  1. @Mike Its fraudulent if you knowingly give the wrong information to a question or fail to declare something such as not reporting an accident you may have had. Its as simple as that. It dosent matter that you feel there is no benefit for them or Party A or Party B, those are the rules. No this is not a fraud since you will not be benefiting anything by not disclosing an incident involving your vehicle which did not involve in an insurance claim. I think we need to understand, I am not saying one should never notify their insurance company but i feel the only time to notify them is if the incident is deemed relevant to be logged with your insurance i.e. a big shant which involved in injuries and will involve 1000's of repair bills. but a small bumper scratch or slight paint work damage which might cost say £300 to put right?? get real.. choosing not to answer 'yes' on paper to a minor incident which did not involve an insurance claim and which you deem not to be relevant is not fraud since you will not be profiting or gaining anything by answering 'No'. but by answering 'Yes' to this question as others have confirmed on here they had to fight their corner in order to get the information removed from their file after reporting a minor incident involving their vehicle to their insurance company, which resulted in a hike on their insurance premium. as i already confirmed some clauses stated in the insurance 'Terms and Conditions' are there to only make money and nothing of benefit to the customer. And as we know these problems that may appear later are always easy to resolve with the garages bending over backwards to help you. In your dreams Not in the dreams if you know how to fight your corner..we all know garages will try and wiggle their way or admit fault out of a botched job. regardless of if it was a minor accident repair job, a respray job or wrong engine oil used during a service. hence the supply of Goods and service Act is in place to give customers a form of protection. An you right there is no point arguing these points as we all know the insurance companies rules and laws and sometimes the rules and laws are there to profit the companies and nothing to do with 'helping' the customer out. I know the decision to take if i find my self in this situation where by i didn't have to put in a claim through my insurance.. Good Day
  2. hence my question of what benefit does it bring to the driver to inform his insurance company even when he is not making a claim?? why do they need to know about an incident involving my vehicle if I am not putting in a claim? I thought we all clued up enough to know by now that 'Terms and conditions' of a company our drafted in order to cover the company's back side, have a get out clause benefit the company. 'Terms and conditions' never set out to benefit the customer or policy holder in any way. And not sure why a customer will be committing fraud if he settles a 3rd party repair without involving his insurance company. the customer has not gained anything by not phoning his insurance company so how can this be deemed fraudulent act or practice? If problems arises for the 'not at fault' drivers vehicle after a repair was carried out, he would be covered under the 'Supply of Goods and Service Act 1982' regulation so long as he has a copy of the billing invoice so wont need the muscles of an insurance company to persuade the garage. moreover are garages not meant to legally apply a form of guarantee of a job/repair they carry out on a vehicle over a period of time??
  3. which i agree Mike But they will only find out if Driver A triggers it by picking up the phone and telling them the story. the end goal here was to get driver B's car repaired. Driver B didn't care how driver A goes about it. Driver B wanted his car repaired. this has been achieved and he his now a happy man back on the road. the case has now been closed so we all know driver B cannot claim through his insurance as he no longer has a damaged car as evidence neither can he claim through driver A's insurance as he's not the policy holder. driver A's insurance company wont have any excuse for not paying out any future claims because only driver A would have had to inform them in order for them to find out about this incident. Driver B wouldn't have been able to initiate a conversation with driver A's insurance company as he's not the policy holder. so what benefit is this bringing driver A and his insurance company if the end goal of repairing driver B's vehicle has been achieved and the case is closed.??
  4. i can agree its stated in the terms and conditions of car insurance policy's but my questions was. What benefit does this bring driver A in informing his insurance company and what benefit does this bring to the insurance company if they have not had to fork out the funds on behalf of driver a to get driver B's car repaired??
  5. ok just trying to make a bit of sense out of this.. driver A bumped into driver B. both driver A admits their mistake and both driver A and driver B exchange details. driver A agrees to pay for damage caused to driver B they both sign a document agreeing this. driver B's car has now been repaired and he's back on the road. and my question is this, Why should driver A call up his insurance company to let them know he has crashed into driver B and have already paid out of his pocket to have driver B's car repaired?? what benefit does this bring driver A in informing his insurance company. and what benefit does this bring to the insurance company if they have not had to fork out the funds on behalf of driver A to get driver B's car repaired??
