  1. Alan, just my personal opinion, but I would stick with your IS Premier if you can, at least until Lexus sort out a few of the issues with the NX Hybrid, and offer a greater variety of options. To get an average of 48mpg from your IS is excellent, and it's a lovely car.. I am lucky to average 30mpg in my NX FSport 300H, and that slips to mid twenties in town driving. My daughters partner has just purchased an NX 200T, and he gets returns almost as good, but enjoys the additional performance, and no hybrid quirks. I wish I'd waited for that model, or not bothered with the car at all.
  2. I drove a new CTS in the US a few weeks ago. It's a great looking car, especially in the metal, but like a lot of cars, photos don't do it justice at all. Reminded me of the Chrysler 300C from the side and rear, but a much better car than that heap of Brampton Canadian junk. The Hyundai dealer tells me the company is developing a new diesel engine for the Genesis, which will probably make it much more attractive to UK owners. I don't want another diesel though. What with quite a lot of shorter journeys, warnings that diesel supplies may run short, and the Governments changing attitude to the toxic emissions they produce, it's best I go with a petrol. I wouldn't be surprised to see them shift the tax burden onto diesel vehicles, and give incentives to people to buy petrol. Who knows, it may even become cheaper to tax a large petrol engine car than a small diesel....but I won't count my chickens.
  3. I love the interior of the A8 & S8, but the exterior does nothing for me at all. You're right about the dealers Amit, especially true of the one we have locally. My friend had an S8, but only kept it a few months because of constant electrical, and other minor issues. I've rather gone off German cars because they are far too common, and far too generic. I'm drawn to the Genesis because of the massive amount of standard kit, price, rarity value, the fact that my Hyundai dealer is only 5 minutes walk away, and reports that say it is up there in terms of build quality, with Lexus and Infiniti. There are a couple of switches that looked like they came straight out of an i10, but apart from that I couldn't fault the car. It's interesting to read & compare the overwhelmingly glowing reviews from US motoring journalists and owners, against the dismissive reviews here in the UK. Then again, as Lexus owners we are used to that biased bilge!!
  4. £30200 for your NX Premier is an insult. If buying a new RX I would expect at least £34 or £35k, especially when we know it's likely to sell for £38 - £40k. I'm seriously thinking about an offer I've been given on a 3.8 V6 Genesis. £32k for a 15 plate with 5k miles. I know the tax and fuel will be expensive, but with a 5 year warranty and a free 5 year service pack I will break even. I drove it today, and it's a very nice car indeed. Will have to de-badge the H logo and fit a winged badge on the rear though!!
  5. A few options I can't see on the new RX, I'd like to see (can't find any mention of them). Soft close doors, SMART reverse and parallel parking assist, Heated and Ventilated rear seats, Electrically reclining rear seats, Power folding 60/40 rear seats, and if it hasn't got it, blind spot information in the HUD. It's also about time Lexus threw in a 5 year warranty to bring it in line with Toyota. A free service pack would be nice too!!
  6. Re Lexus Safety Systems. Don't see the point of that video as there's nothing new or innovative that can't be found on other cars, many of which are a lot cheaper.

  8. True, but the Genesis is a great looking car, and much better equipped than the GS. In fact, no options available because it has it all as standard. Worth BA in 5 years time though I suspect, and the GS is quicker and much more economic. Still, only 12 sold so far in the UK, which makes it fairly unique, but I bet 11 of those are demos!! Would probably have sold a lot better if they put the new Tucson diesel into it.
  9. By the way, I was at my Lexus dealer today having the NX serviced and saw a new Hyundai Genesis parked outside. Shame about the badge, because for £48k it looks a stunning, fully loaded vehicle. I can see Hyundai going the Toyota route and launching a premium brand if they continue to improve the quality of their products like this. I going to test drive one just out of curiosity, although the 3.8 V6 and £505 road tax would make it a no no for me.Anyone else seen one??
  10. Haven't got my glasses on but looks like no adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, panoramic roof or auto brake function in the Premier as standard. Add another £3 - £4k if available as options.
  11. Perhaps it's the Lexus dealers here in the South East, but then again some of the BMW and Jaguar dealers are almost as bad. The new RX is such a stunner, I wouldn't be surprised to see it become a huge hit. Why would you buy a nasty X5 or bland Q7 when you could have something that looks like the RX. Far better quality, and a dealer service network that treats customers as if they are actually valued.
  12. That would be slightly more than a 20% saving on new. I don't know the chances of that happening with dealers still offering year old NX F Sport's at less than a 10% saving on new prices. I've bought a lot of different brands over the years, but Lexus dealers have to be the greediest bunch I have ever encountered. Insulting p/ex prices and sky high resale. I really hope you get the car, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 6 month old ex demos going for nearer the £53k mark. Whether anybody will pay that price is another matter.

