  1. Free Country?? I agree since when was UK a free country? we have CCTV cameras than most countries in the world dont get me wrong am all for security but crime rate is still high when compared to say Sweden or Denmark , we are not allowed to design, build and paint houses as we please because it would not blend in with our neighbours homes, we all drive pretty much the same cars on the roads (well except Lexus drivers)and if you try to be a bit different you pay for it in taxes or the law wont even permit it in the first place so a democratic free country its certainly not. Back to road taxes your guess was as good as mine..the gorvernment is trying to steer all to drive Diesels. Dont get me wrong I have nothing against Diesel cars is just that I am still not sold on it yet for the fact that modern diesel cars are known to be powerful but very very unreliable and parts like Turbo's, Clutch&Flywheel, Injectors, headgaskets etc are very expensive to replace if and when they go which they usually do. I always say, Naturally aspirated Petrol powered cars always wins in terms of reliability, running costs ,longevity and cleanliness with regards to environmental pollution than modern deisels but as confirmed the government will not recognise the Oxide which they emit to the environment but comes hard on petrol drivers for thier CO2 emissions. think about this, most European car manufactures have put so much R&D into diesel technology so it is a very smart move by European governments to lower road tax prices for diesel drivers which will push sales of thier cars up which translates into more revenue being generated by the country on the flip side your car will be sold to you because it was advertised as doing 50mpg but you end up paying £3000 more for it at the showrooms compared to a similar petrol powered car and 7pence more everytime you fill up a litre at the pumps this also translates to more revenue for the country. deep down they know petrol always wins and the only way to generate more revenue from petrol drivers is to bump up road tax to £460 a year if you emit 255g/km or more compared to a diesel car of the same engine size and power which emits more harmful deposits into the atmosphere but only pays £100 a year. as a petrol head maybe the US should be the place to be where i can drive my 2013 IS-F or Infiniti M37 without paying £500 a year just in road taxes. :-)
  2. Ok so my road tax runs out soon and my reminder came through. I dont usually read the whole reminder as I already know how much road tax to pay but got curious and noticed my car emits 256 g/km of CO2 which am guessing in a petrol car released today will work out at £460 a year as opposed to mine being £270 the difference being mine is an 02 plate. I usually hear people say diesel engines pollute far more than petrol engines of the same engine capacity or power. so decided to compare my IS300's road tax rate to a 2013 BMW 330d. and the BMW cost £100 to tax for the year were as mine cost £270 a year WTF?? I also came across this article below and was thinking if diesels emit more harmful gases compared to petrols then sure they should be paying thier fare share of road tax too. or is this the governments way of converting petrol heads like me to start considering a diesel since both gorvernment and car makers make a FAT margin if they flog you diesel at the pumps and show rooms than petrol? someone please explain to me why I am paying more to drive on the same road as 'Joe' who owns the 2013 BMW 330d which apparantely emits more harmful gasses than me.. http://hanlonblog.dailymail.co.uk/2012/07/the-great-diesel-con-exposed.html
  3. I know am guessing its still new and hasnt grown on people yet! still a nice fast motor and would definately buy one if my lottery numbers drop. production has now ended but i guess i can convince Lexus to build me one if i tempt them with £500,000 even tho they are still making a loss on it.
  4. Yeh Rory.. updates... whats your reason for the change then? is it bordom ? as the old saying goes 'if it aint broke, dont fix it'
  5. Was under the impression the 300h was a 2.5 V6? I think most do not classify the CT as a Lexus! It gets soo much bashing ..Please don't shoot the messanger..
  6. 4 cylinders are not smooth and quiet enough by Lexus standards hence they limit to 6 cylinders. Lexus is a brand which has always been associated with smoothness so chances of us seeing a 4 pot is very slim. They did have the 4 cylinder diesel but that went out fast and i think Lexus themselves were also relieved to see the back of it. Was all down to them not putting a lot of R&D into the diesel technology like the Germans but they do have billions of dollars invested in R&D Hybrid technology so will make sense to have more cylinders in their cars for smoothness and run it on a set of batteries for more economy and better emissions.
  7. you would have received a free sump plug if you had gone for OE part from Lexus !! Not sure if they sell the sump plugs seperately tho but worth checking the condition of the one you currently have if its in good condition chaces are it will be ok for another 10k miles. The sump plug wasn't changed in my previous oil service and it was fine until my recent oil service. This was the fact that i used blue print oil filter previously which did not include sump plug but went for OE this time and it did so you should be ok with the existing one you have based on its condition.
  8. Apparantely they are better built than Audi's. I recon newer shape VW Passats are more rarer than Audi's and BMW's and if I decide to go German they have the Passat 3.2 V6 or the Stonkin R36 .. but you wont like the insurance and fuel bills on the R36 tho..
  9. you mean like this? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302265500276/sort/default/usedcars/model/300c/make/chrysler/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/radius/200/postcode/lu63hp/page/1?logcode=p had a soft spot for the presence of this car when they first came out. they meant to use Merc engines right?
