  1. Hiya folks Just been looking at the new tyre rating system for tyres to fit my 53 Ls430, 225/55/R17 Look at this page http://www.blackcirc...er/tyres/search On the left side click the Pirelli box, the list is pre-selected for delivery only. Also check the speed rating to any. The thing to look at is the tyre Pirelli P7 Cinturato, it shows 3 of them, now compare the ratings for them all, how can the same tyre be differently priced and have different ratings. The one marked for BMW RF 225/55/17 (97) Y is £189.44 The one marked for Audi 225/55/17 (97) Y is £153.16 The efficiency, wet grip and noise ratings are also different, E-B-71 for the BMW and C-B-71 for the Audi. They are exactly the same tyre, so how come the defference. Am i missing something. Is this another scheme that is flawed you think.
  2. Hiya All the tyres were on when i got the car are are in good condition with lots of tread life. FR Pirelli P7 - FL Dunlop Sport - rears Accelera Noise from FR P7 is loud, have tried it on other wheel location and noise moves with it, wont be using these. Noise from Dunlop is not so bad. Noise from the Accelera is hardly noticeable, but is as loud as the P7 when on the front. Spare is Accelera Will be checking the ratings of the above tyres with the new tyre marking rules to see where they stack up. The overall drive i get is good all round in most conditions, louder running noise with the usual crap road surfaces we have all over the uk. Not had any issues with braking or grip in damp or slippery conditions, although i have not tried an emergency stop with a fully planted brake foot yet, may try it in morning on a quiet bit of road. Chris
  3. I had Falken ZE 912 95v, 225/55/16 tyres all round on my old P reg LS 400. Cost £300 for them inc delivery from here http://www.ebay.co.u...=item256c80bb34 Price has gone up £20 and delivery is now charged i see. Well happy with them, smooth ride, quiet and good traction in both wet and dry, would have took them to my newer LS 430 but they don't fit. Still got 3 of them in the garage on the rims. Chris
  4. I would hold on to my cash on this one, my gut feeling says walk away. Service history is a real key, backs up the mileage and cambelt issue in the book. You see many Ls400's come through Ebay and Auto Trader so good one's come along. Couple of nice 400's on Auto Trader at moment for £1500 and £1590 http://www.autotrade...163gt?logcode=p http://www.autotrade...163gt?logcode=p I bet you could haggle a few quid off as well. That's only my opinion though.
  5. Health and Safety warning, if you wear a tie make sure you tuck it in your shirt before listening to the noise or you may find yourself getting closer to the belt than you would would like. :D I rang Lexus and spoke to one of the mechanics who worked on the car and he does not recall any noises like i describe, but he said it sounds like the belt could be wearing. I like the screwdriver stethoscope idea, will try it. The tie thing is one I won't ever do after seeing a near fatal incident years back when I worked at Raleigh Cycles, although he did lose 2 fingers in the same incident, maybe it was his bad day. I will stick a bit of oil on the pulley later to see if that sorts it, Unsure to the AC as the noise is there with it on or off. I did speak to a local (2minutes walk) mechanic who worked on my old Ls400, he reckons it sounds like the engine belt and will happily replace it for £50 if I supply the belt. I may just do that anyway as the belt is probably from new so won't do any harm. Will let you know.
  6. WOOOO I got my girl back yesterday evening, all sparkling clean and valeted, was so happy me and wifey went out for the evening and enjoyed the drive, and some nice food too, she drove back as i decided to have a pint to celebrate the return of my girl. But i have noticed a minor (i hope) issue, i don't recall hearing it before but i can't be sure as i never got out the car while it ticks over, checked it again this morning and it's still there with a cold started engine. When the car is ticking over, if you get out and stand near the engine you can hear a slight screeching noise like the noise from a worn/loose fanbelt. If you get someone to press the gas pedal the noise does speed up and slow down with rpm. You can't hear it in the car. The noise is not loud but it is noticeable. No one at Lexus has said anything regarding it, i don't know if they noticed it. Is that a likely culprit, and if so is it a home fix that is relatively easy or is it a garage jobby.