  6. add some liquid soap and vinegar into warm water, dip a cleaning cloth into it and run it through the tip of the blades a few times. this gets of the grease and dirt which sticks on the blades over a period of time. if you need new ones just get these bosch ones from ECP. 3 years on and its still serving me well http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Lexus_IS_3.0_2002/p/car-parts/car-body-parts-and-car-exhaust/wipers/wiper-blade/?485772050&1&5a34b6f4529995536a3dbed6285a0aba86bae18a&000604 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Lexus_IS_3.0_2002/p/car-parts/car-body-parts-and-car-exhaust/wipers/wiper-blade/?485771080&1&b2f2024fbe32fbb5835164f8731dd718b987f8a9&000604
  7. if i can remember there was the 250 sport model before the F-Sport model was introduced. the f-sport model does have f-sport logos on the side repeaters and steering wheel. maybe the seats do have f-sport etched on them aswell but someone else might need to confirm this. not sure if Lexus differentiated the suspension tuning between the older sport models and newer f-sport models in terms of setup maybe they did but it might take a pro to tell the difference between the two in terms of handling setup. the SR's do have body kits and larger rims but not sure if they got the sport suspension aswell. i would be surprised if they did as it would negate the point of having a sport model if the SR model had all the sport models specs. i believe gear ratios was the same for all 250 models so i wouldn't think the sport or f sport had aggressive gearing or LSD's.i have driven the 250 Auto before and its def a step up compared to the IS 200 in terms of performance and handling most say it on par with the IS300 but i recon the 300 edges it a little bit in some situations. to honest if you wanted some thing with more ommph and get up an go like the IS-F but not an IS-F you could opt for a 2010/11 GS430 or GS460 V8 they are about only a second down from 0-60 mph when compared to IS-F and 155mph is all one needs on the autobhan. these GS's do have active variable suspension setups so they can swith between a comfort drive when not in the mood and firmer ride when in the mood..
  8. this is a copy from the US IS-F's owners manual and as it says 96 RON or More.. so the standard 95RON is even underspec'd for this engine. it will still run fine on 95RON but not at its full capability since the knock sensors will cause the ECU to retard ignition timing and maybe engine mapping. by retarding ignition timing and mapping will result in the engine not running at its optimum. thing most forget is the fuel is not what makes the power the higher ron fuel just takes a bit longer to ignite when compared to a lower RON fuel. by the fuel holding off a bit longer causes the piston to give maximum compression without knocking which results in engine delivery its full potential when its put under load/stress in other words at higher rpm. but not any engine benefits from this a 1.2 fiesta will not since its not a tuned/performance engine but most tuned/performance engine do mainly high compression/turbo charges ones. I am aware some hot hatches like the golf GTI ,Honda Type R's/ S2000 states 98RON doesnt mean they wont run on 95 but they wont run at thier full potential.whilst sometimes even worser fuel economy due to the engine not running at its optimum. this is a copy and paste from wiki based on the AUDI RS4 "On 98 RON (93 AKI) Super-Unleaded petrol it produces 309 kilowatts (420 PS; 414 bhp) at 7,800 rpm [5] giving it a specific power output of 74.2 kW (100.9 PS; 99.5 bhp) per litre.[6] Based on a kerb weight of 1,680 kilograms (3,704 lb), this results in a power-to-weight ratio of 184 watts per kilogram. This engine also produces 430 newton metres (317 lbf·ft) of torque at 5,500 rpm,[5][6] 90 percent of the total torque being available between 2,250 and 7,600 rpm.[6] (Using lower 95 RON (91 AKI) standard unleaded fuel slightly reduces engine output, and therefore performance,[5] and slightly worsens fuel economy)"
  9. running at a high compression ratio of almost 12.0:1 i will say its worth it. heck my 10.5:1 compression IS300 runs sluggish and never responsive when running on standard 95 RON even in M sport mode. i chuck some Esso 97, BP ultimate or Shell V power in the thing and the difference is clear. you wont notice it right away but after a few fill ups i can tell the engine loosens up and revs more freely.. i know forums debates has been had with others claiming they cant tell no difference in N/A engines. i can tell the difference when mine is running on 95 shell fuel save vs V power Nitro. thing just takes long to hit redline in most gears on 95 but loosens up once on 97-99. not sure how many knock sensors are in the IS-F but i beleive the IS200-300 runs 3 knock sensors which proves the engines where designed to advance timing if higher RON fuel is used and retard timing once knock is detected from lower RON fuel. retardation of timing will casue the engine to do less work = less power/responsiveness. advanced timing does the opposite..
  10. Hi Bradly.. i think you meant to post in the IS220d section. any you could start off by asking you mechanic to do a full service thats if the car hasnt had one in the last 20k miles or minor service which is essentially an engine oil change and few checks if its not had one in the last 10k miles. from what i can gather turbo's do not like dirty engine oil that's for petrol cars not sure if its the same for diesel cars. common issues with the diesel IS's is headgasket failure so worth keeping and eye. you could ask your mechanic to do a gearbox fluid change too as part of the service but make sure right/recommended oil is used and not any cheapo.. apart from air , oil and cabin filters which needs changing as part of a full service, can think of any other filters. best to get your mechanice to do an inspection and take things from there..
