  2. cold weather ? highlights problems with MAF,s or coil,s , you can fill up with quality fuel but more than likely fuel not the issue ? the computer on board will adjust to a certain level to accommodate different fuel quality , what miles have the plugs covered ?
  3. ps, , don,t expect the sportX to be any use in the snow , , the 1st whiff & its sideways only , , got a set of 16,s on mine with winter tyres now after struggling to make it 50 yards in 30mm , , , , ,just need some snow to test it out
  4. my 1st lexus & has exceeded expectation , ,got my 02 with 54k on 4 months ago & i like its quirky looks & the economy from the 3.0 auto isn't as bad as i expected , ,mid 20,s around town , ,30+ motorway , ,all the extras you would expect from a new merc/audi or bmw yet standard 10 yrs ago ! had a brake caliper replaced on mine this week , ,£90 so not crazy parts either , , good luck with your search
  5. a £500 touch then ? should be good for a while after though , have you priced the brake stuff at http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-parts ? always keen prices
  6. had the front passenger caliper sticking on & ordered one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-IS200-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPER-1999-2005-30-00-CASH-BACK-/250959213911?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a6e55b557#ht_1005wt_1135 delivered prompt & looking every bit like a brand new part , my garage man couldn't source one for less than £145 (that was price to him) so he was also pretty impressed , £20 for his labour & the old caliper heading back to the supplier for £30 refund , all in all not that big a hit to the wallet for a new caliper fitted , £90 ish anyone with similar problem look no further for the solution
  7. well spotted, , IMO most used lexus alloys are well below standard paint finish & generally look shabby well before other manufacturers , lexus should address this known problem
  8. yeah should fit , few mm bigger on the bore ? http://www.alloyguide.com/Lexus.php i have a set of lexus 18,s now surplus , recent tyres & refurb done , pm me if interested in pics
  9. good results , i was pretty impressed with the paintwork on my 2002 sportX , used standard fayre 5eur french supermarket wax ,no claying shines like a factory fresh car , not a spot of rust , no wonder my in law wants the car eh ? ;)
  10. good stuff . & if that don't work resort to a light circular motion with wire wool or emery paper :duh: seriously , ,the above guys are right , ,ive only ever removed & not replaced , ,i should have read your post to the end :P
  11. this will do exactly what it says http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/500ml-BURNISH-CUT-WAX-PREMIUM-CAR-POLISH-CUT-/300430846743?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item45f312eb17#ht_1145wt_944 i use their "shimmer" carnuba wax & their glass cleaner as well , ,faultless finish, easy to use & not crazy money that the big names are asking 30 mins & your car will come alive happy days
  12. 1)wd40 & credit card to remove the bulk 2) t-cut to remove the smaller bits 3) apply some wax warming with steam from kettle also helps melt the glue
  13. i was told by lexus manchester my IS300 belt change was at 90k ? am now on 54k at 10yrs old ?
  14. 2002/53k/serviced/mot,d/unmarked throughout/ offered it at £2500 with the set of winter tyres & 4 as new bridgestones for summer , im running it till feb/march as the insurance is until mar/30th & don,t fancy the ice/snow in the 6 scary thought RE lexus V8 ? approx 50bhp less & down on torque plus if similar set up to my 3.0 VVTi then needs working hard to get it alive , the BMW just seems raucous & power response is there all the time , had 2 911,s but this 6 is a match + way more comfort & extras , a great all rounder & can't wait to get over the channel in it , how do you remove the speed limiter ?
  15. well guys , confession time , i will shortly be parting company with the 300 sportX , no complaints whatsoever & wouldn't hesitate to have another lexus ,the fit/finish/electrical goodies & creamy engine were a real eyeopener after 18years germanic motors. bought in october as a temporary downsizer from 5 series , circumstances now changed & 2 weeks off work + ££££ in bank mixed with my love of motors & the new year has come in with some thunder once id heard 4.4ltr V8 burbling then blasted up the tarmac it was a done deal , http://cdn.images.pistonheads.com/aimg/3504/3504577-1.jpg & loaded with goodies , £66k new , drove it away for £9500 & insured it on a "future classic" policy for £493 happy new year to all , ps , father in law smitten with the lexus so he wants it ,
  16. think you have a decent chance if you do some footwork , example below , good luck http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/lexus-is-200-sportsatnavsilver/93833865
  17. not good enough i would say , , 5w 30 synthetic is correct for the IS http://www.millersoils-online.co.uk/1_Millers_frame_AUTO_WHICH_ENGINE_OIL.htm
  18. bit of a nuisance but when on main road(ie wobble is in action lol) pull over safe , ,jack up the car & see if the front wheels are free , sounds similar to my sticking caliper , ,sometimes it wobbles until it frees ? mine in therapy tomorrow for it fettling
  19. yea , sure it will help when i pass info to my trusted spannerman ;) where,s best place to get the seal kit ?
  20. thought recent MPG had been declining but put it down to winter temps , anyhow , just been out & pulled into leaf strewn car park , pulling slowly forward to park i noticed a gravel noise under passenger front wheel & sure enough , after jacking car up cannot spin front wheel ,drivers side spins fine IS 300 ? are they the same calipers as the 200 ? car has 53k on , should i try the strip down & lube before purchasing new caliper ? cheers
  21. shocker ! you don,t wana be feeling inadequate or large enough at the gym :eerrrmm: LOL i have a set of new shape lexus 16,s with winter tyres but my 18,s transform the looks of the car whilst ride seems unaffected . best get yourself upgraded
  22. It that fully or part synthetic 5w 30? Also which would you recommend when I do a full oil change? Thanks put your reg in http://www.millersoils-online.co.uk/ unless you have a stamp or invoice for oil/filter within last 6k/ 6 months i would go for the fluid change , 5w/30fully synthetic , usually longlife service schedule but personally i would still change every 12 months or 8k on any of my cars whether petrol or diesel
  23. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-5-LITRES-TOYOTA-5W30-SYNTHETIC-BLEND-MOTOR-OIL-/250949999625?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D360407925669%252B360407925669%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5101515263417524466#ht_1830wt_901 or get a quote from lexus dealer for oil&filter change , ,should do it for £119 ? with a stamp & courtesy car
