  1. guess the only way to find out is to get my car on a dyno and also on a track day against these cars have a mate film it then post it for every one here to see! you guys are missing the point here definately not saying i have the fastest car on the planet all am saying is it holds its own with the BIG boys.. any one lives near bedforshire who knows where i can attend a track day and have my car dynoed?
  2. a bit strange why all the negative comments are coming from IS200 drivers no disrespect guys but the 300 is a totally different car engine wise and the 1G-FE in the 200 cannot be compared performance wise even if you supercharge the 200 engine becuase it wasnt built for that. the gearbox alone is an A650E which is the same used in LS/GS430 and those cars have over 400NM of torque and the box can handle upto 325 rear wheel horse power so trust me guys after 70mph this engine and gearbox doesnt stop pulling because 210bhp and 288NM in the IS300 is nothing for it so it maxes out top speed quickly and easily. shame not a lot of people drive the 300 that have actually raced in one to back me up! Please take the time to school yourselfs on a 2JZ.
  3. what i meant to say was I drive an IS300 powered by one of the best inline six cylinder engines in the world and you dont! hope this clears things up between us.
  4. point is 2JZ-GE engines produce more power and torque than stated and am basing this on other cars which have challenged me and on paper have bigger powerful engines but in reality could not keep up when it mattered with all the hype about thier performance!
  5. drive a 2JZ-GE powered car and you will see what I am talking about! even without a turbo aiding the engine.
  6. see how the lambo opens up 2-3 car lenghts based on 0-60 design but past that thats when 2JZ-GE's come alive.
  7. I rest my case! this is a 2JZ-GE engine forcing more air into its cylinders with the aid of a turbo charger!
  8. wasnt smoking anything and i can tell when another driver on the road wants to give a challenge and when they are just cruising based on the agressiveness of thier driving i.e thier speed and how they take the corners and the Porsche driver was not cruising ! my guess will be German cars are designed and geared for 0-60 times just to sell thier cars cus this Porsche opened bout 2 car lenghts when we started off from about 30mph but ounce we got past 70 he was pulling but not fast enough. for some strange reason this engine under the hood of the is300 feels like a turbo after 70-80mph although i dont feel a kick you could hear the intake sucking in huge amount of air with help of VVT-i and with regards to the 2JZ-GE engine in IS300 every tuner knows you can gain 1000bhp if you can force a lot of air into the cylinders without changing cams, head etc. the 1G-FE engine in the IS200 is more for economy with an economy head and cams! Any toyota/Lexus engine which ends with GE has a performance yamaha built head and sports cams. 4A-GE 20valve found in Corrolla GT /MR2 3S-GE 16Valve found in Altezza 1JZ-GE found in Supra/Soarrer 2JZ-GE found in IS300/Supra/Aristo 2JZ-GTE found in Supra/Aristo 2ZZ-GE found in 1.8 Celica 190/Lotus Elise So as you can see all these Sports Toyota cars are/were powered by engines ending with GE codes cus they are specially built and tuned by Yamaha.
  9. guys you wouldnt believe this and the driver couldnt beleive it either ! took on a Porche Carrera 4S yesterday and it wasnt a granny driving it either! yes you read it right a Porche Carrera 4S cus i was behind so saw what he was driving and guess who came out on top? the car with big L at the back! we had a rolling start from about 30mph pulling out of a roundabout all the way into the 3 digits. I tell you what Lexus is a bad ***** car cus i kept up till about 70mph then the 2JZ-GE burts into life past that. After 70 the porche felt like a sitting duck on the road and overtook with ease this was at two seperate roundabouts so yes this guy wanted to show me who the 'boss' was and he had his foot down. A Carrera 4S is a 3.8litre engine has 350bhp and 400NM of torque so am still baffled as to why the IS300 in ECT-PWR mode is so fast! the engine is completly standard with no modifications i.e. no Turbo so either Lexus delibrately puts down the real power figure of this car or they have got the gearing so perferct it doesnt need extra horses to put power down to the tarmac effectively! I have only changed my spark plugs recently, also using Castrol Magnatec 5W30 and running Esso 97 RON fuel! if that counts as modification I dont know but this car is fast even without a Turbo!which makes me wonder what the Turbo'd version can do.. the look on the Porche drivers face was dis believe am guessing he mite be trading that car in for an ISF.....
  10. thanks fjcfarrar will have a new one fitted at Halfords this afternoon...
  11. sorry forgot to mention mine is IS300 i suppose they all share the same radio/cd player as they look the same or are they different backend?
  12. Hey guys will be changing my car battery soon which will prompt for a radio code ounce a new battery is fitted.I do not have the owners manual which includes the radio code. Any ideas where i can get the code for my car before i have the car battery changed? was able to get codes online for my previous vehicles when they had battery replacements but cant remeber the name of the website. any ideas of websites that has Lexus radio codes or suggestions will be helpful...

