yes i saw it on ebay - Nice unique car - Keep hold of it! These are amazing cars - i washed mine the other day after a while and its amazing how the paintwork just gleams - the build and material quality its absolutley outstanding - even after 13 years the dash/buttons do not shown any signs of wear or fading - you will never get that with modern cars no matter what - if you want the same craftsmanship you have to go back in time!

My brother won't even take his to the garage for and mot or service - I have to do that for him - the most he has done is pump up the tyre lol. Rebecca if you are keeping the car and stamps are not important then I would suggest using a local garage - that would be the most ocst effective method and to be honest the petrol engine done go wrong or require much changing. I have an LS430 and it gets an engine oil change every year, brake fluid every 2 years and plugs when required - all at an independant hope this helps -
Hi Jamie - Hybrid battery solutions would of refurbed the battery cells and associated parts for the £800 - The Lexus dealer will only change the whole battery - just thought you should know the difference - Generally it is not the whole battery which fails - it is individual cells and I believe Richard checks each cells and replaces or refurbs as required. I think the key points here are if you are buying private then get Lexus to inspect and get the warranty. The shock absorbers can be faulty even if a leak is not evident hope this helps

I think keith has a valid point - on some new vehicles i have noticed the DRL either switches off or goes dim when the indicator is used - erhaps the reason behind this is the issue raised by your mechanic

Need to change battery - can't open bonnet

If you have to resort to breaking glass why not go through the rear quarter glass? - that way you can do a temporary repair and still drive the car. -

I was going to email to see the condition of the drivers seat but decided against it!

Hi Pete welcome back - you were a member when i joined the lexus fold 9 years ago and i remember your posts especially the LPG install and gearknob re-leathering one lol! I also remember your Yaris project! Im currently on my 4th LS (430) I havent come across any common problems with the 460 apart from: 1) Failing heated seat relays 2) Failed steering racks 3) Failed shock absorbers Even these problems are very limited. My advice is if you are going for a higher mileage one then get an independant inspection done. There is one on AT at the moment which has had all 4 shock absorbers replaced! The engine and transmission are bullet proof - I am hoping to upgrade one day! I would say go and buy one for 2 reasons - one - you are great forum contributor and two I need a good through comparison review between the 430 and 460 and i know you are man for the job! Good Luck!

I think the shock absorber issue is so well know that they should replace without quibble - I was thinking about trying the 450h but i have had an utterly reliable ls430 for the last 4 years so have decided to hold out for either a 460 or 600h - part of the reason was the common issues with the 450h such as shocks

What does the manufacturers paperwork say? I know "Ring" make some DRLs which they clearly state as road legal aslong as you follow the fitting instructions.

Both look good cars - the green one looks familiar but cannot say where i saw it - the MOT histry brings upa lot of advisories - the silver one looks tempting - even if you wanted to re-do the cambelt - a lexus dealer will charge £295 to do the belt only - you will obviously get a better feel once you meet the seller. These are both Mark 4 cars - here are some things to look out for: Make sure it has a full or at least a good service history which includes the cambelt change. On driving the ride should be quite smooth comfortable with no noises or creaks from the suspension. Gearbox changes should not be noticeable Upon inserting key the steering should tilt and retract - test and make sure the mechanism works When starting from cold the starter should engage and start the engine immediately - if there is clicking sound then be prepared to have the starter or starter contacts replaced - the is a big job - takes about 7 hours therefore costs a lot and finding a competent mechanic who has the knowledge to properly dismantle and reassemble everything may not be as easy as you think. Braking should be quite and smooth - if you get a groaning noise when coming to stop that’s a sign of cheap aftermarket brake pads - they will need replacing. Check colour of gearbox oil it should be red with no smell of burning. Check all electrics work Check the temperature display backlight works - these fail and require a lot of dismantling to replace. Check the bonnet struts hold the bonnet Check there is no water or dampness in the spare wheel well - if yes then boot seal needs replacing or sealing Check the car has the correct Toyota red coolant Ask if the cabin filter has ever been changed - these are often over looked. Check toolkit is present Check for exhaust blow - the Y pipe is prone to leaking Make sure there are no warning lights lit in the dash Ideally you want 2 remote and one grey key Check the car has a matching set of tyres and wether they are branded or not - this should give an indication wether the car has been pampered or neglected Check the headlamp levelling mechanism still works - these often fail Before driving off make sure you have the say nav code and locking wheel nut key. Hope this helps

very nice - I also read here is going to be a new LS in 2018

hi Dean - as mentioned above buying from the dealer has paid dividends for you - another member is having to put up a real fight to get one leaking shock absorber changed - there is a lenghty thread on here. The dashboard creaking is also a common 450h complaint - some members have had some success by pushing wadding down the side - i would advise bringing this up with the dealer - it has nothing to do with the shock absorbers. all the best

I cannot believe this saga - this is p*** t*ke This is common widely know problem and should of been sorted from the word go. Another member (deanflyer) just bought a 56 plate (see thread Potential owner - any advice) and he has just had 2 replaced under warranty Hats off to john for keeping his cool and perservering - hope you get it sorted mate - eventually!
