  1. After 23k on the budget Westlake tyres, have ordered new tyres to be fitted later today. After checking out loads of different brands, decided on Vredestein Ultac Sessanta 225/40/18 92y. They have very good reviews and the tread pattern looks awesome! Has anyone else used these? Will let you know if they are as good as they reckon.

  2. Usually caused by air in the brake system

Check each wheel for leaking brake fluid.

Check brake fluid level is not so low as to allow air into the system.

If not these may be a servo fault, seek professional help!

Thanks Roy, checked for any leaks but all ok and brake fluid level not dropped. Have used car since and no problem at all, i'm thinking possible internal seal fault with the master cylinder, but need it to happen again before stripping it down.

  3. Driving last night and brake pedal went down almost to the floor but when pressed again was at the top again. This was happening on and off without warning, not good! The front calipers were rebuilt a few months ago and car been fine since then, cant see it being a problem there...has anyone had this happen before or has any idea what is causing it??

  4. hi I have and would go near them, tend to be made of a harder compound so don't wear as quick but handling in both dry and wet tends to be compromised,ok for town driving I suppose .

How right you are, seem fine in the dry but as soon as the road gets even a little moisture on it, the car has to be driven VERY carefully. Thing is, I would buy these tyres again as they just dont appear to wear and 4 x new tyres fitted and balanced for £250 is not bad!

  5. When i bought my is300 last year the guy had just bought 4 new "budget" tyres made by Westlake (never heard of them) Thought I would wear them out before getting some "proper ones fitted. Thing is, now covered almost 20k on them and they still look like new, no uneven wear and even the tread still looks new, what the hell are they made of, plastic?? Anyone else got these tyres? (225's)

  6. well I wouldn't say the factory grease is up to much, or they don't put enough in, because every Toyota/Lexus suffers from this, water gets in and the sliding pin corrodes.

You need something that doesn't get thin and run out when hot, offers lubrication (i.e. not copper slip), and doesn't harm the rubber boots. Red rubber grease is a good choice for both this application and around the piston.

    Would silicon grease suffice?

  7. I agree with Matt. How old is your car and those tyres. Don't want to be running round on 10 year old tyres!

Good news about the MOT :)

    I have mine Monday morning.

10 years old is nothing!! The tyres on my Lotus are original GoodYear NCT1 which have been on there for 23 years! Still look like new although the rears haven't got much tread left now but unable to buy the correct size/rating tyres for the rears anymore. Dont suppose any of you guys have any 235/60/VR15 tyres hanging around??

  8. Jesus give it a rest.... If you want smooth, buy a GS or better yet an LS. I'm only contemplating a 300 for the 'box, this wasn't supposed to be a "mines better than yours thread"

C'mon Matt. a little bit of fun banter never hurt anyone! if you want smooth.....drink a pint of John Smiths!! (prefer a Speckled Hen myself though )

  9. No one is getting mad here Dinho and no one says the IS200 is not or does not have the right to be a smooth operator its a Lexus. what Colin, Panya, Lexus22 and myself are saying is, the 300 is a step up from the 200. it did cost slightly more than the 200 when brand new so the extra smoothness and drive feel reflected in the higher cost price when new. as Lexus22 asked have you actually driven an IS300 before? if not drive one to get the feel both in D mode and M PWR modes feel free to play around with the gear shifts on the steering wheel and let us know your findings on how it drives in both modes and also after you got back into the IS200 and drove off.. try this for us Dinho..

    Absolutely spot on John!

  10. nice pics, great looking IS. been meaning to paint my calipers for ages now! no excuse now were already nearly June lol

BTW im not saying they are, but if those dust caps are cheap just be careful, i had some on my last car and totally ceezed on there, couldnt even cut them off, had to get new valves

Mate yer right! Bought nice alloy set from Halfords which looked great but all seized on the valves, make sure you put them on with a tad of copper slip or silicon grease.

  11. My first Lexus was a is200 sport. I really tried hard to like it but found it lacked the smoothness and performance that I was expecting from a Lexus. Sold it and bought a 2004 is300 which drives like a completely different car. Engine is so smooth and quite and auto box like silk. yes the fuel consumption is worse around town but better on a motorway run. Car is happy to be driven with "flat cap and pipe and slippers" but is an animal when kicked, leaves reps in BM's for dust.

I looked long and hard for my one because it had to have every factory option fitted including full Areo kit and wheels, and be low mileage and be in excellent condition with full history, they are out there but be very picky and be prepared to travel a few hundred miles to view, you wont regret it!
