  1. forgot to mention its a body wrap.. cheaper than a respary!!
  2. have this done if you want a pearl white colour in your new to be IS http://blog.ttints.c...46-pearl-white/ oh.. and skip IS200 and go IS300 if its speed you want or should i say drivability in the 'Torque' department..IS200 is not slow car per say but Lexus made the chasis so good which from what i gather from IS200 owners makes it feel slow but for a 2ltr non aided engine which revs to only 6000rpm 150bhp is good. if you are not used to driving a powerful car you can just start with IS200 for like 6 -12 months and see if it suits you. if you happy with it keep it if not sell and get an IS300 if you still not happy with 210 bhp just boost it.. but if not bothered with power and only want to travel in smooth silky 6 cylinder then IS200 SE will be your best friend..
  3. these engines in stock form are quite powerful even without aid of a turbo or super charger.. 1G-FE in the Japan spec IS200 makes 160bhp from the same 2litre the 2JZ in IS300 was inherently detuned due to EU laws to do with exhaust emissions and and the same engine in the GS300 makes almost 220bhp with almost 300NM(220 lb ft) with no turbo this is quite impressive for an engine built in the very early 90's . if the IS300 had a double exhaust like the GS300 it would have made the same power and torque figures as the GS... or was it a way of Lexus making the GS300 a bit superior over the IS300??
  4. Like they say power is not everything if its not being channelled to the wheels effectively. It depends on how far you want to go tuning wise i.e. 400 - 500+ bhp. but i my self dont have the work space and time for a full blown engine swap and mechanical conversions hence i will start with something which already packs the punch from factory and give it some light tuning. 300 - 320 bhp is all one needs in a car to go from 0-62 in less than 6 seconds and do 165mph if not restricted. and I am sure the Mazda engine can handle that easily.. its high performance Japanese car for a start so it definatley wont handle like a dog and the only Subaru's Imprezas quicker than it is the STI and RB320. If you are building for drag racing then yes 1JZ can handle more power but for a track car its more about handling and reasonable 300bhp channeled to all 4 wheels or the rear wheels. a low powered car with a good driver, good balance and brakes can really do wonders round a track. saying that i would love to boost my 2JZ too ;) but someone on here might be able to point you to the right direction with regards to your project. Good luck mate That is all well and good - but if the OP, like myself and others, really likes their own car, but just wants some more performance, selling it and buying a Mazda isn't the answer. The Mazda is a nice car, but it's not really what I want. I like my IS - but I'd like a bit more performance out of it. Not 400, 500, 600bhp, not a track weapon - just some extra power and torque, with a nice strong, smooth power delivery, that pulls from the bottom of the rev range right to the redline. I do agree with you mate thats why i drive an IS myself with the 2JZ block under the hood waiting to be unleashed with some boost... was only suggesting another motor as it sounds like the OP was taking on a huge project but if he knows what hes doing will definatley be a breeze to do the conversions!!
  5. Thats the disadvantage of having an obviously fast car! no one challenges you on the road which makes it no fun .. if only Lexus hide those four exhaust boxes showing at the back then many will think its just an IS even though they did a good job with the design to make it look simple. but saying that, challengers driving in front wont know its an ISF but those coming from behind you flex thier muscles, drive up close waiting for you to get out of the way, see those four exhausts and that alone kills thier ego which gives no chance for a fun safe race against them...so that limits you to only track days!!

  7. sounds like a big conversion project you taking on there might cost you some ££$$ but would be worth every penny.. would be nice to see pics of the car once its completed. but why dont you save your self the time, hassle and start with this as a platform http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201232481104822/sort/default/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/body-type/saloon/price-from/2000/fuel-type/petrol/transmission/manual/model/mazda6/make/mazda/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/page/1/postcode/lu63hp/radius/200?logcode=p for a start insurance companies dont know a lot about it so its not expensive to insure as an EVO or Subaru STI. 260bhp, 380NM (280 LB ft) of torque at a low 3000rpm , turbo intercooler, direct ingection, direct ignition, variable valve timing, 4 wheel drive machine. a few mods on this with high octane fuel will inject another 40+ BHP to this engine taking it to 300+ BHP and still returns 28mpg like an IS200 when driven sensibly. now thats what i call a sleeper . when am ready to go Turbo and manual car again this will be top on my list..
  8. This tells you every thing you need to know about a Jaguar..nice cars butttt http://www.reliabili...ility/search/80
  9. stand near the boot and keep pressing the boot button on your key for about 3 seconds without taking your thumb off and you should hear it open... took me months to figure this out!! if this does not work replace your key battery with new ones as battery might be weak on the remote.
  10. no probs but why not buy the parts from lexus dealer and have the garage fit them for you and stay there and watch them fit the parts! some garages these days will tell you they will use genuine parts but they dont and use the cheap ones so best to buy them your self and watch them change the parts. if you are having the gearbox oil done no other oil in the market matches Toyota Type T IV oil so nothing else should be used apart from this or your gearbox will cook.