  11. Hi Oliver.. welcome to the club.. any reason why you need to drive a manual in London's start stop traffic? IS250 as you already aware only the IS comes in manual box but i beleive tax is somewhere near £500 a year. the auto's do have manual mode which allows you to select the optimim gear you want to limit the car in. i.e if you select 3rd and come to a stop it will run through 1st, 2nd , 3rd and hold it there untill you shift up or back to 2nd if the speed permits it. performance wise not a lot in the manual vs automatic 250's any advantage is a manual will be more involving to drive. LS430 the 02 models dont come with manual modes in this is fully auto with sport mode button if you prefer more sharper throttle. being a V8 with almost 300bhp means you always have torque for any situation. its an LS so its bound to drive nice and refined but sporty maybe not. so if you looking for sporty this might not be it. but full luxury and refinement it is. GS300 this is a blend between IS and LS. and the 06 models do have manual shifting which does the same thing as the auto IS250's but the shifters are only done via gear nob not on steering wheel. not a lot of difference in mpg between 06 GS300 and IS250 but the GS's are more powerful low down due to inherent tourqe from the larger 3 litre compared to 2.5 litre in the 250. i believe 06 models upwards are high on road tax awell all models are bullet proof from what i gather but some guys on the US forums mention carbon build up issues on the IS250/GS300's not sure if this is common in UK models. worth considering the GS430 aswell whilst you at it as the sahre same engine as LS430 but meant to be more involving to drive compared the LS's. piston heads and maybe gumtree is also worth looking
  12. the GS is quicker but not by much depending on which year and model of the 350CDI you go for.. both models will have most toys you would need i.e. parking sensors, xenons, reverse camera, folding mirrors , DVD, CD,cup holders, cruise control, bluetooth, mp3?? unless one is quite fussy both models will have all one needs for thier driving pleasure. if you will be using the car for majority motorway journeys then 350CDI wins in terms of mpg..maybe 8-10mpg more. no difference in mpg for both model in town driving so one wont save much if they went diesel. Lexus is smooth refined and less noisy compared to some idling 2014 diesel's i have heard at the traffic lights. not a lot in it for road tax if one went 350cdi over 450h worth comparing servicing cost of both models thats if you will be using dealers petrol is cheaper than diesel at the pumps lexus is know for thier reliabilty of petrol/hybrid engines. how far DPF,turbo and injector issues on diesel models has improved over the years i cant tell but these three are well know common issues on diesel cars. Lexus is exclusive on the roads Merc is not they are every where. check if the boot space on the GS450h will be enough for your needs as its smaller for some. if you ask me i'll say test drive both and decision is yours to make ...as all cars have something they lack when compared to another competitor but will all boil down to which faults you can live with.
  13. Not compared to a GS though, the GS should definitely feels slower based on refinement and a higher level of disengagement from the road. The GS is pretty quick off the line and at low speeds. It essentially has a 2 speed transmission together with the CVT so when it is in the low gear the acceleration is impressive for the amount of power it has available. I agree besides the level of disengagement from the road, i recon pound for pound the GS450h is a fine automobile. if one factors in things like performance, mpg, road tax, practicality..as an everyday car with sprint performance under 6 secs i would have a GS450h.. but one gota love the sound of the IS-F V8 on full throttle.. why does any one need Takeda intake and exhaust lol these F's sound ridiculous even in stock form stick it in Sport M mode and be gone lol
  14. GS450h produces instant torque at relatively low speeds from the batteries so long it has full charge i believe it can discharge it at relatively any speed. i guess thats why you can plant your foot at lower speeds and the GS takes off having a CVT transmision might also contribute to this since there are no flat spots like a normal transmission might have when gears are changed. .. with the IS-F not having batteries to give it that instant shove when you plant your foot at lower rpm might give the sensation of being sluggish at lower rpm but based on performance figures of both cars the IS-F might not be as sluggish as you might think. for starters it generates more torrque than the 450h battery and engine. and most VVT-i engines are capable of generating 80-90% of their overall torque from around 1500rpm lets just say the enigine makes 80% of its overall torque at 1500rpm thats still 400NM of torque which is still higher than what the GS450h's battery discharges on its own at lower speeds. if 90% OF 500NM of the tourque comes in at when the secondary valves open to allow more air which i believe is 3600rpm thats makes it 450NM being generated by the engine. so long as the right gear has been selected at lower speeds/rpm in M mode, the IS-F will out accelerate the GS450h in pretty much any situation..you might not feel it as much but you are accelerating pretty quickly.. if it does 0-60mph in around the 4.6 sec mark then the torque is there at lower rpm.. :)
  15. mmh is Lexus quality slipping these days that your OE exhaust only lasted 6 years..if so that's bad.. most exhausts systems last at least 10 years if one does not live near the coast of course.. most aftermarket exhast system either lack internal design in terms of resonator design which cancels out noise during cruising or most choose not to add resonators which reduces back pressure thus improving top end performance but sacrifice comfort in terms of sound due to being free flowing.. the center box is your resonator but how well its designed to cancel out noise i wont know so best to take it to the shop who fitted for some advice but not sure how much they can do to help if its designed to be free flowing exhaust.
