  1. haha give the ladys what they want panya..we can swap cars if you cant handle the attention :winky:
  2. really! why did you needed a Ka then? was the 300 not behaving itself?
  3. am a lil bit older than you but i need 4 doors for practicallity.. only two performance cars i regret for not owning are the Toyota Celica VVTL-i and the Honda S2000 and the good thing i like about them is not a lot of people know the true performance of the S2000 and they go and buy Porche's and M3's until they see that little 2.0litre car keeping up on their rear bumper on a race track .. always
  4. yeh maybe when the weather starts getting a bit warmer i might book it in for a dyno. and yeh keeping it oem is best decision panya. what most forget is most parts on the IS like manifold, y pipe, exhaust are already good in stock form..so before you think of more power upgrade, its better to upgrade things like brake discs/pads to performance ones and maybe upgrading suspension parts like sway bars, bushes to more rigid ones and also lower the cars height slightly with maybe Eibach lowering springs with front/rear strut brace thrown in and you will be able to stop the car much more later and carry more of the 211bhp power through corners and long sweeping bends without coming of the throttle and the car will stay planted...somethimes most people think they need more power but what they really need is a brake system upgrade and suspension upgrade to put that stock power down effectively... go to see a stock honda S2000 take on some high performace cars.. all down to good car balance better brakes and suspension. car only makes about 240bhp max but embarasses high performance cars like there were all being driven by grannys.. I love that car man :)
  5. dyno prices where I am is about £75 and you can have as many pulls as you want. yeh read a bit about the adjustable cam gear, header, y pipe , cat back upgrades on the US forums but apparantly all they do it make the car a bit more responsive and not that much BHP could be gained from it maybe 10-15bhp and the parts a not cheap so you gota weigh the options if the money is worth 15bhp and will one really feel 15bhp increase in a car?? maybe top end will be improved with these mods.
  6. so have you put yours on a Dyno after the intake mod just to check what bhp your baby is pushing or will that be after the Turbo upgrade?? I am considering dynoing mine as am kinda curios as to what bhp its pushing after 11 years..
  7. ah yes in D mode it will try and stay in higher gears as much as possible to save you fuel and run more economical i guess. if you you not happy with that granny setting activate the ECT-PWR button and drive in that mode always. and it will hold on to lower gears more so if lets say if ECU seletcs 4th or even 5th when cruising at 40mph, ECT-PWR will hold it in 3rd gear when doing 40mph so the moment you floor it you wont have to wait for it to kick down..it will just go. :D ... yeh VSC is there to always keep the car stable in spirited driving so we dont end up in a ditch i guess.. i like it on cus it protects us and the car and to be honest i havent felt the need to turn TRC off even when driving aggressively and VSC has kicked in twice which came in handy other wise i would have lost the back end..
  8. so if you say the auto box is slow what do you mean?? do you mean slow to kick down when you put your foot down or slow to respond to the Up/Down buttons??
  9. you not doing ECT-PWR with M mode justice Panya . Lexus put M mode there for you to think for the ECU rather than it thinking for its self. :winky:
  10. IS300 211bhp, 288NM torque, weight 1500kg power to weight 140bhp per ton torque to weight 192 nm per ton compression ratio 10:5.1 330i manual saloon 231, 300NM torque, weight 1505kg power to weight 153bhp per ton tourque to weight 199 nm per ton compression ratio 10:2.1 as you can see, the manual BMW only has 13bhp and 7nm torque advantage over the auto IS but the IS has better compression ratio which means more mechanical energy could be extracted from the engine during every power stroke which closes this gap performance wise between the two cars even more. a 330Ci coupe has raced me before and the only time i couldn't keep up was on the very tight corners and i think this was due to me not using M mode to pick and choose my gears before entering a corner as the car was still new to me that time but when we got on a straight line, there was no difference between both cars and he couldn't loose me as our torque figures for both cars are pretty much even so he couldn't pull any faster than me. all am saying is the auto IS300 is very close to the BMW 330i performance than you really think. I know IS300 is def out in your books as its auto but its a capable when compared to the car you trying to get the IS200 performance to.
