  1. + 1 .. I have always stayed away from Supermarket fuels and a loyal Shell, Esso(Mobil) fuel user. I see it like this; the same way a tyre is not just a tyre as they all differ based on compund and performance, thats the way a fuel is not just a fuel and one pays a couple of pence more for quality additives found in BP, Shell, Total, and Esso.
  2. Really?? this is a test of three different high flow panel filters against the stock OEM . http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13245 ok based on the results, one wont feel the difference on the road but its still a gain all the same!! even if no bhp is gained from fitting a high flow panel filter throttle response might be sharper and more responsive depending on ones engines charateristics. and my IS3 has definately become more responsive.. ok not sure if this was down to me cleaning my MAF sensor and reseting my ECU or was down to fitting the Apexi panel filter.
  3. in the case of IS200 maybe not as it does not have a MAF sensor but might make it more responsive and maybe improve mpg. but cars with MAF sensors which have a bigger tuned stock air box to suck in more air and good exhaust system could gain as much as 5+ bhp and torque when a panel filter is installed. Its simple... if an engine is capable of sucking in more air and exhaust it quickly and ECU specification is able to advance ignition timing with a higher compression ratio, it will make a bit more power and torque based on MAF sensor telling the ECU there is more Air coming through so chuck in more fuel into the combustion chamber and make more power please. engine condition and weather conditions will be a factor aswell in the case of naturally aspirated engines though.
  4. congrats....bet you will even be driving to your corner shop just to buy milk :D . any excuse to drive the best car you have driven in 20 years! enjoy
  5. I echo that statement...0-60 figure of IS300 doesn't tell the whole performance story due to the gear ratio chosen by Lexus for second gear. but with VVT-i helping to broaden the torque curve from very low to mid rmps, 260NM is already on tap around 2-2500rpm increasing to almost 290NM at a low 3800rpm then dropping back to around 260NM at 5-6000rpm where maximum bhp is reached so as you can see the torque figures makes in gear/rolling acceleration crazy.. which keeps up with drivers of 3.0TDI 500NM engines pulling out of roundabouts or junctions who think they have all the torque in the world to overtake or out accelerate anyone at those low to mid rpms and the IS300 keeps up; I dont know how it does it but it just does.
  6. I know that feeling Tuesday will feel like an eternity and you will have sleeples nights that Tuesday evening cus all you will be dreaming about is you behind the wheels of that smooth 250 :D! test drove one a while back and they nice cars! enjoy
  7. I mean what would be their reason for passing such a law as I confirmed in my previous post some aftermarket parts are good if not better than OEM parts. Its not like the parts are not tested or deemed safe before being released to the market or its not like modded cars makes up 80% of cars which are involved in road accidents on an annual basis nor do they emit Boeing aircraft level Co2 gasses into the atmosphere. So I really can’t think of any reason to pass such a law. I know its not an idea to get the economy going was just making a point about them channelling their energy and ideas to come up with solutions to our economic issues rather than wasting time on minor issues like modded cars which makes up a small percentage of cars driven on the roads
  8. Seriously!! i really dont understand the European boards that come up with these senseless laws. all after market parts like turbos, wheels, exhausts, filters you name it have all gone through stringent tests and would not be released/sold to the public if they have not passed safety requirements or not been deemed safe to be fitted onto a vehicle. I mean do they think performance or aftermarket companies are the cause of our economic problems or the cause of global warming, high CO2 emmisions or the cause of accidents on our roads?? we all know a highly tuned car will still have to pass emmissions test at the current MOT requirements and most aftermarket parts tend to be better built and engineered than most OEM parts hence some are really expensive to buy. I dont drive a modded car but I feel this will drive all aftermarket companies out of business resulting in more loss of jobs for those working the aftermarket trade. they really need to think of better ideas to get our economy going again rather than wasting time and energy going after aftermarket companies or modded cars who make up a very small percentage of cars driven on the roads today.
  9. just make sure they dont get over oiled though as it might coat your Mass air flow sensor leading to issues thats if the IS200 does have a MAF sensor though hence i went for the dry type Apexi filter instaed they are made from cotton just like K&N but dont need cleaning or oiling. i will just throw away and buy a new one after 25-30,000 miles.
  10. for £30 i would go with the K&N for the fact that it will last a good 40-50,000 miles before it needs cleaning compared to OEM which will need changing after 20,000miles so K&N works out cheaper in the long run and would help the car breath better making it a bit more responsive, bhp gain might be maybe 2-5 bhp whilst improving mpg. was going to drop one in my Air box but went with Apexi high flow panel filter instead as its a Jap brand and thier filters wont need cleaning but will last for 25,000 miles before replacement.