  10. dad had the W201 when i was young i think it was the 2.5 model not the high performance Cosworth head tho. thing went and that might where i got 'need for speed' dad liked fast powerful cars and so do I. the models i like is the W124's the 4.2 or 5.0litre versions are solid like Tanks either in Coupe or Saloon just like the one i posted in the first thread.
  11. Tell him to give you the keys to the E55. I rate the older Mercs as i personally think they were engineered well not sure about the newer models though. I rode in the E320CDI when i was in Munich as wasnt impressed might have been the basic model but being an E class i was expecting more but inside had no soul. but the S550 i rode in US was crazy the space at the back of that car and the power and sound was mighty for the size of car. I think that is the fastest car i have ever been in and before any one asks am not a millionaire just got the chance as my mate i visited in NY is a chaffeur and owns it. the sound system in that Merc is top class too. nice cars but for some reason i will pick an LS460 F Sport over one might be the Lexus bug
  12. 320d is a common car mikey Rory was looking for something rare and not too common like a BMW everyone has thier own point of view mikey. Tell anyone you own a Subaru and they automatically think quick fast car. The brand is known for that even though all their cars are not high performance but most associate a Subaru or the badge with high performance so i wont be wrong with that comment . Feel free to copy and paste my sig to yours if you like it soo much to comment about it. Am not the only one here with a list in their sig. Wont fall for the usual trap which will end up in Rorys tread being hijacked and thrown off topic. One advice before i sign off Mikey don't go flexing your 320d's mucles near a Subaru Legacy R if you want to save face.
  13. Honda Accord. :) p.s. the ones we have here are actually sold as Acura TSX in the US, so there's some street-cred for ya ;) Was in US summer last year and must say those Acura TSX's looked quiet nice they look slightly larger in size with different body kits and pack more options compared to the Accords we have here but saying that i wont mind a 2.4 Accord in Auto with beige interior leather. the TSX's in US also pack meaty V6 motors under the hood too. why does US and Japan always get the goodies and Europe gets the not soo good ones. example IS350 sold in Japan and US but not in Europe. Infiniti cars sold in US and Japan and have just been introduced in Europe but as usual, Europeans badge snobery has put sales of Infiniti low and this was the same boat Lexus was in a couple of decades ago until most in Europe started seeing the light. Infiniti's are nice Luxury cars from Nissan and if I can afford one will opt for the M37 or G37 in saloon. thats one rare car aswell and with 330bhp from that engine.
  14. full synthetic if you can! Opie does good deals but Eurocarparts are still doing 25% off on Oil and other parts. and you can either pick up from any of thier branches or they deliver for free. picked up 8 litres of Petronas Syntium 5W-30 over the weekend and had my oil change done with the filter below. car feels and responds A1. :) you also get sump plug washer aswell.its Lexus Birminghams ebay store so its 100% genuine part. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170971980051?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648
  15. Mmmm tricky one. its hard to find Nice, Reliable, Economical without being common all in one car. one might be reliable and nice but not economical and common on the roads, whilst another will be common and economical but not that great in the reliability department. so there will always be shortcomings when buying a car. if you dont use the boost on this car then it should be economical on daily basis until you come on boost. How many of these cars have you seen this month? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302205426062/sort/default/usedcars/model/mazda6/make/mazda/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/keywords/mps/postcode/lu63hp/radius/200/page/1?logcode=p this is pretty much same mpg as the IS300 but no one laughs at drivers of these cars infact the badge alone makes drivers of high performace cars tread with caution around it on the road :-) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-55-Subaru-Legacy-3-0R-Sat-Nav-auto-R-5995-NOW-4995-/160985079015?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D6014790843153681625%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D160985079015%26 all within budget aswell..
  16. Depends if that 60bhp the IS300 packs over the IS200 will be used on a daily basis or ocassionally. if you will use it then you certainly wont worry about the extra 700euros a year but if you wont be using the grunt and power is not a priority when looking at cars then save 700euros and get the IS200. if you put 'power' on top of your list then you already know which one of the two to go for.
  17. I think everyone has now come to the conclusion 'Diesel engines' and 'Lexus' do not mix..
  18. oh yes 95 also contains additives but higher ron's contain a bit more! i tend to alternate between 95 and 99.. i use branded 95 most times and give it 99 for a month or two continously then go back to 95 again.. but saying that i have been running 99 for over 6 months now price difference is not a lot if you work it out. about £2.50 more to fill to half tank and £5 more on a full tank..but i never fill up full tank! no point in driving around with excess weight so can let £2.50 slide by..
  19. he could be the judge of that :)
  20. i've messaged you his number.
  21. Why would any one put thier 8 year old in danger..even if she asked to drive the answer should be NO.. this poor girl wont have a clue how to control this huge sedan if a slight slip is experienced in the snow.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REyoTAhRcRQ
  22. no probs mate!! worth giving him a phone call mate he doesnt mind as he wants business so will be quicker to ask him over the phone. dont know anyone else breaking thier IS300 but worth having a look on ebay you might get lucky.. :)
