  1. as the old saying goes you cannot and i mean cannot shift as quickly no matter how the human tries as smooth, as fast ,as accurate, and as consistent as a good automatic transmission. each man for thier own at the end of the day drove manual cars and wanted something different but transmission is not the main topic of this thread its do with with Motul. so i guess i'll be the first on this forum to try it on my next service and update you guys. am also shocked at people who cannot write computer programs these days :zee: . common sense should tell you not eveyone is a mechanic same as not everyone is a computer programmer.
  2. It really weird because depending on the light it sometimes projects as Black other times as grey. both driver and passenger shows more greyish in mine but the back seats looks black not sure if the factory rear tints makes it look so .
  3. tell that to an ISF or GTR driver for that matter. sshh dont tell anyone but let me school you on the 300!! it has a manumatic (E-shift) and not just automatic as you keep saying.so gives it both manual and automatic but the advantage is not having to clutch down to grab the next gear in manual mode in a nut shell its best of both worlds cus I can drive it like a manual and control the highest gear i want when in performance mood and can flick over for the ecu to work out the shifts when driving in London congestion for a relaxed mood.. cool huh!!
  4. why do something if you can have it done for you! and guess what IS300 can be driven just like a manual but the best part is you wont have to clutch down to grab the next gear how cool is that huh!!
  5. secret is 2JZ ..go on you know you want one
  6. I already know all this so none of your posts are helpful to me and not an amatuer when it comes to cars tho am not a mechanic I know a bit about them! if you read my post again it was about Motul and who had used and what they thought of it. ! oh and I do work hard so wont be breaking a finger nail and coming from a clean no points drivers licence, i would describe my driving as the gentle not looking for trouble kinda guy but puts idiots in thier place when it calls for it. refrain from spamming this thread if you havent got anything productive relating to Motul. check the signature one more time clocked110 on sunday not bad for a 300 huh would love to see your 200 clock the millions..
  7. am not one of those suckers who buy something because of brand name I do my own research into a product before i spend my hard earned cash on it. and I know all 5w-30 oils will meet the industry standard. but the advantage lies in some meeting and exceeding or containing extra additives for Longer drain intervals i.e 10 -15,000 miles before changing ones with a high HTHS(high temperature high shear) or a low HTHS. so even though all 5w-30's will meet industry standards is these smaller things which can differentiate them. e.g. in my old ford Cougar V6, i switched from Mobil 3000 5W-30 to fords own Genuine Formula F 5W30 and my car drunk more fuel and sounded noisier. I went back to Mobil 3000 after 10,000 miles and I couldnt hear my engine after I moved off from the garage stopped at a round about and thought my car had stalled cus it was soo smooth and quiet. so it really depends on the individual i personally will spend £40 on an oil which will last 10,000 miles than £25 on an oil i'll have to replace after 5,000 miles will let you do the math on this one.
  8. would also be worth having a look on gumtree, ebay and autotrader for RX300's matching your cars colour and year. you never know might be on for sale and if you get lucky quietly ring them to hold it for you for viewing as to buy then call the police once you get there..
  9. hopefully wont cost you lots i'll say sort out the misfire first as thats most important and clicking noise could follow later if booked into Lexus they can do a check over of the vehicle aswell and report on things that needs attention but you dont have to do it with them so just mention about the noise aswell and they can diagnose the problem once you know what needs replacing you can just get the parts and head to your mechanic friend.
  10. sorry mate hopefully the polce can recover it am guessing you have already read this? http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring/owningavehicle/changestoyourregistrationcertificate/dg_4022056
  11. misfire in cylinders could either be sparkplugs too old and need replacing or dead ignition coils so start by having new set of Denso iridium plugs fitted see if it cures it if not then ignition coils would be next. but rather than having to second guess why not book it into Lexus so they can diagnose the exact problem then you could buy the parts and have a reliable mechanic fit them..
  12. Transpoter let this M5 v IS300 die out mate!! all i have to do to get IS300 to the level of performance of an M5, RS6 is spend around £5000 on an HKS Turbo kit and presto 350 horses at my rear wheels equating to 420bhp at the crank with less weight advantage . So am not daft to think Motul will make the car faster cus am currently happy with the speed and the way it drives and more over am done with tuning engines as i did that to my previous cars so i leave them standard now. This was more for if anyone had used Motul and how The Toyota engine reacted i.e did it made it more noiser than normall, was the engine drinking too much oil after using it, was the car performing smoothly, was it picking up good etc... so def not about gaining on an M5 a blower will sort that disadvantage out for me. Nothing wrong with my Castrol am just curios and basing this on Motul being the pioneers of developing semi and 100% synthetic oils.
  13. Hi guys..I currently run my car on Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 but thinking of swItching to Motul Eco-nergy 5W-30. Motul has been in the oil industry for almost 160 years and was the first company in the world to develop semi-sythetic oil and first to also develop 100% Synthetic engine Oils. They have partnerships and development relationships with Nissan GTR, Nissan, Suzuki, Yamaha, Subaru, Honda so this tells me they must be good as the Japanese really take a liking to them. has anyone used Motul Oils and how does it perform against premiums like Mobil, Castrol, Shell??
  14. I agree KentIS300 for what it is, IS300 is quiet rapid mainly 3rd, 4th gear. I also came from 99 V6 Cougar my self not that rapid but can surprise a few idiots on the road. I am not going round challenging every poor person on the road but sometimes it has to be done as you get some drivers trying it on by either cutting you or just driving 5 centimetres from your rear bumber and i guess they base this on the car being an IS200 until you take off and see them try to keep up in vain. then slow for them to catch up and they do a double take on the rear badge and see IS300 then they keep the distance. M5 , CL500, GS430 will have the upper hand and am not disputing that fact but they will certainly not disapper from view.