  11. What you pointed out is very true! the government and car companies paint both Hybrids and Diesel cars as extremely economical by a large margin compared to pure petrol counter parts leading to the public jumping on the Hybrid or Diesel band wagon without asking if those cars actually suits their daily commute route to work or driving style. If one lives and works in a densely congested place like London with lots of start and stop traffic without going more than 40 or so mph in 80% of the journey then a Hybrid car comes into its zone because the car will run solely on the electric motor during those start and stop thereby using no fuel from the main engine, will be road tax exempt and congestion charge exempt too so this car will be a win win for someone living and working in the city. If ones daily commute involves more than 70% open road or motorway driving then a hybrid will be a waste of time because for a start the car will run more on the engine than the electric motor and those hybrid batteries are heavy so one will be carrying around extra weight around which will result in more fuel consumption. A 2.0 TDI diesel will be the opposite of a CT200h as 2.0TDI will be in its sweet spot on longer motorway journeys i.e 60 – 70mph cruising but wont be any more economical than a 1.6 to 1.8 litre modern petrol car in start stop driving as diesels are heavier than an equivalent petrol car so it takes more effort to move the car from a stop. This is why you hear diesel drivers complaining about not getting the 50-60mpg quoted figure. because that’s a combined mpg figure not an urban (town) driving figure. And diesels are also a bit more expensive to buy at the pumps and slightly expensive to service so a cheap car to run starts becoming expensive to run. So I do agree with your comment about choosing your car to suit your daily journey/commute. It’s simple; if 60-70% of ones driving involves motorway or open road then get a diesel if you want the economy. If 60-70% of ones driving involve start/stop with driving speeds not exceeding 30-40mph then get a hybrid if you want the economy. But what people forget is modern day petrol powered cars are getting better and edging towards mpg figures of hybrids and diesels e.g. 2011 ford focus 1.6 litre achieves 47mpg if this car is driven sensibly you can get 3-5mpg more taking it up to 50-52mpg. A Toyota Urban cruiser will give 50mpg from its 1.3VVT-i engine will hit a reasonable 110mph and it’s a spacious car so as you can see petrol is catching up. and both of these two examples will be cheaper to by from new than both an equivalnet Hybrid or Diesel car which returns the same mpg.
  12. ST170 making 196NM at a low 2500rpm is no magic because it has VVT-i on intake valves as well so its bound to happen in fact most VVT-i engines makes around 80 to 90% of their overall torque at a low 1500 to 2500 rpm! don’t believe me?? Take a civic type r as an example; it makes 196NM of torque at a very high 5900RPM but can still accelerate from 0-60 in a quick 6.7 secs and hit 146mph this is all due to VTEC helping it make enought torque at the wheels to propel it to 60 in 6.7 and hold that torque even at screamin rpms to make 197bhp and hit 146mph so IS200 will not be making 0NM of torque at 2500rpm it will at least have roughly 175NM at that rpm which gives it only 20NM disadvantage to ST170 and we all know that wont equate to 5 car lengths win if a 0-60 race is done between IS and 3door ST. IS200 weighs 1380kg and makes 153bhp at 6200rpm so this gives it a power to weight ratio of exactly 110bhp per ton. ST170 based on the 3 door version weighs 1283kg and makes 170bhp at 7000rpm so this gives it a power to weight ratio of 132bhp per ton which gives it a 22bhp advantage over 1S200 again 22bhp will equate to about 1-2 car lengths so ST170 will still hold a healthy advantage due to this and the ability to rev higher to 7000rpm but will still not disappear from sight. The IS200 wont handle as sharply around tight corners as the 3 door hatchback ST due to having 2 more doors but that can be cure by investing in some Sport lowering spring to bring the height down slightly and IS200 could go round corners just like a 3 door hatchback. ST’s only primary advantage lies in the fact that it revs to 7000rpm so when you were changing up to the next gear in your IS at 6200 your mate was still holding his gear all the way to 7000rpm thereby putting a bit more torque to the wheels with help of horse power climbing to 7000rpm. So in conclusion I do agree the hatchback ST will definitely outperform the IS200 but certainly won’t have it easy nor will it win by a large margin.
  13. this is £12 more but its genuine and will last 20,000 miles. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-LEXUS-AIR-FILTER-IS200-/170889960610?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27c9d5dca2
  14. i think all versions had sat navs as it might have been an option when buying from new but later models from 04, 05 had sat navs as standard full leather etc.. best is to go for the highest you can offored as they range between £1000 to £6000 on Autotrader. this IS model did not have any recall work in its time from 99 to 05 so all models are bullet proof but that does not mean they dont need maintenance as some people take the word 'bullet proof' as meaning it doesnt need an oil change. !! people complain about alloy corrosion but £200 at pristine alloys will make all four sets look new! so will boil down to your budget really!!
