  1. I can bring the mpg of my NX F Sport down to just below 20 when using the sport mode and flappy paddles enthusiastically. Driving normally in town I am now averaging around 36mpg, which is well below Lexus claims, but considerably better than two of my mates get in their 2.2 diesel Evoques, which are truly shocking on fuel economy (20-22 in town). As for Lexus claims that you can drive in electric mode only at up to 30mph, well I'm not sure how they achieved that. My engine cuts in with the slightest push on the accelerator at anything over 15mph. So, as far as I'm concerned the hybrid drive is only useful for providing a bit of extra power from standstill. A totally different and somewhat less satisfactory experience than I had with my old RX 450H.
  2. Yes, one of the downsides of the Premier in a rear end collision are the electrical detection systems in the rear bumper. Great for warning you of approaching vehicles in your blind spots, but a pain when somebody damages them. Was he texting, calling, or just your average tailgating idiot?
  3. Amit, have just got back from holiday and read your post. I am so sorry, you must be extremely angry and gutted. As far as I am aware, a vehicle only becomes Cat D if the insurer decides it is uneconomical to repair, and therefore does not carry out the repair work. From what I can see, the damage is very unlikely to trigger the automatic write off of a £45k car. I hope the parts arrive quickly, and you are back on the road asap. In the highly unlikely event that they did decide to write off the car, one option is for you to buy it back as a Cat D, and get the repairs done yourself. Cat D cars are worth less at resale, but a favourable deal with the insurer could more than cover that when you decide to sell. Good luck mate!
  4. Yes, perhaps the term beautifully built, and reliability assessments are a bit premature, but the actual quality of the materials and attention to detail is extremely good, which is a lot more than can be said for some rivals.
  5. No chance of that Chris. I've owned 2 or 3 cars over the years that were trashed by Top Gear, as well as a couple they raved about. The problem is Clarkson and co only drive the cars for a couple of hours, and are only interested in thrashing them. They have no idea what they are going to be like on a long term basis, or how they are going to be driven by individual owners. I remember May raving about the Jaguar XF, and Clarkson about the XJ, and having owned both, they were unreliable with iffy build quality, and I was glad to get rid of them. The RCF is a fine car, beautifully built, and with a price tag that puts the manufacturers of some other performance cars to shame.
  6. I see William Hill are offering odds on new presenters, with the favorites being Chris Evans, Piers Morgan and Boris Johnson. Gawd help us, Joe Pasquale and the Chuckle Brothers would be better.
  7. Well he's gone, and I doubt Hammond and May will be renewing their contracts later this year either. My guess is that all three will sign up with Sky or C4 to present a Top Gear clone. Although he brought it on himself, I'm quite surprised the BBC took such a hard line with Clarkson, especially after they turned a blind eye to the paedos and pervs that worked there for decades.
  8. That's a pretty accurate description, except some of the new Ford models are nicer looking, just as reliable, better equipped and far cheaper. The new generation of ecoboost engines are also very impressive.
  9. I might be mixing this up with another car review, but I seem to remember a couple of reviews where they said the 200T needs premium fuel, but the 300H runs best on standard or low octane unleaded. Might be worth a try though.
  10. If you can get 33.4 MPG out of an ISF you are doing well. I used to get around 14 in town, 20 combined, and a maximum of 24-25 on a run from my 2010 ISF. It didn't seem to make a lot of difference if I drove it gently either, but the high consumption was a lot easier to swallow with a 5.0 V8 than it is with a 4 cylinder 2.5 Hybrid. Some NX owners in the States are starting to report figures in the high 30s (from a smaller US gallon), so maybe things will steadily improve here as the summer approaches.
  11. If the waiting list for a dealer supplied car is 3-6 months depending on model and spec, I wonder how long the wait would be ordering through a broker. Anyone know how many NX's have been sold in the UK so far?
  12. Think you are right there David. An almost totally useless system unless you carry around a pressure monitor to check which tyre is causing it, or the problem is obvious on inspection.
