  1. I do some very short journeys sometimes, probably in the car for 5-8 minutes depending on traffic. The car has not even warmed up when I park and stop the engine again. On those very short trips I rarely get above 30mpg, my average being about 28.

  3. Sold mine two weeks ago after 4.5 years of faithful service, but roughly it would be: MPG @ 30 MPH - 60 MPG @ 50 MPH - 55 MPG @ 60 MPH - 50 MPG @ 70 MPH - 47 MPG @ 80 MPH - 45 Most economic at speeds of 30-50, long motorways journeys at 70+ is much less as you can see.
  4. Did a 75 mile motorway/'A' road trip the other day. About half was at 40/50 mph speed restrictions due to roadworks. Achieved 40mpg. Coming back was 37mpg as less was speed restricted. I appear to be getting 33-37 on average for local driving, the lower mpg being for the shorter trips.

  6. I really like the idea of a plug in. Had there been a NX plug in I would have had one without any doubt at all. I did write to Lexus just to see if there were any plans for one, but there is nothing on the horizon. That is the future of cars, so I am sure it won't be long before we all have one. A plug in that only does 30+ miles before the petrol takes over would do. Of course Tezla look interesting, but a tad pricey right now.
  7. Much like DJP said. I did try a lot of cars and SUV's. After a while I decided sitting higher up was what I wanted, easier to get in and out as well, + easy to get grandchildren in and out. So on the SUV front I did try the BMW X3 but did not want Diesel. It is also a bit boxy. I also tried a Audi Q3 1.4 petrol, but the styling is boring, it is not as reliable and the spec was not as good. Most of the others had too much cheap plastic. The Mitsubishi Phev was so cheap looking inside it put me right off, so I didn't even test drive it. So for great styling, a truly luxury interior, superb seats, reliability, practicality, reasonable MPG for a big car (forget 54mpg, real world is 32-38+, which compares to other SUV's) there really was nothing else. Easy really. :)
  8. As it happens I am acutely deaf, so although I have some hearing, it is poor, so I don't hear the engine much at all. So you could have a point there. :)
  9. Had it two weeks now. 500 miles, all types of roads. So time for a quick update. Drives like a dream. I do not find it under powered at all, or maybe I am not the boy racer I once was, or maybe never was. Okay, I have not had a fully laden going up a hill, but there seems plenty enough power for me. In fact I even find eco mode is better than I expected, unlike my old CT in eco mode which was a bit sluggish. Only once had it in sport mode to overtake, which was great, but to be honest I don't think it needs it, it is fine in normal mode. Ride is great. Much softer than my previous CT and no body roll, not that I have noticed anyway. Crunched into a huge pothole and had some serious body roll then, but I think any car would have been the same. I'll try more pot-holy roads soon. So far I am averaging 34mpg. 30 on short trips and 38 on longer ones. Early days though. Seats are extremely comfortable, the driving position is really good, quiet cabin (even with panoramic roof). In fact everything seems perfect. Only small gripe is how the dirt seems to collect at the bottom (inside) of the doors for some reason. I do wish the side mirrors dipped when reversing. I also wish it had powered seats. Neither are an option on a Luxury. I will do a full report after a month or so.

