  1. I haven't got any areas to avoid set so don't thin k it could be this James.
  2. I guess I'd better visit a few more pubs then. All in the name of research! :-)
  3. Don't know When I use sat nav they're on the route that I'm travelling on and also on the opposite carriageway. They're like tiny little circles. When I first noticed them thought they were to do with density of traffic but they don't seem to have any correlation to what I can see out the window!
  4. I'm also intrigued about what the dots on the road on the sat nav mean. Didn't get them on the IS.
  5. I've saved some new locations in memory and a couple of them have a strange symbol next to them. Can't see anything in the manual. Does anyone have any idea what they mean? Have attached a picture. Thanks.
  6. I find it useful sometimes putting it in d2 or d3 when driving in traffic that's travelling at 20-30mph. I find I don't need to keep braking as just lifting off the accelerator slows me down enough.
  7. I agree. I was very fussy over spec and both interior and exterior colour. We were lucky that we popped into the dealer the day we did. I think we paid a bit over the odds but don't regret it at all.
  8. Actually planned on getting an IS 300h but they didn't have one in the spec I wanted. Saw the GS took it for a spin and was smitten!
  9. Right, I’ve now had the GS for 6 weeks and have done just over 2,000 miles. I thought I’d do a comparison between my old IS (previously my favourite car) and the GS. What can I say? Well, in almost every respect the GS is better! One thing I thought I’d miss would be the IS’s mid range torque which made for quick overtaking. Don’t miss it at all. Although I spend most of the time pootling around in Eco mode a quick right of the dial to Sport gives me plenty of power to rapidly pull away from those Audi tailgaters! There’s no point me making a bit by bit comparison because as mentioned the GS is better in every respect. Therefore thought I’d concentrate on the negatives. This took a lot of thinking. There are only two things I miss about the IS. The first is the lights that light up around the speedo and rev counter when you reach a certain speed/rev. However, I can live without that as the HUD more than compensates. The other thing I miss is the TA button on the dash where I could just quickly switch traffic announcements on and off as required. Just wish the GS had the same rather than having to go through the menus to do what should be an easy thing. However, I think I can live without that! Am a very happy chappy and glad I made the change. The GS is now my favourite car. PS Also managed to break the 50 mpg barrier during my last tank of petrol. Was lucky to get 40 on the IS!
  10. Thanks Jay, will give your tips a go. I must admit that the GS does encourage me to waft around at a relaxing pace. My boy racer days were well and truly over years ago! I find keeping a big gap between me and the car in front makes for a much more stress free drive.
  11. Same Lexus route as me and same thoughts re: best car! Mine did more miles than yours (101,000 in 9 years) and I did have both the EGR and DPF replaced between 80 and 90K. Both done under extended warranty. Other than that it was faultless and inside looked as fresh when I sold it as when it left the showroom. Planned on getting an IS 300h and ended up with the GS!
  12. Well, I’ve had the car for a few weeks now and am interested in what others are getting? My overall average so far is 48.2mpg. The latest tank average since refuelling is 49.7mpg. Not bad for a big 2.5 litre car. My IS 220d was averaging 38.6mpg, with a max of around 42mpg on a long run! I’ve not yet seen 50mpg but it did climb to 49.9mpg the other day. How do I break the 50 barrier? Any tips? I spend most of my time in Eco Mode regardless of the traffic situation. The handbook says that I should use Normal most of the time and Eco in stop start traffic. What do others do? Cheers, Alan
  13. So I guess it's only picking up fixed cameras and not mobile units?
  14. Does anyone know of a shortcut to turn on TA's? I've got it set up so I get them and can turn them of by pressing the media button. I'm not happy with this as I like to have it turned off most of the time (so that it doesn't interfere with my music) and only turn it on when I get stuck in traffic. On my old IS there was a button on the dash that I could press when needed. Seems a bit of a rigmarole to have to go to radio settings to turn it on!
  15. From one pedant to another gas is GS but crappy auto text thingy, but it is a gas to drive. As for the IS I had a second generation and was looking for the third. The fourth I believe would need a time machine! 😀
  16. Thanks for the thanks Vince but I can't really take the credit. Adapted someone elses method, just added step 11 after it didn't work first time for me! I was after a third generation IS but took a GAS for a test drive and was smitten. Highly recommended.
  17. But which ones can we change that it says must be done by the dealer such as the lane change one?
  18. I managed to change the number of flashes on the lane change function thanks to advice on this forum. It got me thinking. What else can be done? Anyone found any other secrets?
  19. Thanks capese21. Checked your link and managed to do it. There's a couple of methods on there, essentially the same but this was the clearest. I've added step 11as it didn't work first time till I switched the power off then on again before testing. 1. Start with the car completely off. 2. Use the rotary **** on the wiper control to set how many blinks you want. This **** has four positions: - 1st (bottom) position = 3 blinks - 2nd position = 5 blinks - 3rd position = 7 blinks - 4th (top) position = no automatic blinks 3. Hold the wiper lever in the all-the-way-up position, and keep holding it there 4. With foot OFF brake pedal, press the start button twice so the gauges light up (keep holding that wiper lever up!) 5. Continue to hold the wiper lever all the way up for a count of 8 or more (if you go too fast you will have to start all over!) 6. Let the wiper lever come down one position and hold it there for a count of 8 (don't let it go back to the middle, just let it come down one position) 7. Hold with wiper lever all the way up again for another count of 8 8. Let with wiper lever come down one position again, and hold it for a count of 8 9. Let go of the wiper lever. The right turn signal should flash once. If it doesn't, turn the car off and start again at step 1. 10. Briefly move the turn signal lever down 1 position and let go of it again. The left turn signal should flash to confirm your setting, but not in the way you might expect. It will blink 1, 2, 3, or 4 times to match where you set the rotary **** on the wiper control, so: - 1 flash = set for 3 blinks - 2 flashes = set for 5 blinks - 3 flashes = set for 7 blinks - 4 flashes = no auto blinks 11. Turn power OFF, then turn on again and test.
  20. Thanks Brian. If it's there there must be a way to turn it on and off. In France it's illegal to have a speed camera detector!
  21. Thanks capese21 will give that a go tomorrow when the beers have worn off! But why do they make something that should be so simple so complicated?
  22. I wanted to change the 3 flash indicator thing to 5 flashes and noticed that it has to be done by a dealer so I asked the dealer to it and they said it would take about 3 hours and cost about 90 quid! Does that sound right and has anyone had it done? Surely it should just have been something they could have put in the car settings?