  13. There are a couple of very low mileage white F Sports available for around £37,000 that have Premium Navigation, and that represents an approximate £3000 saving on new. However, as Bodmeister says, discounts on new ones aren't available, and there is a lengthy waiting list of people on the books who have paid the full price already.
  14. I don't think a 2 litre diesel would haul the NX around as quickly or as quietly as the petrol turbo does. It would probably take a V6 3.0L diesel to produce similar performance figures, and I think the writing is on the wall for diesel cars, particularly those with larger engines. That's going to worry our German friends.
  15. I'm with you. Yes, no individual pressures, just a system that monitors all four. I wonder when Lexus last visited to assess the state of our roads!! Actually seems a very stupid reason for not fitting Direct TPMS because this is a 4WD SUV, and if you intend to use it off road, then you are likely to encounter "rough road" conditions whatever country you happen to be in. I'll take the real reason to be they were too tight to spend a few pounds adding the direct system, same as they were too tight to give out handbooks for the car.
  16. If there is no data on the TPMS screen, whilst on that screen, try pressing and holding in the OK button on the steering wheel (the button with a dot on it surrounded by the 4 arrow keys). This initializes the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. You should get a message to say TPMS is recalibrating, and then you just have to wait a short while until this has been completed. I don't know whether this will help, but it's worth a try.
  17. There seems to be lot of bias against Lexus in the motoring press, and I think most of the reviews I have read of the NX are not just unfair, but total nonsense. I ordered mine before the press got their hands on the vehicle, because if I had read those reviews before ordering, I may well have changed my mind. Yes the MPG isn't great, but owners seem to be getting much better figures now that the warmer weather has started to arrive. Performance in ECO mode is a little sedate, better in Normal mode, and quick when in Sports mode and using the paddle shifters properly. An independent test puts the 0-60 time at 7.7 for the NX 300H, which is considerably faster than the official figures, and very close to those of the IS 300H. I have just been looking at the full performance data of the NX 300H compared to my old Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel (non S model), and the difference is marginal. Surprising for a heavy petrol SUV, but the amount of low down torque produced by the electric motors does put it close to V6 diesel territory when driven hard in Sports mode. I have no regrets buying the car. It is everything I had hoped it would be, although I remain disappointed at the marketing of the car, which means that some of the more desirable options are reserved exclusively for the Premier model, and therefore unavailable on the (IMHO) better looking F Sport model.
  18. Please see link below. I thought the car felt really quick around town, and put this down to the rapid initial acceleration due to the combination of the petrol engine, coupled with instant torque from the electric motors. The 0-80 kph and 0-50mph figures in this test seem to confirm. So, almost certainly as quick, if not quicker, than the 200T - to 50 at least. It also shows that fuel consumption on test is a lot more than Lexus claimed figures. http://www.automobile-catalog.com/car/2015/2070905/lexus_nx_300h_awd.html
  19. He simply can't help himself. Despite all the warnings, he just has to continue winding up the BBC management during the show by walking a very fine line between being naughty, and being offensive. Nevermind, if the worst comes to the worst I'm sure he would make a 1st class Transport Secretary for UKIP.
  20. Program has been cancelled on Sunday as well. The report says he likes things to be done his way, and gets stroppy if anyone dares to cross him. Yeah, I bet he does. About time he was brought down a peg or too. Since the BBC want to increase the numbers of female presenters, perhaps they should poach V Butler-Henderson, or better still Sabine Schmitz as a replacement.
  21. Nah, only watched last week to see the RCF. Washing my hair tonight...lol!!
  22. Lovely car Chris, really hope you enjoy it. Precisely the same colour combination I would go for if 'er indoors would let me have one....which she won't!! Don't know how Clarkson can call it ugly, has he looked in the mirror recently?? Do let us know how you get on with it!
  23. Not as much a waste of time as the rest of the show was. I would have liked to see the Stig put the RCF around the track, but not as much as seeing Clarkson & May returning from Canada having been unable to find Hammond.
  24. How true. I think he displayed his contempt for Lexus by refusing to "waste time" sending the Stig to do a lap. Either that or he was afraid he would be shown up as a true "gentlemen's sausage".