  7. For that money you should be able to get a very good early model Ls430 looking at ebay at the moment, dont forget auto trader as a source, thats where i got mine from. I have (under repair, drink and mobile phones thread) a 53 plate 430, 60k miles, all the bells and whistles i need and more, and it has served me extremely well, no complaints at all. The newer model you may just get a lower priced one. As for LPG, it is on my list of things to do when i get the car back, but i think i will be going to Profess Autogas in South Wales.
  8. Well some good news at last, the heap of crap ford mondeo is where it should be, nowhere near my house. The Ls430 is now at Lexus for repairs after the insurance said it is ok to have it fixed, they haven't told me how much though yet. I have a courtesy car, a little IS220, i'm not keen on it but then i have been spoilt with a Ls400 and then a Ls430, although the wife likes it. Police have been in contact and have said baby is doing well with the foster carer, the so called mother is however still on remand after her arrest, she has many other charges against her and this is just one more episode of drunkeness against her as well as shoplifting and drugs abuse. Scares the crap out of me that she had a little baby involved in her life and was more concerned about herself.
  9. Sorry folks been sorting stuff out. Well the Ls430 is not a scrapper iv'e been told by the repair shop. It is now waiting a quote for all the parts needed to repair the damage. And no i had not yet found the free time to get it LPG'd, was planning that for after Xmas was out the way. The courtesy car is a ford modeo, my god it is a piece of automotive scrap, handles like a ***** on a river and has the looks of a screen crushed bug, the noise is awful, what they call a stereo is akin to an old amstrad music box. It rattles like a babies toybox. I could go on but you get my drift. Iv'e spoken to the other car owner involved and her car needs some minor work although she says she's not bothered as it's an old car, but that's her choice i guess. The good news is the baby involved is not hurt and now in care according to the police officer who came to my work earlier today, the woman however is now on remand as she had a warrent for her arrest anyway for a previous list of crimes as the officer called it. The officer wanted some minor information regards the car and the incident which he was well happy with. He has seen the car and says it is not as bad as i feared, it was dark when it happened so i guess i thought it was worse than it actually is, and i was what you could call upset and angry. She has no insurance and her car was not taxed so that could cause some issue.
  10. Well what do you do to a petty minded ***** women who has had a drink and is talking on the phone to her mates whilst driving a car and crashes into the side of your pride and joy lexus. I was soooo close to belting the living daylights out of her i can honestly say, especially when she states it was my fault for being in her way, despite being parked with the footbrake on at a junction waiting to turn right. I smelled the beer on her straight away as did the woman she grazed, so we both rang police, and no way was this going to be a document exchange job. After i calmed down and the police were on the way, we started looking at the damage whilst the drunk idiot was gobbing off at all and sundry and blaming society, we then noticed she had a baby laying on the back seat of her car, lucky for her the police arrived or i think she may have been lynched. She ended up being arrested for failing a breath test, also she decided to hit the officer in the face which resulted in her being grounded quite hard as you could see her gasping for air like a stranded fish. The baby was thankfully ok when ambulance crew checked the little devil over. Anyway, my car possibly could be a write off as she hit it across the door pillar between front and rear passenger side doors, the door skins are damaged and deformed as you would expect them to be, they both open and close but not as easier as they did obviously, but i hope the main pillar is not damaged. I hardly felt anything, just a small jolt, and i don't think the car moved sideways at all, damn built like tanks. How she made it across a lane of oncoming traffic coming at her and only grazing another car was well lucky. Will let you know what happens, am currently waiting for insurance to deliver the like for like courtesy car as they put in the insurance policy, this could be a fun wait.
