  1. Thats me on my way to town this morning about 2 hours ago and its still snowing here as I type... -1 outside I dont have a measuring tape but my guess will be an inch of snow snow mode activated as usual no salt or grit as the council cant be bothered as usual same here summer Pirelli Rosso's and away we go :D ... like I said high grippy tires + snow mode works a treat matt..tell that C Class driver to get him a Lexus IS300 and wont go wrong with the Snow mode setting. winters will do a better job than the Rosso's for sure but like i said depending on where one lives one can get by with high performance grippy summer's with good wet handling grip just fine! and I am also stopping and moving away from a stop just fine..!!
  2. wow ... am 30 have 9 years no claims and checked how much an IS-F would cost me and cheapest was £3000 a year.. wont be fun having a tracker fitted to my car sounds more like big brother to me!!
  3. Really ? a woman turning down a car because its soo new?? i do agree the ISF's are going for around 18-20K mark so a bit pricey for me too the insurance alone for me on an IS-F can buy another IS300..'powerless??'..It depends on the cars you were trying to take on on the motorway..IS250 will be as powerful as any 200 bhp car weighing 1400 - 1600 KG so it wont stand a chance over S4's, BMW M's or AMG's for sure...if you were used to big Turbo or V8 power then you might find IS250 a bit gutless but they are still capable.. go for what both you and the wife are happy to drive mate both the S4 and R32 will be well built and both do have Quattro(4WD) so that alone ticks the boxes of what you looking for...
  4. I think you can get £15,000 for it based on what 2011 IS250's are going for on Autotrader at the mo..any reason why you selling?? Audi S4's are beasts by the way but I personally would take the keys of an IS-F over one just for the fact that I am biased towards Jap cars :D ..
  5. Welcome to the world of Lexus where 10 yr old cars with over 100,000 miles still drives like new and eveything works :) .. Parts are not cheap on these cars and they are engineered to out last most 62 plate cars you see on the roads today.. service it when its due and you wont have any major problems.. the major problem about Lexus cars is once you have owned a Lexus car any other cars will feel like a compromise some owners have left for other brands thinking the grass is greener but have returned back to a Lexus... its just something about Lexus cars.... and although this is my first Lexus it wont be my last so long as I can run one!! Welcome and enjoy yours :) ..
  6. not sure if its a Pirelli thing but am also running Pirelli P Zero Rosso's which are meant to be high performance summer tyres with a wet rating grip of 'B' and managed to drive my car ok with snow button on. was -3 yesterday with fare bit of snow here in bedfordshire and drove 7 miles from work with this rubber. these were already on the car when i bought it a year ago so has seen the back of 10,000 miles .. needed some groceries today and its -1 outside still with some snow outside. defrosted the car/engine for about 5 mins stuck it in reverse activated my snow button and away we go on summer tyres :) .. And these are high performance summer tyres inflated at 36PSI so am a bit surprised as to how others are finding it difficult to cope without running winter tyres on thier Lexus..I guess it boils down to where one lives in the UK and if you think you really need a winter tyre.. yes winter tyres will do a better job than summer tyres in wintery conditions as that is what they are designed for but that does not make summer tyres with natural grip and wet handling grip redundant in wintery conditions or once the weather gets into the minus figures. summer rubber with good grip and wet handling grip are more than capable as winter rubber in snow but will boil down to where one lives i suppose..
  7. nice looks different and clean :) .suits the colour well might aswell do the Lexus emblems in front and back into gold aswell.. Lexus should have actually offered something like this for the LS and call it 'Gold Edition' or something along those lines
  8. just got home from work after a 7 mile trip on the summer Pirelli's Rosso's with Snow mode activated and keeping speed at a low 30mph, feathering the throttle, not accelerating when approaching roundabouts and its been fine in -3 conditions today with quite some snow on the roads. But i live in Bedfordshire so we might not have severe snow here...any one else running summer wheels and managing ok?
  9. +1.. Infact I still have my summer Pirelli Rosso's on and the car has been coping well without winter tyres just becuse i dont have the space to store summer tyres and like you said for the minor winters we have in UK, there is really no point for winter tyres. If the roads are undrivable i park my car lie in knowing I have saved ££'s on winter tyres and also avoided some one else running into me on them icy roads even if I had winter tyres on minding my own business on the road. save your money on winter tyres and stay at home people :winky:
  10. if it sounds like fuel related then might be fuel pump! but rather than guess what it might be best to take it to a garage to for more diagnosis but from the symptoms my guess will be fuel pump/ fuel filter.
  11. does this happen say when you change up a gear and accelerate quicky? if it revs and no power for a second or two then picks up speed the sounds like your clutch might be slipping..
  12. I dont have the IS250 owners manual but i believe it wont hurt the engine or gerbox to run ECT PWR with S mode activated. if it did then Lexus would have added a caution note in the manual about not running these two modes at the same time. for all I know snow mode 'dulls' the throttle response ie the engine trottle wont open up quickly when you depress the accelerator pedal so you get less rear wheel spin but other factors like retarding the ignition timing and differential response might also come into play but not 100% sure to be honest. SNOW mode dulls the car ECT PWR wakes it up more!! only way to find out if it start in 2nd is to switch your screen mode to the gear change selector as i believe you can do this on the IS250 and that will tell you which gear the car is actually in when moving in SNOW mode.
