I need my alloys refurbishing but have 2 problems: 1) There is no one offering the service locally and I cannot have the car off the road. 2) I am wary of getting the wrong look - I have seen some alloys done badly which have a very grey look which I dont like at all. These ones have the perfect look and appear to have been done properly - just the way Lexus has them out of the factory. Any opinions? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Set-of-4-Lexus-LS430-facelift-alloy-wheels-42611-50410-42611-50460-sterling-18/263747008611?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D3e25440b01144fde9d08a712f9976b4f%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D292140916676%26itm%3D263747008611&_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042

430 or 460?
cruisermark replied to The-Acre's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Phil I think this is very much a personal decision especially for us lexus enthusiasts - some of the members love their 460s whilst some (Pete) did not like it - I think a few extended test drives are in order. -
Hi Derek They dont do LS430 18 inch wheels. Im in the same boat but there is nobody locally doing this so a bit stuck

LS430 transmission failure - total fluid loss

Here is a link to phils post when he replaced his - he bought it from Euro Car Parts - He also mentions the slight mod required - perhaps your garage could take a look -
I have copied and posted and earlier post of mine - sorry if i have repeated some things mentioned above. Here are some of things u should check: Make sure it has a full or at least a good service history On driving the ride should be quite smooth comfortable with no noises or creaks from the suspension. Gearbox changes should not be noticeable Upon inserting key the steering should tilt and retract - test and make sure the mechanism works as motors are very expensive Check the Keyless entry works - sometimes its a bit hit and miss especially on the earlier models Braking should be quite and smooth - if you get a groaning noise when coming to stop that’s a sign of cheap aftermarket brake pads - they will need replacing. Check colour of gearbox oil it should be red with no smell of burning. Check all electrics work Check the Sat Nav works - there have been reports of some screen failures Check the sound system properly to ensure no blown door speakers or woofer Check the air suspension works - when the switch is flicked the car should rise about at inch slowly - and the compressor does not make any noises Check the bonnet struts hold the bonnet and the if the boot lids seems heavy to lift then the boot struts are gone. Check the car has the correct Toyota red coolant Check for rust around the doors near the plastic trim and around the boot area Check rear quarter panel glass for cloudiness - this indicates the glazing has failed Ask if the cabin filter has ever been changed - these are often over looked. Check the bonnet pull works as it should - some of them fail Check the exhaust back boxes for rot Check the rear air con works - often the pipes corrode and it stops working. Check toolkit is present Make sure there are no warning lights lit in the dash Ideally you want 3 remote keys Check the car has a matching set of tyres and wether they are branded or not - this should give an indication wether the car has been pampered or neglected Before driving off make sure you have the say nav code and locking wheel nut key.

gs450h, Rounded/seized nut on sway bar link, help!
cruisermark replied to carnut1980's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Have you checked the universal joint on the steering shaft? - on the 430 you can see the joint just below the pedals? -
James the GS450 is a unique and amazing machine due to its CVT gearbox and Hybrid batteries which produce phenominal accelaration. However at thet mileage and age you will need to budget for some repairs - some of these can be expected - others are common to this marque such as: 1) Hybrid battery failures - Normally one or two cells start to break causing hybrid light to illuminate - repairs start at around £700 2) Seized Calipers 3) Possible gearbox oil pump failure - lexus will happily sell you another gearbox - if you are good with spanners and fancy getting underneath the car then there is a fix which doesnt cost alot 4) Creaky dash - members have had some success with pushing felt down the sides of the dash 5) Rust on leading edge of the bonnet 6) Headlight bulb failures - can be fixed cheapily 7) Exhaust back boxes tend to rust and fall off - if you want the same silent setup you need to goto lexus or find a good exhaust place or buy some from poland through ebay. 😎 Alloys need refurbing at this age - this can be tricky becuase you need to remove the chrome inserts which require a bit of patience and brute force - break these and you will need to go back to lexus. 9) TPMS valves also give trouble - good aftermarket options are limited. Average mpg differs due to length of journeys, weather etc - the Hybrid system will play a big part locally but on the motroway run it will mainly be the 3.5l petrol engine doing the work. I have had a LS430 for over 5 years and it has touchwood proved to be very reliable - I have often thought of trying a GS450H but coudnt really come up with a good enough reason. I just wanted to experience the acceleration but given most of my driving is localish runs and now im used to driving in a relaxed sedate style i dont think there is much point. Hope this gives some insight!

Phil aka "Acre" bought and replaced his radiator - might be worth looking up his posts. -
LS430 air suspension stuck at max height
cruisermark replied to Chris CPT's topic in Brakes & Suspension
The ride height sensors are prone to water ingress - when this happens they short circuit and malfunction - this is what appears to have happened here - I havent come across a fix for this apart from replacing them at the main dealers. -