  15. Cheers Dave yes my 300's headlight is also HID/Xenons as you can see in my night view pics i posted earlier in the thread. was on about the map and main interior lights and number plate lights. side lights i will leave as it is. care to post an ebay link of where you got these lights? and how long do they roughly last?
  16. nice LE dave, I'm lookig to swap my interior and number plate lights to hids just like yours is it a straight forward unscrew the light casing remove old bulbs and fit new ones or would it involve more than that?? and which HID bulbs you using and are they reliable or do you have to be replacing them regularly? droped in my Apexi high flow panel filter this morning but havent had the chance to explorer the cars responsiveness and mpg reading yet as i need to clean MAF and reset ECU.
  17. nope 6 cylinders mate dont forget... pple always complain about this but they forget its not a 4 cylinder 16valve engine. but driven sensibly, you can get 25mpg in just town driving and 35 mpg on open road or motorway so its not too bad. but fire those 6 cylinders at every opportunity and you will pay at the pumps...
  18. oi cheeky, i love my mini :L will keep it when i get a new car anyway, too much fun to sell, and those yellow lights are original lucas headlight converters for driving in france, etc haha hmmmmm how low is it? and the spolier would be the first to come off :D what difference does the lsd give? yeh those sport headlight used to be on the 80's and 90's M versions of BMW's aswell those sold in Germany...standard IS sits at 1420mm and sport sits 15mm lower at 1405mm i think but need someone else to double confirm this..LSD simply gives your rear tires more grip so power gets put to the ground effectively they normally put into cars which are 200bhp and above but Lexus was generous and put it in the IS200 Sport and i have a feeling they knew 50% of IS buyers will boost or supercharge thier cars anyway so they made it easy for sport owners by installing it there and apparantley they do handle over 500bhp..so as you can see Lexus over engineered some parts on these cars.
  19. thought mine was bad!! you deserve an upgrade ASAP and Lexus is the right place... am liking those DTM sport yellow head lights tho... good luck with your search and you will find a good one dont worry if the one you find is not 100% so long as its not leaking fluids, starts ok, drives ok , shifts through all gears ok, full or some service history they rest can be put right by you once you buy it but try and push for ones which already have cambelt service done but then again wasnt sure if mine was done when i bought it so had it done for peace of mind... difference is sport has LSD, lower suspension, sport metal peddles for more grip on the foot, rear spoiler, tinted windows thats it i think but bhp stays the same at 153.
  20. nice!! not too over the top nice carbon roof wrap would give it that sport DTM look.. man 20 year olds of today have really got it good i was driving mid 90's renault clio with 1.2 litre engine at 20.. which was over 10yrs ago.. sounds like you into car mods so go for the Sport versions as those have LSD's and they sit lower already from factory was gona suggest IS300 for more power but hold off for now and enjoy the IS200 153 bhp is more than enough for a 20yr old to control.. at 20, my renault was barely 60bhp..
  21. MK1 White IS's are very rare and I still havent seen one on the road except when i was in the US...but these guys can make any IS you buy white for you think there are other companies like this across the country! they will body wrap your car rather than a full spray which cost more. check out what they did to this BM.. only live couple of miles from them so might pop in to have some tinits done on my IS3. an IS will certaiinly look good in white with body wrap carbon bonnet and carbon roof. they do all. http://blog.ttints.c...46-pearl-white/
  22. both blitz and K&N are established companies so they wont get the design of an oil filter wrong as they specialise in filtration... you can switch to 10W40 which is a slightly thicker oil viscocity wise but does not flow fast through the engine during cold(freezing) temperatures comapred to the 5W's if you stick to a good brand you should be ok with 10W's for 6 months change intervals..oh and i've got my eye on those genuine filters for my next oil service i mean you cant go wrong with the price with free shipping thrown in aswell. its Lexus Birminghams ebay shop so its all good.
  23. OMG!! is that for the whole kit then? including the spoiler lights and fogs? if it is then might be worth it being Lexus wanted £500 for an electric wing mirror when mine got vandalised.. the bumpers do look wider than standard but the IS wears it well.
  24. + 1 Rich i do agree and you find the exact ones on the latest Nissan GT-R's need to research on those lights am really being tempted! to do this and flog my current ones on ebay did you notice the rear bumbers were designed by HKS? wonder how much those will cost you see the brand in the middle when he starts reversing ...
  25. i personally think they look nice!! but hey each man to his own huh..
