  1. Oddly, in the USA the official Lexus MPG is 32MPG for the NX300h and 24MPG for the NX300t. So in that country Lexus have to tell the truth, I think by law they have to be accurate, not like here where Lexus and other manufacturers test cars under perfect conditions with no air con etc on which is nonsense.. Not sure why the UK government still do no not do something about it, as it is clear that the true MPG is nowhere near what they claim the cars will do. Why not just come clean and tell the truth? So in the USA most buyers are very happy that when they buy a NX300h and find they are getting 35-40MPG, which has turned into a very positive selling point for the car, unlike here where buyers, not realising the claimed figures are well off true MPG, get a bit cheesed off. Come on Lexus, if you can produce true MPG for the USA, why not do it here. Be one of the first in the UK to be honest with your customers rather than hoodwink them. Lexus continue to be voted the best dealerships in the UK, they make great cars, so why let yourself down with this blatant manipulation of the so called government figures. I myself do know the true MPG, so it is not a big issue with me, but I know some unsuspecting buyers are not happy when they do find out the true MPG, surely it is better to be more accurate. Or am I alone in thinking this?

  6. The wireless charger does not work with Apple phones, but I did hear you can buy a case for the iPhone that will make it compatible. Anyone know where to buy one, or what it is called? Quote from Lexus: Some mobile phones which are not compatible (e.g. Apple iPhones) can be fitted with compatible wireless charging covers, available from numerous online retailers.
  7. What's the basic Sat Nav like? Not the Premium one, the basic one you buy for models below the Premier. I have read that it is not that easy to use. It's not the touch pad is it, it's a rotary knob?

  9. Autoglym is great, so you have the good stuff. I would wash the car with the shampoo & conditioner. Then Super Resin Polish. Then Aquawax. The car will look brilliant.
  10. Ahhh I see. Yes, my CT does that, although being hard of hearing I don't hear it much, if at all. :) Yes, it does go up hills fine.
  11. I've watched lot's of reviews on You Tube, but so far none have come up with the problem of driving up hills, even the USA and Canada reviews. I would have thought that if it was that bad it would have showed up somewhere by now. I have watched about two dozen.
  12. That is a great shame. I live in Hampshire, so not many steep hills here thankfully. Odd when you think about it, the car being made in Japan where it is very hilly, you would have thought that they would have noticed that.
  13. I agree, a plug in NX would be brilliant. It will come, but not for a while yet methinks. More and more saloon plug in's are now becoming available, it's only a matter of time before we see more SUV's. I would definitely be up for one of those. You never know, the Toyota Prius plug in is doing quite well I think.
  14. Yes, I did consider a plug in, but within my price range it was only really the Mitsuish Phev that was a possibility. I was put off by the looks, a bit square and boring in my opinion, a basic interior with too much cheap looking plastic, and my local dealership looked a right mess. the only person in the showroom looked like a cleaning lady and although I was there quite a time I was not approached. Okay I could have gone elsewhere but by then I had seen enough to put me off. I should have at least test driven one I suppose, but it just did not fit into the premium brand I was looking for. I do like a bit of luxury and that did kick into touch quite a few before I even got started. :)
  15. Without checking them all I think they are all diesels. I would have thought any petrol engine big enough to power a large SUV would need to be at least 2.0 or more and would most likely not get above 30mpg. Am I not right in thinking that? The hybrid system improves the MPG so that it gets close to what diesels achieve but without a noisy diesel engine. I think if anyone does a lot of long distance driving a diesel is probably the better choice, but anyone who does mostly short journeys (like me) are better off with a petrol. I have never liked diesels, and 90% of my journeys are 15-20 minutes, so a diesel is not a sensible buy. Yes, the 35MPG is still disappointing, i would have liked to be assured of 40+ as my current CT achieves an average of 46MPG (well down on the claimed 69MPG) so I would not like it to be 10MPG less, but I don't think over a year it would make a huge difference to me if it was. I still hope to get nearer 40, but only time will tell. It is a hard choice. I did look at, and drive, several diesels, but they all seemed so noisy compared to a hybrid. P.S. Having checked, large petrol SUV's are a rare breed. the Audi Q5 2.0 petrol has a real life MPG of 28.5. I think the 200t is going to be similar to that isn't it?
  16. I am not sure we should be making too much of the MPG. We all know the 'claimed' figures issued by all car makers are rubbish. They are all guilty of manipulating the system, something that should be stopped but the government seem to be taking forever to do something about it. Lexus are more guilty than some others, but they all get away with blatant lying and will do so until forced into telling the truth. Honest John has the NX down as 34.3mpg. I think many are now achieving closer to 40, but we'll see. If you look at what other SUV's of similar engine size etc do it makes interesting reading. Landrover Sport 33.0 Freeland II 34.2 Evoque 34.5 BMW X3 39.6 BMW X5 32.2 Audi Q5 34.3 Mitsubishi Outlander 40.1 Volvo XC90 30.6 Skoda yeti 4x4 Auto 41.1 Kia Sportage 2.0 Auto 29.3 Nissan X-Trail 43.1 So you see, most are about the same. If you want better MPG go for a saloon or hatchback, but in SUV form, with the extra weight you will most likely not get over 40mpg.