  11. Before you read this. This is just my opinion, which you may or may not agree with. Lexus CT200h Petrol/Hybrid. Style. ***** Interior and Comfort. ***** Practicality and boot space. **** Engines, and performance. **** Ride *** MPG. **** Reliability. ***** Verdict. **** Style. The CT looks brilliant. It is a hatchback, but a fine looking one, sleek and sporty from any angle. Interior and Comfort. The interior is one of the best in its class. The seats are superb in either cloth or leather. The driving position is easy to get right. The cabin is well laid out and in general it's a nice place to be. Practicality and boot space. Compared to others in this class, the CT is smaller, but not by much. The back seat legroom could be better, especially if you have a tall person in the front seat. The boot is not huge either, but enough for normal daily use of shopping etc. The back seats fold down very easily and the loading space is then a good size and completely flat. Engines, and performance. If you want to race other cars at the traffic lights, this car is not for you, buy a Golf GTI instead. Other than that the 1.7 Petrol/Hybrid engine copes well most of the time. There are three driving modes to choose from. 'Normal' is what I used mostly and I found it was not lacking other than if you needed to overtake really quickly, in which case I selected 'Sport mode' which makes the throttle more responsive and in my opinion gives plenty of poke. 'Eco' is there for those who are not in a hurry and want to save petrol, although to be honest I hardly noticed the difference in petrol and found it a bit sluggish to boot. 'EV mode' is when the electric motor takes over and this mainly clicks in at low speeds up to about 25mph, although on a downward slope it will come on at a higher speed. When in 'EV mode' the car is silent except for road noise, so be careful in car parks as pedestrians don't hear you coming. Ride. This is the one area I was disappointed in. Lexus gave the CT a sporty ride, which means it is quite firm. Some like this, others, myself included, do not. This is a luxury premium car, so in my opinion it should have a luxurious ride but sadly has an unsettled ride at low speeds and crashes over pot holes. This is a great shame as on most other accounts the car is wonderful. To a degree Lexus has addressed this issue, with newer CT's having a slightly softer ride, but still not enough for me. What a shame. MPG. The official government figures published by Lexus and used in all the advertising states this car achieves 68.9mpg. This is not possible in real world driving. My average was 48mpg (45mpg in winter and 51mpg in summer) over a four and a half year period. On some long journeys I did reach the high 50's but most were low to mid 50's. The national average is slightly higher. Still not bad for a car of this size and comparable to diesels on short journeys but lower than diesels on long journeys. Reliability. In my four and a half year ownership, covering 40k miles, I never had a need to take it to back for any fault. Says it all really. Lexus dealerships are the best. Verdict. This car has been a dream to own. I loved it, other than the firm ride. I was really reluctant to let it go, but my desire for a smoother ride and something easier to get in and out of, forced my hand. My wife was very reluctant to see it go and did not have an issue with the ride. So, if you want a reliable, economic, comfortable, practical and cool looking car, then look no further. Just make sure the ride suits you. I now own a Lexus NX SUV, as I am happy with the whole Lexus thing. The ride is smoother and I don't have to bend to get in and out. The mpg is less than the CT, but that is not an issue with me. Just like a bigger, smoother, high up CT really I suppose. :)

  14. Did a 163 mile round trip today, using mainly 'A' roads and Motorway of which about half had 50mph restrictions on. Returned 38mpg.
  15. Agreed, you would not get far at all. Try keeping a car in ev mode, you will only succeed for a very short distance. On a flat road with no hills, travelling at roughly 30 mph you could manage half a mile or maybe a little more, especially on a decline, but as soon as you try and go up a slight incline you would need the engine to cut in.
  16. You are right, lot's of nooks and crannies. The thin strip of paintwork benieth the grill also collects water. I try to wipe it dry but more drops of water are back in no time at all. Also, I can only just reach the centre of the roof. The bottom of the doors (inside) do get very dirty. I've never had that happen before. is it a design fault?
  17. Not noticed any camera beeps yet, is it an auto thing, or do you have to set it up somehow? Does Sat Nav need to be on?
  18. I think cruising at 50 on a motorway could be viewed as being a lane blocker. Whenever I have come up behind a car at that speed it can cause a problem, as all the vehicles on the inside lane now have to move over, including very large lorries. I'm not saying you should not drive at that speed but it is rare to find cars traveling so slow. Agreed though, when I have had to stick to 50ish the MPG goes up quite a bit.
  19. Not experienced it yet, thankfully. But I think you have it correct. The salesman also told me that it won't always prevent a crash, but it will greatly reduce the impact.
  20. Had the car a week now, although not many miles covered. Drives like a dream. Seats are wonderful. MPG for the first 6-7 very short trips was 28! But the car had barely warmed up before I had parked again so it was expected to be low. I did hope to get over 30 though. A round trip of 65 miles yesterday gave 37 mpg, mainly 'A' roads with some motorway, about half at speed restricted 50 the rest 70+. Ride is smooth, with plenty of power. So why it gets negative feedback on those bits I have no idea. Not tried it fully laden going up a hill yet mind. ;) One odd thing. The smart entry worked for 5 days but now does not seem to want to. Maybe I turned something off.
  21. I don't have Premium Nav, just the standard. I haven't used it much yet but I have not heard any speed camera beeps either, so I imagine there are not any. It's too early for me to say if i think the extra £1000 for Sat Nav is worth it, but it does look great. My mirrors don't dip. Memory and ventilated seats are not on the Luxury either, nor are they an extra, which is a shame.

  24. Looks awesome. Not over keen on white cars normally, but the NX is stunning in white.
