  1. rather than forking out ££'s for a new set why dont you look for someone braking an IS200 on ebay, gumtree etc.. and have the calipers removed from them for a small fee. I know one guys who breaks IS's in Birmingham message me if you need to get in contact with him for some spare parts... :)
  2. It's pretty bad I'd say off such a small engine. Some consolation for me is that I had a 740i before (BMW E38 7-Series 4.4L) and that was bad on fuel. I have no sympathy for you that was 32 valve V8 monster its designed to drink a lot of fuel :) .. i bet it had some go aswell when u planted the pedal !!Chris looks like the 3 litre IS is the way forward if they both return the same mpg...
  3. tho i have test driven the IS200 i never owned one but from the vibe am getting fro IS200 owners it sounds like the 1G-FE mite be thirstier than the 2JZ 3 litre auto...but hey they are more reliable than most cars in its class :)
  4. It depends on where one drives , how one drives and engine state of tune/health... distance to work is 7.5 miles for me. roughly 3 miles of that is town driving to get me onto the M1 and 4 miles is done on the M1 and 0.5 miles is from the M1 to my work. this is 15 miles each way which works out 75 miles a week and this cost me £25 mon -fri before filling up sat.. which i think its not bad for a 3litre auto but someone might disagree. I check my tyre pressures once or twice every month and make sure both front and rears are sitting on 36PSI of air, I check my oil level once every month aswell and top up to the full mark always same with coolant leve aswell.. some drivers believe in sticking the car in say 4th gear whilst they are traveling at say 20mph and accelerating in that gear thinking its a more economical driving style. this form of driving is actually not economical because more pedal effort is needed to get the car going in 4th when doing 20-30mph. there is more tourque available to the car in 2nd gear when doing 20mph than in 4th gear when travelling at the same speed so always use the right gear for the right speed to accelerate the car and back off 80% of the pedal distance once desired speed is reached in the right gear. Its all about smooth steady acceleration and softer braking for me..which makes it more economical but i only.... let those 200+ horses rip when I encounter d*** heads who feel like they own the roads becuase they are driving German badged cars or just asking for it..and realise thier cars are not special after all once they get put in place or see me keep up through thier rear view mirrors..the look on thier faces is priceless..
  5. yep this is normally achieved with cruise control striclty set at 70mph with engine turning at around 2500rpms which is only 500rpms higher than a mordern diesel engine cruising at the same speed..not sure if using 99ron fuel contributs to this aswell but thats what am running at the moment and it seems to sip fuel until you put your foot down and watch the fuel guage drop down fast.. dont forget the IS300 achives 290NM at only 3800rpm so getting the car moving from a stop or accelerate whilst moving does not take a lot of right pedal effort due to more torque the engine produces..
  6. On a long motorway drive and some town driving I average 31mpg in the IS300 which works out roughly 478 - 480 miles to a tank full.. i think thats not bad for a 3litre automatic with over 100K miles on the clock...well i spoil it with good engine Oil and high octane ferrari fuel :)
  7. Bosch is a good OEM brand but the best sparks to use on these cars are either Denso(Toyota) or NGK plugs they work better for the Lexus engines and for the oil any 5w-30 or 10w-40 oil meeting API-SJ or API-SL should be fine but lean towards 5w-30 spec if you can for better flow into crital engine parts during cold/freezing morning starts.