  17. I have ordered a new NX, but I can't decide if I want Sat Nav or not. I doubt very much I will use it much, probably a couple of times a month at best, so I was thinking I may as well just buy a good TomTom instead, as it would only cost me £160 rather than £995. The TomTom also has lifetime updates which is not available on any Lexus SatNav's and I understand they are about £150 each year. I do think car manufacturers are taking the mickey out of buyers charging so much. There excuse is the have to pay a third party so make nothing on it themselves. Not sure about that myself. I do know having SatNav will make the car more salable in the future if I ever did sell it, but I intend to keep it long term (5-10 years, so it's not an issue. Anyway, has anyone got any advice. Is the Lexus SatNav really worth the money you have to pay?
  18. Congrats. I have ordered the same Luxury and colour but with panoramic roof. It looks brilliant I have to say. I hope you enjoy it, I am sure you will. Report back after a few good runs. Mine due in Sept, but I have a feeling it may be longer than that. I agree, the Luxury does seem to be the best to go for, especially if you want the softer ride. I do like the look of the Sport, but the sport suspension put me off. I saw my first NX today, parked at my local sports centre. I had to do a double take. lol
  19. Further to the above. If I do not go with Sat Nav I will buy a decent TomTom. I think for about £200 you can get a nice one. But, another thing the salesman has tried to sell me is the car waxing they do for £500. I have to say it is nice to have it done, but at £500 it's a bit steep. I think you can have it done privately for about half that, or I can do it myself for about £50. If I did not have that done and did not buy the TomTom, I am nealy at the cost of Sat Nav anyway. Thoughts?
  20. I have ordered a panoramic roof. It feels like you are in a convertible without the wind. :) I personally do like the brighter interior you get with that. there is a blind to pull if you want it dark. I feel it is quite good value as it will be used whenever I am in the car, unlike Sat Nav which is the same price but I would rarely use. I am still considering that, as although I would rarely use it I think it is nice to have.
  21. Reasons to buy a NX Stunning looks. It is the best looking medium sized SUV out there right now. Build Quality. The NX has just been voted number 1 in the Auto Express Power Survey. Enough said. Reliability. Voted number 2 in the same survey. It's a Lexus and we all know they build cars to last. Seat Comfort. Lexus build the best seats, as good as, or better then Volvo. In Car Tech. Up there with the best even without Sat Nav. Luxury. The interior beats anything in its class. BMW and Audi are nice too but they still lag behind Lexus. The leather used in the Luxury, F Sport and Premier models is excellent quality, better than other leading brands. Quiet. When in EV mode it is silent other than road noise. In petrol mode it is still quite quiet unless you drive aggressively then the engine can wine a bit. But certainly no diesel engine noise to spoil your enjoyment. Low emissions, 116g/km if you go for the two-wheel-drive model, 121g/km with four-wheel drive. So no road tax and free of (London) congestion charge. Lot's of kit included, unlike a BMW where the extras can push the final price up a huge amount. Feel Good Factor. Just sit in a NX and it feels a very nice place to be. Practical. A fair size boot which is even bigger with the seats folded down. Not class leading, due to space for a spare wheel, but certainly enough for most users. In fact the spare wheel is a bonus that many other SUV's don't have. High riding driving position. It's an SUV so the seat height is great for those who don't like bending to get in and out and also like to see over other cars. Best dealerships in the business. They treat you like royalty. Things that could be improved. The ride quality is good, but not class leading and still a long way behind Range Rover levels. Performance. Most will find the engine has plenty of poke, but to get the best out of it you need to drive aggressively which will impact on mpg. MPG is not bad for a car of this size, but it could be better. Quoted figures of 56.5 mpg are not achievable. Real life MPG is 35-40 so slightly less than a similar sized car with a noisy diesel engine. Basic Sat Nav at £995 is quite high. Most other manufactures now do it for half that price. Reasons not to buy a NX If money is tight then a Nissan Qashqai is a nice car for a lot less. Just don't expect the build quality, reliability and levels of luxury to be comparable. Or a Skoda Yeti which will be reliable, but looks like a box on wheels. Want something bigger? Try a Lexus RX. Want a plug-in electric. Go for a Mitchibishi Outlander Phev. Nowhere near as plush, and a bit boxy, but the first 30 or so miles are on electric, so for short journeys it is ideal. Want to go off-road a lot. The NX is four wheel drive, except for the 'S' version, but is not a true off-roader. If you want something to do serious off-roading it would be best to go for a Range Rover Discovery. But it is a big car and a lot more expensive to buy and run. Also reliability is an issue. All this is just my opinion of course.
  22. Although MPG is important, unless you do a very high mileage I am not sure it is a deal breaker. Currently I get about 48 mpg from my CT. When I take delivery of my new NX I am expecting to achieve about 35-38, so about a 21-25% reduction. So my annual cost or fuel will increase by that amount, which should be about £300-£360, averaging £25-£30 per month, maybe slightly more, but not a silly increase. To be honest that would not present me with a problem. As I said at the start, if my mileage was twice what it is now, or even higher then yes, it would become more of an issue, but on low mileage owners it may only increase the total ownership cost over 10 years of something like 3-5%. I bet someone out there will do a full cost breakdown on total ownership costs on cars that do 36 mpg and 48 mpg.
  23. I went for the Luxury. I liked the look of the Sport, but I did not want the sport suspension, I prefer a softer ride. The Premier was just out of my budget to be honest, just a step too far.
  24. In the USA, the t is much cheaper than the h. Odd that. Although I do know the spec over here may well have done that.