  11. ok but has it had an engine oil(5W-30) and oil filter change? spark plugs changed? (Denso or NGK iridum type), fuel filter changed? if so have these replaced and see if it makes a difference. you would be surprised the way an engine behaves if the wrong oil and spark plugs are used. would also be advisable to have gearbox oil and differential oil drained and refilled and for gearbox oil use only Toyota Type TIV and nothing else you can buy this oil from any toyota dealer. not sure if having a wrong size radiator in a car affects mpg.. maybe someone else on here can shed some light...
  12. wow 9 mpg in town driving is worser than a Bugatti veyron.. have you had the ecu code read for faults?? if not have it read first to see if there a any faults with sensors ect..would recommend having it read by lexus or a reputable garage who can read Lexus ECU's ! if its all clear will advise changing these parts, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, engine oil, fuel filter and use high octane fuel like Shell v power, tesco momentume, BP ultimate ect which has claning additives to clean your whole fule and engine system. would advise going genuine Lexus parts so buy these parts direclty from Lexus and have a trusted garage who is familiar with a Lexus car change them for you so you save on labour rates. 9 mpg average in town is really bad. you meant to be averaging 16mpg in town for a GS430 V8
  13. its very simple but really complex technology to master and Honda and lately Toyota master it best. basically it causes the intake valves to open or push down further this extra pushing down and coming up is called the 'Lift' to allow more oxygen into the cylinders at high revs resulting in more power simply put it its like a turbo but not quite.. it normally activates at 6000 rpm so this high rpm coupled with more air and good tuned exhaust system causes the whole engine to breath better resulting in more power.
  14. only way to get the IS200 to make 200 or more bhp is to get it to rev to between 8.5 to 9,000 RPM but will either need 'valve lift' like the ones on Hondas VTEC or dual VVT-i like the one on RS200 Altezza to inhale and exhaust air quickly at those high rpm's . if there is a reliable ECU on market to extend the rpm to these figures then you can happily hit 197 to 210 bhp at 8500 - 9000 rpms without help from a turbo or supercharger but gear ratios might need adjusting aswell. I read somewhere the 6 speed gearbox in IS200 is the same as the one's in Honda Civic Type R's and the S2000 which makes 240 bhp from the 2 litre but not sure if thier ratios are the same as ones on the IS's tho.. I think Lexus wanted the IS200 to have a blend of smooth luxury drive with sensible performance without being over the top.. I mean they could have used the 1G-GTE which is also a 6 cylinder turbo motor from factory for the IS200 but they didnt...maybe they didnt want to make it a hardcore (ASBO) car due to the Luxury nature of a Lexus..
  15. there are worser ones on autotrader going for that price and yours is in good condition so 3.5 - 4 k should be reasonable. couple of guys on here are looking for IS300's so worth offering it to them first before putting it on the market.
  16. you will have to 'suck it and see'... bhp results really varyings depending on how the engine has been engineered, the engine's cubic capacity, ECU spec, aspiration i.e (N/A, Turbo, Superc'd) etc... but one thing for sure Turbo charged cars really unleash a lot of horse power when induction kit, exhast systems and ECU chipping is done not so much with Naturally Aspirated engines but saying that IS200 does have a good intelligent engine i.e. it uses a high compression ratio, VVT-i, direct ignition and good Denso ECU so an induction kit and sport exhaust systems can free up some horses only way to find out is to fit them and stick the car on a dyno for results. there are only three ways to make good power from an engine. bigger cubic capacity i.e.IS250, IS/GS300 , GS430, IS-F Forced air induction from a small capacity (Turbo, SuperC'd) Supra, Evo, STI Subaru, Mazda MPS, Golf GTI's High revving engines with small torque but torque gets multiplied at the wheel due to gearing. i.e Celica VVTL-i, Altezza RS200, Honda Civic Type R, Integra Type R, S2000
  17. seriously!! has the wife really sat in a GS or opened the boot to have a look?? the car will have enough space for a weekend away unless you move the whole house contents with you when you going for weekends away ... GS300 plus a roof box is your best friend ;)
  18. had a K&N 57i induction kit in my old renualt clio 1.2 (first car) sound was ok but didnt sound as good as Pipercross induction kit i fitted to my old fiesta Zetec S(second car). Piper gives more deeper throaty sound on full acceleration but didnt make the car any quicker as it was only a 1.25 litre... I dont mode my cars these days but am being tempted to drop an A'pexi or Blitz panel filter in my IS3 to increase air flow.. might only gain like 2 bhp but mpg should hopefully improve. will clean my MAF sensor aswell as I heard a clean MAF improves mpg. due to accurate air flow readings. note: never had any problems with both my K&N and pipercross even after i cleaned and reoiled them but i have read stories of failed Mass Air Flow sensors failing after cleaning wich i base this on people over oiling the filters after cleaning so just be aware of this if you opt for a filter which needs oiling. both A'pexi and Blitz are dry filters so do not need oiling and they Japanese hence i mite try one out!! PS. i dont work for K&N this is test of top air filters http://www.mkiv.com/...filters_test/2/