  11. had 1.25 zetec fiesta light weight and nippy from the Yamaha engine had the 2.5 V6 aswell very capable car but the IS300 feels lighter and drives better than it. and it weighs 1500kg compared to the cougars weight of 1340kg if i could still remember. Duratec V6 will always be a Porche designed engine mate. not fords if i design a shoe and sell it to you to print your name on it the shoe is still my design not yours. infact that engine had a Cosworth head am lead to believe. if you want around 250bhp from the 1G-FE engine then your solution is forced induction either Turbo route or Super charger route. if you dont mind me asking, which bmw powrr do you want in the Lex?
  12. Ford Duratec V6 is a Porche desinged engine. if Mazda made the duratec engine its still a good thing Mazda knows how to build good engines. clue Mazda RX's .. last time i checked IS300 shared the same suspension part, height, double wishbone and had LSD which is the same as IS200 sport and last time i checked IS300 had a 54:46 front and back weight distribution. in other words a car cant get any more balanced than that maybe BMW but you will have to push the car hard to really notice. sounds like you contradicting your self here.. you want a bit more power but dont want an IS300, WRX ,BMW. dont want 0-60 performance but want a turbo IS200?? make up your mind bud either you want performance or you dont. Toyota 3S-GTE can be considered. light and powerful or maybe just get Mondeo ST220 and turbo it.
  13. fully synthetic 5W-30. and if its going through a lot of oil on a monthly basis. you can switch to fully synthetic 10W-40.
  14. "Don't make a slow car fast, buy a fast car instead." and for once i will have to agree with mat on the above statement. although i might know one or two things about cars and modding, am a novice when it comes to Turboing and wiring but thats not saying i dont know how a Turbo engine works. I needed more power from my V6 ford Cougar so rather than spend ££'s modding the ford Duratec engine which is a capable engine as seen in the Noble M12 or going for IS200 and modding it, I decided to go the cheaper option and part ex my Cougar for the IS300 with respectable 210bhp already under the hood from factory paid a small fee for the IS after part ex and job was done no messing with modding. on paper the performance figures of Cougar and IS300 are similar but the IS300 wins hands down it accelerates better, it corners better, consumes the same fuel, it stops better and drives better even with an auto and 2 more doors to its name compared to the V6 Cougar. I gave the same advise to another member on here looking to make thier IS200 a bit faster by advising, them to get an already quick fast car from factory like Subaru WRX , Mazda MPS i mean, these already factory boosted cars are good for 5 - 6 secs 0-60 and and 03-04 plate could be picked up for £3000 - £4000, or go for bigger displacement cars like IS300 or even jump ship for BMW 330i, Audi A4 3.0 quattro if you like those brands and all within £2000 - £4000 budget and will take an extremly powerful car maybe 300+ bhp and a good driver to run away from these cars in a challenge. in my opinion, these cars have enough performance to handle everyday driving and taking on most. but hey dont let this put you off if you still want to keep the IS200 and do the turbo upgrades then by all means go for it as its your car and money..
  15. for 250 - 300 bhp, 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GE(Turbo) or 2JZ-GTE single or twin turbo setup, 3UZ-FE V8 . so sounds like you will need an engine swap mate. about automatic i always thought automatic boxes were slow to react and sap more engine power but i thought i'll give one a go after driving manuals in all my previous cars and wanted a change for ounce. and I can say there is no day i drive this autobox either in D mode or M mode and think, gosh i need a manual not this box mate. am still a hardcore manual box lover but i think it depends on the car one is driving. dont get me wrong a manual box will always give the driver full control of the engine with regards to putting power down but the M mode does a preety good job of helping you select the highest gear you want. e.g. when am approaching a tight corner or turn in spirited driving i can slot the box in 2nd gear same as any manual car can do and we will both have the best torque to exit that corner so in other words it can drive like a manual car if you want to without clutching down to drop down or move up the next gear. but hey everyone has thier preference so you can always use a Supra getrag manual gearbox to go with your upgrades as that takes over 300bhp for sure.
  16. dependin on if you have a safe parking space or garage, you could SORN your LS, uninsure it and get your self a relaible cheap 1.0litre Nissan micra which will cost you about £300 with good length of mot and tax left on it and will cost you about £10 on fuel a week to run(depending on mileage travelled of course) untill you back on your feet with regards to job. then all you need to be doing is warming up the LS for 15minutes every 2-3 weeks to keep fluids and engine turning.