  8. if IS300(26mpg) does 3mpg less than a manual IS200 (29mpg) this works out at exactly 400 miles rather than 447 miles to the tank full when you drive the 300 over the 200. a difference of 47 miles sounds like a lot but only works out at 1.62 gallons or 7.35litres when 47 miles is converted into gallons using 29mpg as the convertion figure(47/29). if a litre of petrol is 131.9 this works out £9.70 extra to fill the tank of an IS300 over an IS200. I personally would fill in that extra £10ner and enjoy that extra 60bhp and effortless in gear torque acceleration which comes with it :D . all that extra power and torque will only set me back a 10ner at the pump to a full tank but i only fill my cars half tank as carrying extra fuel(full tank) results in high fuel consumtion due to extra weigh being carried around so this actually works out at a £5ver
  9. didnt own the 200 but test drove about 3 before settling for the 300. have always driven manual cars and wanted an auto for a change and the auto does not lag behind when it comes to kicking down effectively and responsively. the 300 has over 200 horse power and almost 300NM torque so acceleration in any gear is no problem. can also be driven as a manual i.e picking and selecting the highest gears you prefer e.g. when approching say a round about or twisty road in a manual car you can clutch down and force the car into 2nd gear which translates to more torque at the wheels to propel you out. a normal automatic car doing the same might anly drop to 3rd gear as the ECU does not know what the driver wants to do because it has no eyes to judge distance only sensors but with the E-shift you can force the box into 2nd gear just like a manual box and this will translate to the same torque out of corners/twisties. and if you want the car to hold a gear you can do the same in M mode i.e you can take a long sweeping corner when you select 2nd/3rd gear and it will hold in that gear during the corner/bend without shifting up like some traditional auto's will do. in a nut shell the IS300 is a better car when it comes to performance it holds the road better and doesnt feel light as the IS200's i test drove and goes better . if you still want to clutch down when driving then go for another IS200 and tune it for more power if you prefer :winky:
  10. matt forget the argument and take a look at this. the jap engine makes 900bhp not 1000bhp. check the 1/4 mile figures at the end. you cant get any brutal than this matt even if bughatti wins the mile not by much and the driver paid £1000000 bucks for it aswell
  11. youtube will give you all the proof you want matt not me ... dont get me wrong I am not saying all Japanese cars are better than German cars but majority of them are almost equal or beat German cars which are held up so high by Top Gear and other UK car review companies but ounce you actually watch real owner challenges between them round a track or drag race you then realise German cars are a bit over hyped and priced. do any search on youtube between Japanese and German cars of roughly equal performance and you will see what i mean. you can even see a 1000bhp nissan skyline vs 1000bhp bughatti and the result is not what top gear whats you to see.
  12. mates of mine from my old job had a Type R and S2000 which i had a go in both one night after work about 5 years ago...have also been in an E46 M3 wanted to see what the fuss was about so test drove one at my local car dealers after seeing it parked for sale pretending i was interested to purchase. must admit havent driven any of those round a race track my self but i have watched counteless videos of German vs Japan performance cars and it looks like German cars are a bit over hyped when it comes to performance on a race track and drag race as that is where the true handling abilites, mechanical grip and speed comes in and not the badge or paper figures.
  13. Tell Top Gear if its loud, obnoxious and asbo brutal they want they could take a Subaru STI, Mitsu Lancer EVO, or Nissan GTR for a test drive one cant get loud or brutal like those performace Jap cars even a Honda S2000 is more obnoxious than an M3, RS4 or a porche carrera round a race track... infact i prefer how my Lexus drives becuase it gives me the smooth, refined drive when am not in the mood to kick some asphalt but once performance mode is activated the car behave differently to the right foot..yes I can hear the engine and exhaust of my mates 330Ci BMW but still prefer the Lex for having two sides to it.
  14. If the parts you are getting has IS200 or 1G-FE engine code listed on it then yes it would fit but for all I know the intake on IS200 and IS300 is different not sure about the exhaust tho maybe they might share the same exhaust system but worth asking the performace parts dealer first if it would fit IS200's. IS200's were not sold in US so finding parts there would be quite tricky. IS200 is as responsive as any 150bhp 4 door sedan offered by other manufactures but because it does it in a smooth way and engine note sounds throaty it gives drivers the idea of being less powerful than it is I did test drove a few before i got the IS300 and the enigine note sounds better than the 300 until M mode is selected before the sound changes. you can definately fit an intake and cat back exhaust from Apexi, HKS and the likes but wont yeild any more than 5-10bhp on the dyno if you lucky. if its just for the sound the you will be ok but for power you might have to Supercharge it as the engine takes a supercharger very well which will boost it to around 220 - 250bhp depending on boost and other mods to acompany it. or if you dont have the time and energy for doing the mods swap the IS200 for the IS300 which which can propel you to 60 in a respectable 7 secs and hit 150mph in real world performance. have had mine at 147mph but wont advise this on UK roads
  15. It could be driven as a manual if you wish but without the hassle of having to clutch down to grab the next gear or drop down the next gear or two as your speed increases/decreases. I think its best of both worlds cus it can be driven in full auto mode during heavy start stop traffic and flicked over to M mode along with ECT PWR button for full driver control when approaching twisties or for a performance drive..this mode changes the engine and exhaust note aswell to a more throatier sporty sound.. am not missing a manual gearbox
  16. dont have one fitted to mine but they meant to be good. most guys on the US forumns have them fitted and for 22BHP gain its not bad but am not liking the price tho $600. I have an Apex'i high flow filter didnt want to run a cone type filter due to heat soak when engine is running hot as that could reduce power rather than make more power so kept the factory air box and went with a dry panel filter instead. http://www.swiftracing.com/SRT/item.aspx?id=2
  17. mmmh not quiet... Toyota tends to over engineer thier engines and I mean OVER ENGINEER.. the IS300's machine (engine) is as powerful as that of the brabus if turbo'd and tweaked a little bit so car badges aside, thier machining and design parameters are not far apart but i know what you mean a Brabus is a Brabus when speaking in terms of car badging. and why would one compare a CT200h to an LS430.. they belong to two different worlds.
