  1. Theres this guy called 'ricky Lexus' based in Birmigham and he only breaks Lexus mainly IS's. will inbox you his number worth having a chat to him and he can def sort you out with a pair for a good price. he will also have all the other parts you after.
  2. replace battey in your remote key and see if it makes a difference. I had the same issue couple of months back went into Toyota dealers £5 and job was done.
  3. these body kits should have come as standard on the IS200/300 Sport versions the looks alone sells..think these models will be a future Jap classic cars. looks mean with the tear drop headlights and bulge bonnet like its got a big V8 under there!!
  4. good to know. as I confirmed sometimes there is no point getting insurance companies involved as the damage was not too severe just a couple of touch ups here and there...bet she was glad to pay cash rather than get her insurance involved cus her premiums would have been more than the £600 she will be paying for your repairs. splash out and go led's after all you not paying for it ...
  5. like the saying goes 'once you go Lexus you cant go back' :winky: . you will keep coming back!! cus regardless of thier age and mileage they will still drive and hold like a Lexus.
  6. hopefully my lottery numbers will drop this week! :D it will be an LFA and a highly and i mean a highly tuned IS300 to silence Buggati drivers for track days and new LS460 for wafting around. and can always get into my NISSAN GTR when i want something different... man can only dream for now heh!!
  7. I must say !What a breath of fresh air :) finally someone giving Lexus some credit without being biased just because its not waering a German badge.
  8. You wont be far from Jem Lexus they based in London so might be worth giving them a quick ring for the 60k service quote or you can also get a quote off thier website for a full service. if your car is over 5 years old getting it serviced by Lexus will not add anymore value to its market price if you come to sell it on but will surely make it appealing to the buyer as they will know it's been taken care of by the seller. as confimed by Steve get a list of what the 60K service involves and chances are it will still work out cheaper if you get an Independent Lexus garage to carry out the Job. http://www.jemlexus.co.uk/index.html http://www.toyotec.co.uk/services.html http://www.albinbmotors.co.uk/
  9. geez £12000 just to make 40bhp will this even be at the crank or at the wheels? might aswell get an IS300 in good condition and spend the £12000 on a complete engine/gearbox overhaul and a Turbo Kit. and you can make more than 600bhp that will scare the life out of any GTR , Ferrari or LFA for that matter.
  10. sounds like IS's are quite expensive in Australia compared to UK? not sure what you wanted to achieve if its the fact that you miss shifting gears or wanted a slightly quicker car?... if its the quickness you want then invest the extra $4000 you would have paid for the manual version into a Turbo or Super charger conversion and this would bump power to over 200bhp and you wont miss shifting gears cus it will be fast for a 2.0 litre even in auto form.
  11. 40mpg on an a 2.0 six cylinder automatic car which weighed almost 1500kg? come on now are you sure it did not have an lpg tank in the boot or was not wearing a d badge after the numbers 520?
  12. That's why people say the gen1 IS's were better engineered than the Gen2's am still waiting to hear my 10 yr old dashboard squeak and creak when driving...mileage is nothing so long as its mechanically sound drives ok and not leaking any fluids. the rest will just be cosmetics due to age. I think Lexus was aiming for 20yr service life with the engines and chassis on these Gen1 IS's but fear they now going down the money grabbing route of Audi, Merc and BMW and not so much on engineering anymore.
  13. either way will use fuel. moving a car using a higher gear in low speeds will labour the engine and ecu will chuck in more fuel to compensate. also running a car in higher revs in lower gears for longer will also chuck in fuel. best way to drive any petrol powered car is always use the right gear for the right speed travelling and shift to next gear around 50% of the rev band which in most cases will be 3000 - 3250rpm whilst keeping a steady right foot. too slow on the accelerator and you will be holding up traffic behind you too fast on the accelerator and you be using a bit more fuel than the car needs to move then start to feather the throttle once the desired speed is reached to keep the moving momentum. all petrol powered cars will not run efficiently unless doing between say 60 -70mph in 5th or 6th gear so if your driving does not involve these speeds you will never reach the 29mpg quoted by Lexus for IS200 hence they have the town driving figure of 20mpg so if you are getting anything closer to this figure in town driving I wouldn't complain but if you are getting 10mpg then either the car needs servicing or you drive at 6000rpm everytime in each gear. things which could also make a car run efficiently or closer to its quoted mpg is using good clean oil and right viscocity, clean air filter, recommended spark plugs and good fuel.
  14. might work out cheaper to convert from auto to manual but chances are it might not run reliably so why dont you just get a manual car as they are going for reasonable prices now on ebay, Autotrader. Lexus mechanical parts for a start are not ford prices..they are very very expensive to buy new unless all the parts above you mentioned are bought second hand and would you want to go through the hassle of buying these second hand without knowing if they are functionig reliably?? only to install them to find out?? would be more hassle than its worth. if you said you wanted to do a Turbo/SuperC'd conversion then fine would be worth every penny but auto to manual I personally will save my self the hassle /headache and just get a manual car already put together by Lexus from the factory. but thats what I would do tho...