  13. yep I do agree just like VVT-i this device alone uses crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, air flow meter, Throttle position sensor, water tempereture sensor, oil control valve, and ECU to make it work so as you can see in order to fully understand it technically with all those sensor calcualtions and algorithms will take be hard work. but all you need to know is VVT-i gives more torque in any rpm and improves high revs power. same as ECT PWR it improves the cars behavior in terms of responses and gives the car all the power available to it when its activated thats it...
  14. drop a super charger in it if not then just go Nos
  15. Yes you can... but dont want to spoil it for you so try it out and find out for your self :)
  16. Haha I know maybe the badge does stand for the actaull road horse power not the displacement.. cus mine does hung with turbo hot hatches and 3.0 diesels with around 500NM of torque and slays them easily in M ECT-PWR mode..I mean I still dont understand how a naturally aspirated 2.5 litre car without a turbo can do 161mph that shows how efficient the gearbox alone is cus it can harness that power without loosing it most cars can have 250 - 300bhp being generated from the engine but if the gearbox, alternator etc robs them of 50bhp you will find yourself keeping up with them easily hence i have now come to undersatnd its not always about the huge horsepower an engine produces but you also need efficient mechanical parts to hrness that power to the wheels...and i recon Lexus mechanical parts are quite efficient in harnessing real power to the wheels.
  17. Yep told you it was long :D took me about 2 days to finish reading it but still dont fully understand it to be honest. I dont think Kurtz is right about this mode being slower than normal mode only way to find out is to have it tested using these devices which can calculate 0-60 and quater mile speed accurately and that can give us an outcome..most of the technical developments comes from Japan so my guess will be it was a Jap engineer who designed it. Yes i agree it would be nice to get a Lexus Japan for the answer but these things are secret as to how they Technically or how th algorithms work so i doubt they would disclose this info to the rest of the world. they will only tell us the basics of how it operates and thats it.
  18. funny the more i keep looking at the new IS from other angles the more i keep thinking it actually does have a nice clean design.. and you can tell everything from the front desing to the sides has been done to chanel air to the back of the car for downforce and rear grip..this thing looks like it will handle better than a BMW round the Nurburgring... i like it :) but Lexus please bring the IS350 for those of us who dont want the IS250 nor a hybrid either..
  19. Fords are good strong cars and have owned two first was the 1.25 zetec engine that revved to 7000rpm from its little yamaha engine and the second was V6 ford Cougar was confortable to drive and went well the sound of that V6 once its passed 4200rpm was nice..reliable cars aswell never had any issues with my fiesta and the only major issue i had with the V6 was alternator but apart from that was a nice car to drive but not as nice and as fast as the IS300 tho..
  20. Lexus did that with the 1st Gen IS hence its so much fun to drive..Nobuaki Katayama the chief engineer was a 'driver' a racing driver to be exact and thanks to his input the Toyota AE86, Toyota Supra and Lexus IS200/300 are now iconic cars driven by enthusiasts and 'drivers'. these three cars do not drive themselves.. you have to drive the car and be awake to control it as well other wise you will loose the back end and thats what makes them fun to drive and thier designs were typical Jap design.
  21. +1 .... the only cars which have come out of Japan recently that i take I liking to due to thier oriental design and funkyness is the Toyota GT86 , Gen 2 Honda Civic Type R, Nissan GTR and Lexus LFA ..
  22. I do agree the newer Lexus's are looking abit too 'German' and have lost that oriental design and touch to them! the Japanese have always been known not to design sexy cars but they were tough, rigid and packed some punch the Nobuaki Katyama designed 1st Gen IS i beleive will be a classic design mainly the back design with those clear lights..and look stunning in sport, TTE form aswell. dont get me wrong am all for new ideas and inovations when it comes to car designs but Lexus has gone a bit too Germanic off late must say i do love the front and side views tho not so much the rear. the interior with those LFA inspired dash yells 'SPORT' which i like but nothing can still touch this 1994/95 design which got released in 99. Classic
  23. if you own an LS400\Celsior keep it cus I believe those first ever Lexus cars could fetch a lot of cash in another 20/30 years time.. they are known as the first ever Lexus before thier smaller brothers were born. more so if you own an 89/90 model.
  24. really depends if you really want a Lexus .. first of all ask why does your mate want to swap his Lexus with you?? migh have a problem which he wants to get rid off and if your Vauxhall is running ok and not giving any problems why do you want to swap it for the Lex?? if you just fancy a Lex and dont mind loosing 10 miles more for the same gallon as compared to the Vuaxhall then by all means swap for the IS200, it would be more smoother, refined and less noiser than the Diesel and as you confirmed they hardly break but when they do its not cheap, Jap car parts are not cheap in general same as Honda, Nissan, Mazda but Lexus being a premium brand commands more ££'s for parts..... servicing like oil and filter changes would be about the same as the diesel.
  25. a dirty MAF sensor, air filter, and engine oil could increase fuel consumption. even a faulty or bad O2 sensor could give the engine wrong signals/reading which will result in it chuking in more fuel than needed to do the same amount of work but before you start throwing money at it have it code read first for any errors and that would give you an idea of where to start looking!!