  16. Just saw this ad.. very nice example looks like it just rolled out of Japan factory and worth every penny.. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201411169027290/sort/default/usedcars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/page/1/model/ls_400/postcode/mk160ay/radius/200/make/lexus?logcode=p
  17. if there are 3 seat belts at the back then its a 5 seat. if only two seat belts then its a 4 seat.
  18. I must admit I do like the handsome looks of those Jag XJ's and their performance is up there as well but brake pipes and bonnet switches on a 7 year old car? that's bad build quality but I suppose you always have a grin on your face when you put your foot down to hear that supercharged V8 engine :).
  19. before you start throwing money at it best to take it back to the dealers for further investigation or alternately take it to an automatic transmission specialist near you for diagnosis.
  20. Hi Geoff, i would say go and test drive one and make up your own mind about an IS300h. when it comes to noise levels and performance of a car, its comes down to individual taste. what one might find noisy another might not. same applies to performance one might find a car slow whilst another might find it adequate for all their driving needs. And not sure why people were comparing a 335i and 135i's to the IS300h. for starters the IS300h is not in that league and has to be compared to a 325d. yes on paper a 2014 325d M sport 214bhp cost about the same as an IS300h F-sport around the £35,000 mark both return around 60mpg on combined cycle so we can all agree this model is the best BMW to make a comparison with? yes the 325d is lighter around 120kg lighter(this is a lot of weight) than the F-Sport and which translates to it being quicker and with more top speed but thats where it ends as i wont for one sec think a BMW diesel will be more refined than a Lexus petrol so if a driver prefers to have a nice relaxed quite cabin on thier day to day driving then for sure the 300h beats any BMW diesel. road tax also cost £10 for the year for the 300h whilst the 325d is £110 for the year. again £100 saving for 300h driver. other things like reliability hasn't been thrown in but even my dog knows a Lexus is and will be more reliable than a BMW. but saying that, it all depends on how an owner looks after their vehicle. so a decision for one to choose a 300h over 325d or vice versa will all depend on what one puts as a priority in their car. they both cost about the same so if refinement, reliability and road tax is a prioty then IS300h beats an equivalent BMW and if performance is a priority the the BMW beats an equivalently priced IS300h. all boils down to what an individual wants form their car. And yes there is a Lexus which can be compared to a BMW 335i but sadly its not available in the UK. everyone knows its the IS350 since they cost about the same, they both make around the same HP and have around the same 0-60mph and top speed in stock form so not sure why a 3 litre twin turbo 310bhp was being compared to a 2.5litre 4 cylinder 220 bhp hybrid??
  21. wow you getting the godzilla in feb? thats a monster :) . check how much your insurance will be on the godzilla before you buy one as insurance companies try hard not to let a 23 year old near a car which can be tuned in excess of 1000bhp . but i must admit your insurance is quite low for the car you have as i was paying aroud 1500 for a 1.2 litre 70bhp clio when i was at your age lol's.. but yeh a supercharger will complement your mods nicely as theres no point having all the show and no go..
  22. impressive Joel. cant wait to see the engine swap or supercharger thread :winky: . bet your insurance has now sky-rocketed after all these mods..
  23. dont know about you guys but i recon the OEM headunit and speakers in the IS is the best i have heard in terms of 'quality' clear sound. when i say quality i dont mean listening to music through the unit and speakers at its loudest. in my car 'pimping' days i was running high end SONY headunit with 4 channel German made amp which handless a peak sound output of 1500 watts and a big sub woofer in the boot yes i was one of those you can hear a mile away with loud music thumping out of thier pimped cars lol and the sound quality i get from the stock OEM headunit and speakers beats my 1500 watts amp sub and pioneer speakers. infact it was good i never bothered to fit the units in my IS and sold them on ebay. my mate was also running Alpine units in his car and the sound quality from the Lex beats his aswell. so i recon you will need a very good brand head unit to match the sound quality of the OEM unit.
  24. Try disconnecting and reconnecting your battery. hit the eject button once battery is reconnected and ignition on. This fixed mine. But it happened again after i inserted a copied cd. I left it a couple of weeks and resulted to listening to radio for a while. I pressed the eject one morning and out came all 6 cd,s and i haven't had this problem ever since. Either the unit fixed itself or i got lucky.
  25. the driver got soo intrigued by how much mpg he is extracting from the hybrid system, he forgot all about the road . ok jokes aside that driver would have been doing some serious speed in excess of 70+ to get the car in the state its in he was surely not doing 30mph..
