Hi Walter, to answer a few of your questions.. Eurocar parts will stock most of parts you will need for servicing. eBay also has some good sellers for parts and tyres.

in terms of playing DVD my previous 2.4 Accord could play DVD's but i haven't tried it in the GS yet but i see no reason why it wouldn't play. worth you just testing it out if you have a DVD disc.

recommended Oil is fully synthetic 5W-30 any fully synthetic which has API-SN, SL, ACEA A3,B3 or C3 , A5 will do so long as its fully synthetic 5W-30 in terms of brand Castrol, Mobil, Shell, Petronas are all good brands which i prefer. you can pick up 5L Shell 5w-30 on eBay for less than £20 but you need 6.3 litres for a service.

tires pressure i run 37 psi front and 38 rear and rides nice and comfortable. in terms of brands i prefer mid range like Kumho, Falken and Yokohamas as the GS is not a sports car so i don't personally feel the need to go for high performance ones like Pirelli's, Bridgestones and Michelin's but each to their own. infsct i'm currenlty looking at abrand called Landsail LS588 I have been reading some good reviews and are reasonably priced on eBay. https://www.landsailtires.com/tires/ls588/

All in was £245  the transmission fluid service was £130.. and £115 was for brake fluid and rear diff fluid.

so i have had the drain and refill service done last week and so far so good. this also included brake fluids and rear diff fluids change. will probably do it again after 35 - 40k miles.

Yes i did specifically ask for a drain and refill and not a full flush i have drained and refilled all the automatic cars i've owned and put over 50k miles on some without any issues some like the IS300 and 2.4 Accord was driven hard as well and all held up well even at 150k miles the Accord was done twice at every 30k intervals.

thing is there is no transmission oil dip stick available to check/inspect oil condition for MK3 GS300 does yours 450h have a dip stick @Hangie ? not sure why Lexus/Toyota decided not to provide a dip stick from models 2005 upwards makes it a pian to check/inspect oil condition without draining a bit out.. unless some one knows another way of checking without the dip stick?

@The-Acre i think your is stii the same engine as i had in my previous GS430 (3UZ-FE) which had a dip stick to check/inspect oil level and condition

I know but wanted to hear suggestions from owners over 100K running the 'Sealed for Life' transmissions if they have carried out such service or just left alone. will get it booked in..

Hi guys so i now own a MK3 GS300 and covered just over a 100k miles and wondering if i should bother with having the transmission fluid drained and refilled. had these done when i bought both my IS300 and GS430 but i guess most models from 2005 upwards were meant to be sealed transmissions and not needing changing as they are 'Lifetime' but we all know oil does not last forever. would anyone advise having this changed or has any one had theirs changed and still been trouble free or should i just go with Lexus advise and leave it alone?

Well you two can rent a bughatti veyron and attepmt an overtake when there is next to no GAP and come and tell us how succefull that went. you can take it in turns on the drivers seat.

This is the main reason why I am not biased towards one type of drive train layout in cars.. i buy what i like and feel like driving.

Seems there are a lot of Honda fans here 😊... I might go for Jag XJ(questionable reliability though but an itch i have to scratch at some point) or stick With Honda but upgrade to the Legend or another GS

In my 20 years of driving i have not come across such a situation an i have driven in all types of roads across UK including farming areas and have come across slow large trucks..

Big deal!! just wait until you have enough GAP your car can take and go for it.. as i said previously there is still a gap 1000bhp car cannot take due to the road conditions so again NOT power but road conditions dictates an overtake.

As you say its GAP that's the deciding factor. not power. power is useless if GAP is not there/enough..

for an overtake to be made successfully, I put it more down to the speed being travelled by the oncoming vehicle on the opposite side and how close they are . if the speed of the car at the opposite is travelling fast, and quite close with not enough room left on the opposite side than the rate at which one can quickly accelerate to the opposite lane and overtake, it doesn't really matter if you have 1000bhp under the bonnet. an overtake will not be possible.

is more to do with how

1.close the oncoming vehicle is

2. how fast the oncoming vehicle is travelling

3. room available to slot back in

A 1000 bhp vehicle cannot overtake if room is not available so its more the road conditions than the power of your vehicle when it comes to an overtake.

regardless of how one looks at it it's a very fast gearbox... funny how one says it has a 'narrow' power band when there is 350nm flat torque between 1650 to 4500rpm..

I know right.. considering the 8 speed gearbox in IS200T takes 0.2 seconds to downshift a gear. so as per the scenario changing from 8th to 3rd would have taken a whopping 1 second to go through the 5 gears..   thats very exhausting 😄

DC2 had a 190bhp 1.8l with 5 speed gearbox and weighed 1100kg.

DC5 had a 220bhp 2.0l with 6 speed gearbox and weighed about 1250kg IIRC.

 

will put it down to advanced technology. DC2 was just VTEC where as DC5 was iVTEC which has cam phasing on intake couple it with 6 speed and different  gear ratio will yield better torque curve from mid to high rpm even though both had near identical power to weight ratio and identical 0-60 times. and of course things like tyres and suspension tuning plays a role as well.

nice example of who will take the traffic lights 0-60 and who will take a motorway overtake from 50mph

I do recall Saab claiming their  Saab 95 Aero was quicker from 40mph all the way to 90mph than a Porsche 911 Turbo of its time in 2nd to 3rd gear rolling take off and a few tests confirmed it was the case..  but 0 -60 the Saab will not stand a chance.
