The key would still have a transponder inside to work the immobiliser even if it didn't have buttons. You would be better consulting a vehicle locksmith.
I hadn't meant that to sound like the AA didn't do anything - the service was excellent. :D It was more my own embarrassment at having called them out for something so trivial...

Yes the air temperature sensor is dead easy to replace, it's the device with the black plug in the airbox cover, I happen to have one spare if you need one.
Don't take anything that idiot says as truth TBH. The guy is a complete waste of space and so is top gear. All the show is about is 3 adults acting as children with a few useless comments thrown in.