  15. That is a nice looking IS same as mine in Silver with the Aero Kit and 18" alloys those ones are rear and i like the beige leather aswell. for £1500 budget you will get some good examples but most of them will need some form of job to be carried out i.e. cambelt service, some wont have full service histroy or tax so I would hold off and source another £1000 to add to that cus the good example ones are from £2000 upwards and they wont need a lot of work done to them. i.e tax, mot, full service etc.. so take your time
  16. This blue and silver one is worth a look. both are based in west midlands and within your budget maybe a little bit more but theres room for negotiating. my IS is silver but for some reason blue ones really do look good when the sun is out and they have been valeted. looks like they have some glitter powder in thier paint work. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201222473851371/sort/default/usedcars/price-from/1000/maximum-age/up_to_10_years_old/body-type/saloon/price-to/3000/model/is/make/lexus/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/page/1/postcode/b185jh/radius/30?logcode=p http://www.autotrade...age/1?logcode=p this black one looks good with FSH and full leather but slightly above budget. if you can stretch it... http://www.autotrade...us/30?logcode=p
  17. Given all that, the IS300 is a really nice car that goes well reliably and for a long time, and is also great to drive - but it is no ball of fire, and further to this, few drivers of true high-performance cars will find themselves drawn to compete with one, so relative performance is tough to verify. you might be right with all your figures above but both myself and Martin can confirm it feels more quicker than the 8.2 quoted and I must say drivers of high performance cars try it on most times! whats the point of them having a performance car if they cannot show it off to other drivers on the road? that was the main reason for driving a performance car.. they might aswell get a micra if they didnt. how many cars of equal power like GTR's, RS6's, M5's, M3's do other drivers of high performance cars bump into on UK roads on daily basis?? so that only leaves us owners of semi-performance cars for them to have a pop at when they get the opportunity...as only a few of them take it to track days anyway.
  18. Seems to be a common perception, but the exhaust system on the second generation IS is NOT manufactured in stainless steel. I did fit a stainless steel Tanabe system to my IS250 SE-L only a few months after the car was new, and I still have the original non stainless steel system stored in my garage. The exhaust tips are polished stainless steel which may lead people to think the entire system is the same. However, my 11 year old IS200 Sport is still running with the original exhaust system after 90K miles so assuming the quality hasn't dropped on the second generation, the exhaust system shouldn't be high on the worry list of a six year old car. In discussion with Tony Bones of WIM he mentioned he wasn't aware of anyone in the tyre and exhaust business that had actually fitted a new exhaust system to a IS200 due to the original rusting out. Thanks for correcting Tango..seems like they really do last a long time even without them being stainless steel! well thats Lexus engineering for you i guess.
  19. on a lexus engine 56k is barely broken in :D ..these engine are normally designed for a minimum of 300K. on a good day IS250 could hit 160mph 'on German Autobhan' so dont worry about performance because its there..my IS3 is 10yrs old with over 110K on the clock and still drives and shifts through gears smoothly and when am in the mood for performance it does not fail me either...if its from a Lexus Dealer you would at least get 6 months warranty based on 'sale of goods act' try to see if you can get them to do an interim service before you pick it up thats if you going with the lexus dealer of course. Good Luck
  20. I think the exhaust systems on the MK2 IS's are stainless steel so expect around 10-15 years of service life my IS3 is 10yrs old and still on its original exhaust, IS250 does not have belts it uses chains so no cambelt service needs doing. start from front and work your way back. first check all round body condition and paint work for any signs of accidet or respray work. pop bonnet open and check engine oil level and condtion if its too low will need instant top up before you even drive off. not sure if you can check other fluids like coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid as i think the IS250 engine bays are sealed lock car and check all 4 doors are locked. unlock car and check all four doors unlock. turn ignition on but dont start the car to see if system is OK without any service/engine mngt lights start car up and it should crank on first try if it hesitats might be starter, battery, or spark plugs needs attension check all electrics from power steering , radio, A/C, power windows etc to make sure all are working. if its an Auto move gear lever from P to L each time waiting for a second to see if the current selected gear shows up on the dash. drive both in town and also on an open road say about 70mph to see if gears all shifts up and down a good 15 - 20mins drive to warm up the engine. ounce the test drive is over leave engine running to see if fan kicks in and goes of and dont be shy to look under the car to see if there are any under body leaks whilts car is running as thats when fluids are all working. pop boot open to see if there is a sparetyre and tyre breakdown service tools. check service history/ mot against DVLA site and alsoi hpi checks and if all is clear and you are happy with the drive before you can start negotiating price. hope this helps
  21. OK it does 0 -62 in 8.2 secs and its a very slow automatic car....but i for one only know the high performance petrol/diesel cars I have wiped the floor with in this IS300 and will leave it at that.
  22. fjcfarrar, youtube timing does not lie at 0:05 martin started from 0mph and was already doing 10mph and was doing 60mph at 0:11 so your comment above is just guessing so are you saying your ISF does 2.4 secs to 60 mph and the speedo error and timing increments pushes it up to 4.6secs as stated by Lexus? we both know it doesnt... youtube clock timing is accurate give or take + or - a thousand of a second depending on when one pauses the video at 60. car times in UK are measered from 0 to 60 mph. and both IS300 and Celica 190 deliver 60mph 2.2 seconds faster than thier stated time and i doubt the ISF does it in 2.4 secs.
  23. Toyota/Lexus lies about performance figures of thier Yamaha built GE engines. this is another stock Celica 190 (2ZZ-GE) clocking 5 secs when the book says 7.2secs.. if you watch he start off at 0:09 and hits 60 at 0:14. I think they intentioanlly do this so bigger engines in thier line up can sell aswell as fooling insurance companies so they dont hike up the premuims. imagine how much an insurance quote would be if they found out the celica 190 hits 60mph in 5 secs dead??
  24. yes i know all cars do over read thier speedos but this test was going by Lexus quote of 8.2 secs and to clock it 2.2 seconds quicker is a lot of time performance wise. so i definately wasnt seeing things when i confirmed i could hang with some high-end performance cars I shouldn't have. and wait until it hits 4th when gear ratio is set at 1.0 ..what a train :D oh and i prefer using lower case letters cant be asked to use CAPS Lock key.
