there might be hidden problems not he best of advert either - no mention of service history apart from the scrunched up MOT certificate
  19. its on ebay again ! - now in london with an asking price of £7K !!!! so this car has appreciated 3K in 3 months - wow
  20. i sold my mark 4 over 3 years ago - blue with grey leather and wood pack - 80k on the clock for £2k (originally bought for £2750 2 years prior) just checked and it still has not got to 100k yet. just goes to show how values have appreciated over the years
  21. hi if you look at the posts by acre - he done the radiator change and put some pictures up - according to him the rust actually starts at the transmission pipe inlets which are inside the radiator and not really visible so cannot tell from the outside. There is some speculation that using Non - Genuine coolant causes this - however there is no definitive proof. Ref the key - the master key should have 3 buttons on it - lock unlock and boot release - provided you have that you should be able to get another from the dealer for around £180 including programming the smart functions.