  19. same here!! didnt know an IS300 existed and was looking for a sport/luxury saloon to replace my Nissan Primera 1.8 litre with as i wanted something with a bit more power. looked at IS200's and Ford Cougar 2.5 V6 and ended up going for the Cougar V6 as on paper it was quicker, same mpg as IS200 , generated more torque, and more top end power(170 bhp) compared to IS200's (153 bhp)!! had the cougar for almost 2 years and wanted something more powerful but could not go for IS200 as it wasnt powerful enough for me. and was driving in Birmingham one weekend and a Platinum ice IS caught my eye and looked at the rear badge and saw IS300 and was like hang on a minute!! did Lexus make a 3litre version of the IS?? got home and a quick google and search on auto trader confirmed it and i was like YES because i wanted something which drove and had the specs of German cars but i didnt want a german car as those were too common on the roads and i wanted to stay Jap and also wanted an automatic for a change as all my previous cars have been manual and IS300 fitted it perfectly. kept on looking until a TTE kitted IS300 in Platinum ICE was posted on Autotrader and without hesitation i jumped on it and 9 months on has been a good reliable car its not an IS-F or M3 due to the fact that its not boosted like the Supra(even with the Supra engine under the hood) but it doesnt hung about performance wise :D . what surprises me is IS300 is a really good car but for some reason it didnt really sell in Europe as everyone wanted to be seen in a 330i BMW or Audi A4 3.0 quattro but this makes it good for us cus we get to drive a rare car on the roads and i still catch other drivers checking the car out....
  20. just go by Lexus recomendations on how to properly change an engine oil without deviating the process and you will be fine and you will not run into engine issues!!
  21. these bulbs might only last a couple of months and they go out! I have also heard of some throwing check engine lights once they are fitted but not sure as mine is HID's from factory!! best is to just go HID's and you have a selection of shades of brightness to choose from. they are a bit pricey compared to the link you have above but will last longer and look cool!! i think some do come with 12months warranty aswell worth ringing them for more info.. http://www.hids4u.co.uk/home.php
  22. IS300 (211 bhp) is the cheapest bhp increase you can do..with manumatic gearbox, the car can be driven both like a manual or fully auto and the 2JZ engine is very responsive too and good thing with IS300's engine is you can bump it up to IS-F, M5 beating performance when you boost it! as it hides a detuned Toyota Supra (godzilla) engine... or alternately you can do the suck, bang, blow to the IS200. Suck - get an induction kit Apexi, HKS, K&N, Blitz!! Bang - use Denso irriduim performance plugs, performance ignition leads, performance engine oil (Castrol, Mobil, Motul), high octane fuel... these combined can give a bigger bang during compression stroke. Blow - fit a full performance exhaust system HKS, Blitz etc.. thing is all these can only yeild around 15-20 bhp extra if you lucky but still wont slaughter a stock Civic type R nor a Celica 190 at the lights or even at top end as the 1G-FE engine in the IS200 is not a high revving machine even with VVT-i. so for more power either go bigger cubic capacity(IS300) or Turbo(IS200) which = $$$ for not much bang!
  23. Yes they only need regular 95 ron fuel but i changed to 99 ron the same day after fitting my new Toyota battery as that resets the ECU and the ECU will also sense a higher octane fuel is being used so will map to a higher(performance) parameter!! must say MPG has also improved on normal driving but put your foot down and those fuel injectors sucks in that higher octane into the engine like there is no tomorrow! mpg improvement might all be in my head but will carry this on for another month and we will see if Shell is telling the truth about MPG improvement in V power. As for top end power it clocked more than what Lexus quoted for IS300 when an E class merc wanted to have some fun on the M1 :D even with 111,000 engine miles.... And I am not clocking that top end again because it felt like i was going 80mph!!!
  24. my 300 had the same exact symptoms for a while when starting in cold mornings! so changed the spark plugs to Denso ones but that did not cure it so changed my battery to Toyota/Denso ones and that has cured it but i must say i also swapped from Esso/Mobil Super 97 RON to Shell V power 99 RON and I'm still not sure if the cure was down to new batteries or 99 RON fuel. reason being is in my old Ford Cougar V6 everytime i used shell V power and started it in the mornings the engine cranks responsively and the V6 really roared on startup but Shell 95 RON didnt do the same thing but still started OK. So will suggest getting new batteries and see if it makes a difference.. if not chuck about 20 quids worth of V power when you running low the night before and start it up the next day and will notice the 2JZ will crank with no hesitation!!
