  1. Thanks for your input Linas. I think you are right about the subjectivity of ‘comfort’. I am well out of my boy racer years and love the relaxed comfort of the GS and cannot think of a better car to replace it. I’m still toying with the idea of keeping it. However, our other trusty steed, a 2008 Honda Jazz, has finally decided to stop playing ball and is destined for the scrap yard. I retired five years ago and my wife works from home most of the time with occasional visits to her office, two hours away, and site visits around the country. The GS is perfect for these trips and occasional social weekends away, whilst the Jazz was perfect for shopping trips, trips to the dump and other short journeys as required. But we’re finding it difficult now to justify having two cars with the extra costs of tax, insurance, mots etc hence the thought of replacing the GS I think you’re correct about an RX being a better replacement for the GS than an NX. We live in the sticks surrounded by narrow lanes so need a smaller car which can be comfortably used for the occasional long journeys as well as daily use. This is the thinking behind trading in for an NX.
  2. Thanks. Before Lexus went to takumi was the premier the top of the range NX? I fear you may be right about the comfort. The GS is superb and it will be greatly missed.
  3. Hi all, We are thinking of trading in our 2014 GS 300h Premier for a two to three year old NX. I am having trouble finding a true valuation on line for the GS. It’s done 76000 miles and is in very good condition with full Lexus service history. Also due to it being a Premier we have got used to the luxury and quality and its many comforts and don’t want to rough it too much! I am not sure what the top spec model of NX was two or three years back. There seems to be a nice one at Lexus Hedge End which is a premium plus pack. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304226560200?advertising-location=at_cars&atmobcid=soc5&fromsra&include-delivery-option=on&make=Lexus&model=NX 300h&sort=relevance Is this likely to give us the comfort and kit we have become accustomed to? And is it a good price? I love the colour and interior combination as it is what our GS has. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. I originally posted this in car care and detailing but have had no response so decided to try here. The cloth trim on the b pillar of my 2014 GS300h has begun to unstick. Has anyone else had this problem or knows how I can repair it? Thanks

  6. This is indeed very sad news. I shared John’s passion for rtfm. Will miss his love and passion for his car and his wisdom that he shared. Condolences to his family and friends. He obviously enjoyed life and hope he finds his dream car up north!
  7. Have recently been watching a few police ‘reality’ programmes on tv such as motorway cops and police interceptors. All respect to some of the police but am shocked by how little the courts fine some people who are obviously pretty dodgy! Am I alone in thinking this and find it’s not surprising that the number of motoring offences from theft and dangerous driving is increasing?
  8. My extended warranty taken out a couple of years back runs out on the 23rd of this month. This will then be superseded by the relax one. Unfortunately, the relax warranty doesn’t include LRA. Lexus charge £155 for a year’s cover. I know that LRA is actually AA cover so thought I see how much exactly the same cover would cost directly through the AA. They quoted me £280! Needless to say I’ve renewed it through Lexus. Another benefit of the old extended warranty was that it included free MOT. Unfortunately my local Lexus dealer can’t fit me in until 30th March which is after my LEW runs out. However, they have told me that they will waive the MOT cost. Hats off to Lexus Lincoln!

  10. Indeed. I’m old school so have always called it a transmission tunnel!
  11. I was thinking of trading in my 2014 GS300H premier in for an ES but after a test drive I found the interior quality of the ES below par. It didn’t look as classy as the GS and there were to many hard plastics, most notably on the side of the transmission tunnel. Also the door cards felt cheap. I can’t find anything suitable which feels as nice inside as the GS so looks like I’ll be happily stuck with it for a few more years!
  12. All very painless. Took an hour and yes had to remove rear seat squab.
  13. Just had a call from Lexus Lincoln to say they have the part in and to confirm tomorrow’s appointment. I mentioned that I have just over 1/4 tank and they said they could still do it as long as it is less than 1/2. Will update later regarding how long it takes and what has to be removed.
  14. Have mine booked in for next Tuesday. Am intrigued how they will do it. Said it should take about three hours.
  15. The disclaimer is interesting!
  16. ‘Fit for purpose’ is important. I once bought a car and two days later it overheated and I discovered no water in the cooling system. It turned out to be a leak in the heater matrix. I researched about consumer rights and rejected the car saying that it was unfit for purpose quoting the consumer act. They realised that I was no fool and refunded me in full and returned the car I traded in. They didn’t even offer to repair it!

  18. I’m surprised that there is actually a button to press. On my 2014 gs I only have to put my hand behind the handle for the door to unlock. No button to press or freeze!
  19. And she had an affair with John Major. Enough said!
  20. For all the cars I’ve bought from dealers I have always asked for a handbook whilst the car is being prepared for handover. By the time I collect the car I have read it!
  21. Bizarrely they started working on the way to the dealer! Was told that it takes time for them to register a pressure as apparently they monitor rotation and abs. Was also told that the quickest way of resetting them is to drive in a figure of eight for about 10 minutes!
  22. But for all four to fail simultaneously after a tyre change is surely more than coincidental?
  23. A couple of weeks ago I had four new tyres fitted at my local Lexus dealer. Since then the display does not show the pressures. I have tried the reset via the contortionist button a couple of times to no avail. Am taking it back to the dealer tomorrow for them to take a look. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I don’t want to be fobbed off by them saying it’s a wear and tear issue not covered by warranty. Thanks.
  24. My dealer wanted to charge me £12 to change the battery on my GS. Bought four Duracell off the internet for £3.99!
  25. Eco mode is great in stop start traffic or on motorways with average speed cameras in roadworks where brief acceleration is not desired or required. Gives a much more relaxing drive!