  17. i have had mine for about 14 months now and I have never returned 15mpg even when driving in town i think the lowest i have got is 18mpg all from working it out manually based on gallons bought against miles travelled. best i have got is 33mpg I am trying to reach 40mpg one day tho but i dont think the OP is interested in mpg so i will stop spamming now. :)
  18. @Petay It does mate! my previous car was a ford Cougar V6 which has similar official town and combined MPG figures as the IS200 and I am filling up the IS300 with the same amount i filled up the Cougar with on weekly basis if that gives you a clue.. oh and coming to your mates Type R, a Type R does have Torque but because it comes in at around 6000rpm that small tourque is being generated by the engine quicker because the engine is spinning faster at 6000rpm so power to the wheels will be more with help of gear ratios. bhp figure is derived from torque and if theType R can make 200bhp then the engine is certainly generating ample torque to the front wheels. go to see the 196NM torque Civic Type R vs the 320NM torque Turbo charged Focus ST. from the sound of the engine i can tell the Type R is not turbo'ed just the VTEC sound. as you can see the Civic is almost doubling that small torque figure because the engine is being spun faster. spin it fast and you can transmit that small tourque figure quicker to the wheels.
  19. you might be right mate.. even tho they are Turbo i guess they have to work maybe a bit more compared to a larger displacement engine with slightly lower bhp but with more cylinders.. the The 2JZ single or twin Turbo upgrade sounds good but i personally havent got to the point where i think geez i need more power or only if i had more power! so you might be right maybe the Audi S3 wasnt redlining but only the driver will know.
  20. In that cae something is not right because your car is drinking fuel like a V8 GS430. sorry cant help then..
  21. Hi damtrx when driving normally at which rpm do you change up to the next gear? and which viscosity of engine oil are you using and which type of fuel? reason why I ask is if you tend to change gears around 3500rpm or above most of the time in each gear then the car wont be economical in town driving because you will be opening the secondary intake ports which sucks in more air into the engine and if ECU senses more aire coming in, it will then chuck in more fuel. if you are using 10W-40 instead of 5W-30 engine oil then although you are not doing any damage to the engine, it will not run efficiently as 10w-40 is slighlty thicker than 5W-30. Although any 95RON fuel will be ok for the IS engine, all fuels are not formualted the same just like Tyres are not designed the same so unfortuntely if you are not using branded fuels like BP. Esso, Shell, Total then you might not get better or more mpg from the engine. all fuels come from the same refinery but its the extra friction reducing additives added into these fuels which makes them differ from another brand of fuel or non branded fuel. I get between 20- 23 mpg in town driving in auto IS300 not sure how that works out in Litres/100km and its 11years old with 116,000miles on the clock so in other words it should be getting worse mpg but its doing the opposite and giving more using Shell fuels.
  22. umm if im honest mate im not really too sure possibly around the 220bhp mark ive just noticed that for a 2ltr car its pretty slugish as standard (my personal opinion anyway) 220bhp will be a quick IS200 and will hang with most hothatches all day long but since you are a novice like me when it comes to Turbo charging, I can recommend two options. sell your IS200 and buy the IS300. it pushes 210bhp, the whole car will fall into your modding budget, its good for 7 secs to 60mph and on a good day can kiss 150mph on the speedometer. thing with the IS300 is its not got a jaw dropping BHP figure but because the engine and gearbox is very responsive it gains speed very easily so by the time a Turbo hothatch like an Audi S3 is waiting for thier Turbo to spool up, you are already on CAM with the VVTi and gone :-) sell your IS and buy a Turbo charged car like Subaru WRX, or Mazda MPS most WRX's between 02-03plate can be picked up for £3-3.5K just like this one below. how does 5.9secs 0-60 sound bud ?? http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201301305118141/sort/default/usedcars/price-from/2000/price-to/4000/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/fuel-type/petrol/body-type/saloon/model/impreza/make/subaru/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/page/2/postcode/lu63hp/radius/200?logcode=p
  23. hey Sparky what are you pushing from your twin turbo setup at the mo? saw you on youtube hitting 0-60 in 6 secs.