  15. Exedy is a good brand but if your budget can stretch just go for the Original Part. this is from Lexus Birminghams ebay page. cost a bit more but its a genuine part so chances are will last longer and will come with guarantee aswell. http://www.ebay.co.u...4#ht_500wt_1127
  16. Dont worry cus no car will ever get up to normal engine temperature in 5 mins or less. a cars warming up time will vary depending on the weather i.e. will take longer in winter conditions and hotter condtions will be quicker but wont be less than 5 minutes. also on engine start up, oil will have to first circulate through the engine for lubrication before the engine temp starts moving and speed at which oil will flow depends on the type of oil being used and its viscocity. a petrol car normally runs at its optimum mpg during speeds of between 60-70mph mainly motorway in overdrive gear (top gear) which in IS250's case will be 6th so if your daily commute does not involve open road (motorway) driving you will never reach optimum mpg even if you were driving a diesel. on a good day most cars depending on the weather will take about 8 - 10 minutes to warm up which IS250 falls in so yours is not unusual from the norm.
  17. Hi TMundo easy option is sell the car and buy another LS400 or best to book it into Lexus leave it with them to use their high tech gadgets to figure out exactly what the problem is and parts which needs replacing, then go to another Lexus dealer buy the parts and take it to a mechanic who can work on Toyota/ Japanese engines to have the new parts fitted. depending on how much the car over heated they could sometimes take the headgasket with them as well if the car is not cooled enough or turned off immediately after it started smoking so chances are it might be the headgasket. but rather than pump money into it without knowing the exact issue have it towed if possible to Lexus for them to diagnose first and you can weigh the options if its worth fixing and keeping or letting it go for another LS400. Hope you get it sorted.
  18. BMW as an example focuses primarily on engines before handling why? becuase they want to cater for all individuals a 3 series alone has a 318, 320i, 325i, 330i, 335i and the M3. they could have just offered 320i, 330i and the M3 but its all phycological to the buyer because on the road, a 325 and a 330 will be similar in performance same will apply to a 318 and a 320 but what did they do? they kept on increasing the cubic capacity slightly to make 320 driver feel like they have a more powerful car than a 318 driver wihich maybe in performance terms a 320 will win by about a cars length. same applies to 325 and 330 not much of a difference on road performance but makes drivers of 330 feel superior over 325. thats why beemer still has lion share in this market segment. I still wont buy a BMW tho... But Lexus is now learning the trick and offering more sporty agressive designs in thier 2012/2013 releases tho still limited engine choice to buyers in Europe.
  19. Thats all well and good for buyers who prefer GS's that the GS430 will fill in that being roughly 280 bhp. but ISF is just too powerful for 80% of IS buyers in Europe so would have been nice to have a detuned IS350 here to take some share off BMW335i, Audi 3.0TFSI, C Class 350CGI.
  20. 3.5L V-6 engine wouldn't meet with Euro V or VI emission levels, so little point in trying to fit a square peg into the round hole. And it's Lexus Europe who decides what we (the EU) receive. Could you explain what that same engine is doing in the Lotus Evora which is sold in UK?? all Lexus had to do was detune it a bit yes we might loose couple of ponies to those in US/Japan but its still an IS350/GS350 all the same...
  21. not bashing... but who needs a diesel motor after this aye?? am thinking of getting a Gen 3 GS300 at some point too ..
  22. Flavio, I like you man!! we had a debated discussion about using good fuels in these engines and couple of guys were opposing my advice of running good fuel and good oil in them if you want to keep them clean and run for longer. and your comments have nailed it aswell. Lawrence I am not saying your problem was down to using cheap 'Supermarket' fuel but a mechanic who works for Denso carrying out research work showed me fuel from Tesco and Shell which has been left settled for about a month in a lab glass bottle and the fuel from Tesco had all sorts of gunk settled beneath the bottle and one from Shell was clear with no impurities. and I can bet thats part of what causes all these headgasket/Injector rough idling issue people face without knowing. Like you said cars will depreciate like crazy so why care about saving couple of pence by using cheap fuel, oil and worrying about consumption cus come a year or two one would have lost more in depreciation than the exrtra saved on cheap fuel and oil... http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=77777
  23. unfortunatley no car is perfect! tho some manufactures are worser than others and as Lexus owners we can all confirm we have experienced small issues here and there...like you said admire the best bits of the car and live with the not soo good ones. at least we can say our cars dont spend more times in the Garages than on the roads.. Lets give Lexus credit cus this is thier first diesel engine on like Audi, Merc , BMW who are over 20years ahead when it comes to diesel engine technology. at Least we can say the Pros of our cars out weighs the Cons. :hocus-pokus:
  24. I really dont understand Lexus UK sometimes common sense should have told them to offer a smaller hybrid aswell to challenge the smaller engined diesels from Germany like the 2.4 litre 187bhp they have in the Lexus HS250 in US/Japan which can be named GS250h or as Colin said strap a hybrid motor to the existing V6 250 and call it 300h this would have given buyers more options and whilst keeping the GS250 for people who prefer petrol they should have also offered the GS350 with 306 bhp for those who dont want a hybrid GS450h but also dont want the GS250 204bhp' tho powerful will lack torque due to GS weight' . I would have jumped on an IS350 if it was sold in UK still dont know why Lexus UK did not ask for it instead of the problematic IS220d that majority owners dont really want 'no offence 220d drivers'.