  18. if one stays in reverse for a duration of half a mile to a mile then yes it might help if the beep gets disabled but the question is how long does one stay in reverse or reverse a car round a block anyway for this to be a problem?? dont forget the manual IS200's were sold in other continents who are more used to driving 'autos' than 'manual' boxes so lexus thought it will make sense to add a beep when reverse is selected just to make the driver aware and keep them safe. its a 6 speed box so they had no choice than to postion it near 1st gear.
  19. Lexus might aswell throw in a brutal IS450h whilst they at it.. with that kind of engine in that smaller IS chasis who would need an IS-F heh!!
  20. hence i booked mine in to be done by Lexus the same day i bought the car i literally drove straight to Lexus to have it done...mine came with full history aswell but wasnt taking any chances or gambles. you got lucky to have checked it in time...
  21. I personally wouldnt rush and hold off from buying this one.. no MOT , service history, cambelt change history will be a no no for me you can take the gamble and go see the car in the metal maybe have a test drive and if all drives and feels ok before commiting else I would source another £500 and pick another IS going for around £1700 - £2000 with room for negotiating that price down. anything within £1500 £2000 price range will be in good cond, service hist, MOT, Tax etc.. as this one below. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201211214320356/sort/default/usedcars/colour/grey/model/is/make/lexus/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/radius/200/page/1/postcode/lu63hp?logcode=p
  22. I think we are now getting what we(public) asked for.. Lexus was always bashed by the press and public for their cars being setup on the softer side, dull to drive, no connection between driver and the road, and too quiet... they noticed most buyers were flocking to Merc, BMW and Audi show rooms due to the fact that thier cars offered similar luxury equipments but were also 'Sporty' to drive on the limit so my guess will be newer 'Sport' models now offered by Lexus will be or are setup like an F1 car in other words on the very 'hard' side... an example will be my mates BMW 330Ci i have been a passenger and driven his car a couple of times and everytime I get into my IS300 just after driving his mine feels softer and has a coushy feel even tho the IS sits on double wish bone suspesions which are only fitted to Sports cars. I bet the Sport CT200h will feel harder than my IS300 due to the fact that Lexus has now changed thier Sport setups to ride just like the competions Sport models aswell. so you will now hear and feel the road whilst driving. Your LS430 is more balanced weight distribution wise (almost 50:50) and its rear wheel driven compared to the CT200 sport which is front wheel driven with less torque so it will certainly take corners slower than the LS430 regardless of it having a Sport suspension setup. And you will not get the drive, feel and aura of a 50K car from a 22k car it just wont happen due to the extra 28K going towards engineering the 50K car to give that luxury, quality driving feel. so in a nut shell you get what you pay for and we(public) are now getting what we asked of Lexus 'Sport' models (harsh unforgiving ride like a BMW)
  23. hey Somatsu after 7 months, at last one turns up thats if you still looking reasonably priced too :) http://www.autotrade...u63hp?logcode=p
  24. thats why i asked why you didnt go for the 3.0 Spec B when you confirmed you were getting a Legacy?? forget what the book says about the Legacy performance i have seen those Legacies hit 60 in 6 and 160mph from thier auto boxes. and can stick and get out of a corner just like an STI with those AWD's. depends on your budget but have you considered INFINITI G37 saloons?? one word 'blistering'