  11. I don't think its a bad idea at all, helps me a lot as i choose my tyres online and then get a fitter to pop the beggers on. Those that call at a tyre shop will probably go down the route of what is on offer like TigerFish reckons. As for road surfaces, i remember reading somewhere a few years ago that the rougher stuff was to be used on tighter bends and at junctions for extra grip in all weathers and that it was to be of a different colour to other surfaces, and that the smoother surfaces used on the M and A roads. The roads up where i am are like one long sheet of sandpaper of various grades though, good for eating up car tyres, the rough grip is great fun on a motorbike although £400 for 2 tyres is not funny every 5k miles.
  12. Good news that mate Did mine last month, so nice when they give em a good going over and find nothing. Even better when all they can say is nice car.
  13. Problem with not replacing the part is the EML light will stay on and under the new MOT rules 2012 any dashboard warning lights illuminated that relate to the cars safe function whilst driving, automatic fail. This is now strictly adhered to and looking at the labour cost of replacement one can see why any Mot station welcomes these new rules As for the MOT side of things i can agree with, it is not just things that are considered a failure of safe function they fail them on. Mate at work had uprated his lights (2yrs ago, so they have had 2 MOT passes) to make them brighter and him more visible, the road ahead was more visible, but as the parts were of "non standard factory fitted", no canbus error or warning on the dash, the car failed it's MOT, but passed when he replaced the older less efficient lighting. The MOT chap said it was not lights, but the fact the lenses did not have washer / wiper or self leveling device fitted. So before you LS430 goes for MOT check the washers and self leveling of your lights as they will.
  14. Mine work perfect on auto, did last night anyway (i leave them on auto all the time, they do operate once or twice when i start the car in the dry, but after that they dont dry run), i didn't notice a change with the speed of the car though, but they did change speed with the various rain amounts hitting the screen. Having said all that, the driver side blade is making a sqeaking noise when crossing the screen. When you are used to the driving peace and quiet in these cars, that simple sqeak is deafening. Aftermarket part or Lexus part is the question now, the arm on the driver side has that double bar which i think may cause aftermaket ones not to fit, anyone tried any, if so which
  15. They can be very easily nicked, but in the years i have had mine they have not been touched (reaching for some wood to touch). Motorbikers generally don't nick little bits like that, the thieving sort normally take the whole bike. Not tried them on my car yet as the pressures are different for the bike tyres, although i may invest in a pair to see how they go.
  16. Got some of these chaps on my motorcycle, different pressure front and back so have to get the correct units, they show green caps when correctly inflated and change to yellow and red when pressure is lost, also show yellow and red when over inflated. They have worked very well and accurate on several bikes for several years :)
  17. Many thankees. May grab the set of 4 from a mate then now i know they should fit ok, Wife says i should start a wheel shop with the spare ones i have :)
  18. Hiya folks Just a quick question I hope. I have a Ls430 53 plate which has the standard 17inch wheels. Am i correct in thinking the 2nd generation 430 had 18inch wheels. If above question is yes, will a the 18inch wheels directly swap fit my car without any issues. Thanks a bunch Chris
  19. Tivo set to HD record, wife set to go shopping, beer in fridge, perfect result
  20. I think that Ebay may be your friend for these items, never purchased any so cannot vouch for them as to how / if they work.
  21. Hiya Glad to have helped with the shock supplier. With all the sorted you should notice that the ride is smoother and possibly quieter. Good luck
  22. Don't it have a fridge as standard? Have a look on the rear seats, pull the centre console down, is it lurking in the back of there. I think the kitchen sink was for the female only market
  23. Hiya and welcome Any pics of the new lady ?? We are a nosey bunch at heart
  24. Hiya I'm sure the reverse camera was fitted to the newer facelift Ls430 from 04 onwards, maybe yours is a late 03 model. Don't know if you can retrofit one of the camera's. The timing / cam belt i believe should be changed at the 90k miles mark on VVT-i engines, but my word is not gospel on this, just recall reading it somewhere on this forum.
