  1. I agree entirely. It's also quite funny how the motoring press bang on about how much better the BMW is on the limit. How many of us drive our cars on the limit? I found that both my IS and GS were/are more than adequate in every day driving. Both handle really well and can be fun when pressed. I particularly like the fact that the ecvt has the smoothest drive of any car I've had during normal driving and makes me feel totally relaxed. I had a great time earlier in the year driving around Scotland and the GS handled sublimely whether in normal or S+ mode. Also there's no hesitation when pulling away quickly at roundabouts so I never feel stressed unlike my experience in the Merc!
  2. I noticed that with the German manufacturers. The list price looks good until you start adding the options which come standard with Lexus. I like the way they have just four trim levels and you know what you're getting.
  3. Exactly! Fortunately I had an extended warranty so didn't cost me anything. Fortunately also it was my wife who had the car on both breakdowns so didn't cost me any time either! She weren't so happy though......... It's interesting because when the Mk 3 IS came out without a diesel I thought it might make me change from Lexus because then I was well happy with my IS and was not aware of the EGR and DPF problems that would later arise. However, I much prefer the hybrid now. One thing I really liked abut the 220d was the mid range punch from the torque which was great for overtaking and pulling away from tailgating Audis and BMWs. All I need to do now is whack it in S or S+ mode and the jobs done! And I just love the smoothness of the eCVT box. It gets lots of criticism from the motoring press which I just don't understand. The Mercedes I drove was an auto which was very notchy and never seemed to be in the right gear. No problems with the GS on those grounds.
  4. Interesting read. After a couple of breakdowns in my IS 220d I was thinking it's time for a change. Thanks to Lexus extended warranty I ended up with a Jaguar xs and a Mercedes c class. Two cars that I was thinking about as a replacement. I was disappointed with both. The Jag was great to drive but didn't feel 'special'. The Merc was really disappointing quality wise. Ended up with a GS! Although I had a few issues with the IS it was diesel that was the problem, not Lexus. I am surprised about how few are on the road compared to BMW, audi, Mercedes etc. Most people seem to be more concerned about the badge than the quantity of what they're driving. The GS is sublime and a definite step up in quality and driving experience.
  5. I occasionally use the flappy paddles on my GS to slow down but have noticed that recharging is less than when using the brakes. However, the flappy paddles feel more 'realistic' and similar to driving a manual.
  6. I've been switching between low and high to see if I can notice any difference yet to no avail!
  7. Is it just me that thinks the concept of having a service after a certain number of miles is a bit daft? Even though my odometer may have moved 10,000 forward since the last service the engine hasn't been running all that time! Surely it would be better to have a service after a certain number of hours of running instead? Am sure that the technology could cope with that!
  8. Mine are useless too. What are they there for? I reckon it's a design fault. Will be taking mine in for a service soon so will ask them to fix it under warranty. I'll be interested in their response. My wife's 08 Honda Jazz work perfectly!
  9. That kind of makes sense and the adjustment could be sensitivity. Roll on a nice cold winter so I can test that theory!
  10. I guess it's something like that but I can't notice any difference with the settings!
  11. Hi all, I've been playing with my settings and can't for the life of me work out what these do! Please see pic. Any ideas? Thanks Alan
  12. That's a shame Norman. Love is a funny old thing! I moved into the Lexus world from a Volvo which I absolutely adored and was sad to see go. I bought an IS220d which took me a good 6 months including a long drive around Europe after which I was in love. 6 years and around 80,000 miles later it was time to say a sad farewell to the old girl. Traded her in for a younger and more buxom GS and thought it would take a while to get over the old love. However, she was quickly forgotten the love blossomed quickly with the new gal. Two days after getting her we spend a long week in France and I was well smitten. Hardly think of the IS now and am truly in love with her replacement. As I said, love is a funny old thing!
  13. I agree. Nothing wrong with the inside lane of the motorway. Motorway driving can never be called fun anyway. That's what windy A and B roads are for. I also like the challenge of beating my average mpg figures. The joy of a Lexus for me is the air of contentment it gives me. You don't get that in a small hatchback.
  14. Wise man!
  15. I'd rather be outside polishing the car than vacuuming or helping with the laundry!
  16. Well, I think I've earned that beer, once I've done the inside of course!
  17. You sound like my wife!
  18. To be honest I haven't actually finished. Still got the roof and back bumper to do. Was planning on finishing it tomorrow. Should I bother or would I be better off sitting in the garden with a cold beer?
  19. Washed with mer shampoo, polished with autoglym super resin polish and finished it off with bilt hamber double speed wax. Looks lovely but took ages!
  20. Everything is cold to the touch this summer!
  21. Du ska försöka Volvo-systemet. Bra när du äntligen jobbat ut det, men då glömmer du hur du gör det nästa gång. Då har det vana att återgå till svenska!
  22. Update - sorry James you are correct. Just went and checked and it works if I press it twice quickly. On the IS I seemed to have more time between presses.
  23. That's how mine worked on the IS but I don't get the second locking sound on the GS. There's no mention of it in the handbook either. The bit that says "check that the door is securely locked" always makes me smile. How am I supposed to do that? As soon as I grab the handle to check, it unlocks!
  24. I had it on my old IS but disabled it as prefer to keep it unlocked when driving. Not many carjackings down my neck of the woods! Mine doesn't seem to have double locking. Is that on the newer models?