  14. I think when it comes to these high end performance cars you let your heart rule your head. yes they are expensive to run but not everyone drives an ISF or GTR so you will be driving something special on the road and these cars can out accelerate and handle almost 95% of cars on the road so again you will be driving something special . most of these cars tend to have one owner from new and dont tend to exchange hands often so so long as you can source one with a low mileage and has a full Lexus service history there will be hardly anything to go wrong out of the ordinary! for peace of mind you can invest in having all fluids changed prior to buying i.e transmission, engine oil, diff, coolant , brake fluid as those are the vital things which runs a car. the things like brake pads, disk and tires depend on how the car is driven so if its used for track days ocassionaly or driven hard every time then those parts will wear out quicky but on normal use and the ounce a while fun on the roads! tires, pads and disks should last 20 - 30K as Lexus parts last long and are quality. so if tires, pads and disks are already in good condition before you buy the car you will be surprised they will not needs replacing for about 2-3 years thats if you dont use it for track days or drive hard all the time. so in effect only things which will need drain and refill are just the fluids and if you can keep these changed when they due and afford insurance , tax and fuel you can def own one. but as i mentioned earlier you let your heart rule your head when it comes to these performance cars . will def get one if i can afford it or yet still an LFA if my lottery numbers show up
  15. am guessing there are big ones at 60K or 100K but thats for cambelt and drive belts change! dont know if the 5.0litre engine is driven by belt or chain but if its chain driven then the only belts which will need changing are the drive belts and fluids as the big one i.e transmision fluid, engine coolant, spark plugs, pollen filter as brake and differential fluids are usually changed every 20k. but again not sure if its the same on ISF's so Tango mite be the best person to answer this as he owns one.
  16. worth checking again as i did a comparison before i got mine and it was about £100 difference! mite be a lot for some people but i thought what the heck just paid and forgot about it :winky: also depends what you have been driving previusly as I came from a 2.5 V6 ford cougar so i like something with a bit more oomph and the 200 just felt a bit under powered coming from a 2.5 V6 so just went with the 300. they are the same on tax aswell as thier emisions are similar so if power is not your thing then 200 will do the job nicely mate but if you want a bit more then 300 does it best . i will say drive both and then you can decide if 200 meets your needs compared to 300.
  17. mpg wise there is not much difference between an IS200 and IS300 so if you want somethig with a bit more oomph go the the IS300 as that comes automatic and more relaxed driving due to the engine having more tourque. IS200 auto only has 4 speed and shifts good or if you enjoy changing gears for more engaging drive then go for the manual but IS200s lack torque low down but are more lively past 4600rpm. I personally wanted an automatic after driving manuals in all my previous cars but the 200's 4 speed kinds put me off so just went for the bigger bro 300 which has 5 speed more power more torque but similar mpg. chice is yours really if you want a more engaging drive then go manual but for auto just upgrade to IS300.
  18. though i dont own an F at the moment! most modern engines are 8 to 10,000 miles for minor service (12 months) and 20 - 22,000 miles for major (24 months) with maybe the the 6 month oil service in between depending on how hard the car is driven. lexus do the essential care service for vehicles which are out of warranty i.e. cars over 3 - 5 years old and although the ISF is not listed should be any more than £190 for minor and £390 for major but worth giving them a ring for a quote. or alternatively use one of the Lexus independent garages like Toyotec/ Jem Lexus or ABM if you just need a quick oil filter change. but they all based in/near London http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/lexuscare/service-your-lexus/essential-care-service-plans.aspx
  19. Just had mine done today. picked up 8L castrol magnatec 5w 30 for £17.50 each from halfords, picked up a Mikayo oil filter from Euro carparts but techniciaon told me Blue print filters are the best as the have a sealant grease around the plastic bit ontop to prevent leakage so went with his advice and returned the Mikayo filter although its made in Japan. car running smooth with Castrol though.
  20. thanks Ghosty will pick a couple up tomorrow cant go wrong for that price
  21. yes from what i know IS300's and GS430's come with hid's standard from factory. my IS300 does
  22. oh well if it doesnt feel right hold on to your money till one comes along! PS. I have seen a few blue IS300's in good condition on autotrader might worth a quick look ..
  23. guess what tax band from entry level IS200 all the way to flag ship model LS430 is £143 for 6 months and £260 for 12 months thats for all Lexus's registered from 2000-2004 I think. the new road tax prices started from ones registered from 05 onwards so doesnt really matther if you drive a 2.0, 3.0 or 4.3 litre engine they will be the same tax price.
  24. oh for the mileage and year on full service history depending if its private or dealer i would guess anything between £2800 - £3500 maybe £4000 as yours has more toys like sat nav , body kit etc but try and haggle to get it at a price you are happy with.
  25. no problems mate so long as you have checked v5 form and chasis number matches v5 number checked on DVLA website against past mileage on MOT and its HPI clear you have nothing to worry about. whiles the bonnet is up dont forget to check the drive belt condition and at 45k it would nt due a cambelt change until 60k although you can stretch it to 100k if you know how to inspect the belt by taking the cam cover off also check coolant level to make sure its on max if not top up. during your drive listen for suspension noise when you go over bumps and also brake squeks when braking! as an IS300 owner am surprised the 300 model didnt really take off in UK compared to the IS200 as there is no difference in MPG due to the fact that the 2JZ-GE engine in the 300 has more torque low down so the engine doesnt need revving to get it to go as compered to the 200 maximum torque of almost 300NM comes as low as 3800RPM so driving is more relaxed and the autobox is a gem. I get 20 -24 MPG in town but the book states 18 mpg so as you can see it is not soo bad as people think! and when you want to have some fun in ECT-PWR mode boy it really goes and shifts like its got more than 5 gear ratios. if all looks good when you go check it again buy it and enjoy it if even for 6 months mate