  14. I'm reading the speculation on pricing with interest. From what I've read Lexus won't be releasing details until closer to launch date, so I'm wondering whether some of this is deliberate misinformation originating from Lexus, so that when (and if) the prices are lower than expected, buyers are more likely to place an order, happy that the vehicle they want is less than they were expecting. Another possibility is that they wait to see how many pre-launch orders are received, and then base the prices on the maximum that they think they can get away with. So, if the order books are virtually empty, the price is likely to be set lower. Of course the risk there is you wait for pricing before placing an order, and then find all allocated vehicles have already been sold, and there's a long wait time. Either way, the only winners are the manufacturers and dealers. I'm probably wrong, but I wouldn't put any marketing tricks past big companies.
  15. The XE is a nice looking car, but the rear is far too cramped. Apart from that, having had 4 Jaguars that were all unreliable, I wouldn't rush back to the brand. A lot of the materials used look good, but on closer examination turn out to be poor quality. Not what you expect when paying that kind of money.
  16. Yes, pricing is still to be announced, but even starting at £35k for the base model, it is still £10k cheaper than the NX Premier. You could probably spec the F Pace up to an equal or higher level than the NX with that £10k, because it's unlikely to have the same stupid options list marketing strategy that Lexus have used for the NX. I think the new RX is an amazing looking vehicle, and the build quality and reliability will doubtless be top notch. However, after owning the NX, it will have to be very very good indeed to persuade me to stay loyal. Unfortunately for Lexus, the Jaguar name carries a lot of weight, and I suspect many customers will be prepared to pay for that alone. It's not a threat to the larger RX, but if they get it right, the J Pace may be.
  17. Typical American review, just waffle on for ages about the various models, and then not drive any of them. It's a striking looking vehicle, and it looks huge in the video. I saw some new photos of the Jaguar F Pace yesterday, and that's bound to hit sales of BMW, Audi and Lexus small/medium SUV's , especially with a predicted starting price of £30-£35k for the 2.0L Ingenium engine, and the 3.0L Supercharged V6 at around £50k. You could go all out with the options list, and still come in considerably cheaper than an RX Premier. JLR may still have build and reliability issues, but that hasn't stopped the Evoque being hugely successful. I imagine there will be queues outside the dealerships for Jaguar's first SUV, Two more models on the cards too, the Evoque sized E Pace, and the Range Rover Sport sized J Pace. Time for the Germans and Japanese to start worrying maybe??
  18. When the RX hits showrooms Lexus will make sure there are so few of them that it creates the illusion of great demand. There are bound to be some who are disappointed at not being able to get hold of one, and that allows dealers to sell on ex-demo models at pretty much new prices. After all, if you are told you will have to wait 6 months or more for a new car, and you are that desperate to own one, the ex-demo may be a more attractive proposition. After a couple of months the small number of people willing to pay new prices for used cars is exhausted, and then Lexus dealers have to start lowering their forecourt prices in order to shift them. That's the time to buy. Alternatively, wait a little longer and buy privately from somebody who doesn't like the car, or who buys it as a fashion accessory, then sell's it when the novelty wears off, and a newer trendier model takes it place. Always a few of them!!
  19. Used NX's seem to be hanging around for ages, partly due to dealers being totally unrealistic with their prices, and partly because word has got around that the car isn't that good. The near £30k premium for the top of the range RX is a joke, and I imagine it will also sit around on forecourts with over inflated dealer ex-demo prices. Lexus like you to believe there is huge demand for their cars, but I reckon they manipulate the import figures deliberately to give the impression of scarcity. Demand outstrips supply if 100 people want to buy an NX, and Lexus only import 50 a month, which makes the car look a bigger success than it actually is. The truth is it isn't very popular. Total UK Sales figures of the NX so far are less than 2000, which with 35 million cars on the roads means one person in every 17500 owns one. Dealer offers when you try and trade in an NX are really really low, which I take as an indication that apart from being greedy B's, they know it's going to be difficult to sell on.
  20. Pity the XC90 is so plain. It's a beautifully built car, and the plug in diesel hybrid powertrain with it's low emissions and outstanding economy, is better than anything else in that class. If it had the looks of the RX or the Porsche I'd be signing up for one. I'm sure the Lexus hydrogen powertrain will be a huge hit here in the UK, a country that still hasn't got a decent charging network in place after nearly a decade.
  21. Really like it. The rear end and side profile is much sleeker than the NX. Can't think of another SUV that comes close looks wise.

Yes, the Volvo has an electric range of up to 32 miles, and you can drive on electric only at speeds of up to 78mph, Regenerative braking helps charge the battery, as does the diesel engine if you use it. There is a battery save button that can be pressed to reserve the power in the batteries if you are on a longer journey, and that power can then be used when you get into stop/start traffic. There are three drive modes - Pure (battery only), Hybrid (uses whichever is most appropriate, electric, diesel, or both), and Power (combines both hybrid and diesel to give nearly 300bhp and the 640Nm of torque, turning the car into a bit of a monster). The V60 plug ins I've been looking at all have Adaptive lights, adaptive cruise, collision mitigation systems, reversing camera, blind spot, lane departure system,. 650W Harman Kardon stereo, and tilt and slide sunroof. Pretty good for around £35k, being just a few months old, and with very low mileage. I also like the zero road tax, no London congestion charge, and negligible fuel costs.
  23. SInce Nissan make the best selling small SUV, I'm rather surprised they haven't come up with a plug in version of it yet. The Leaf is a great little car, providing some idiot with a normal vehicle hasn't parked in the charging bay. Lost count of the number of times that happened to us, and retailers/forecourt owners really should take action to stop it. I agree with you, plug in cars and twin engine cars do make the Toyota/Lexus hybrid system look ever less attractive. When BMW and VW launch their versions early next year, I think they will make cars like the IS and GS hybrids virtually redundant.
  24. It's a car that looks much better in the metal. Photos didn't do much for me either, and still don't if I'm honest. One you have to see, sit in and drive to appreciate the comfort, build quality, performance and looks. I like the way they have managed to carry over front end cues from Roger Moore's old Volvo 1800, with the classic shooting brake rear end from Volvo's of the 1970's, and rolled it all up into a modern design. I think it looks particularly striking in white. I know some regard Volvo as a brand for old fella's, but any old fella who test drives the V60 plug in or V60 Polestar, would need to take a fresh set of underwear, and have any pacemaker checked out beforehand. The 0-60 time is up there with cars like the 3.0 Jaguar XFS, but it's the way the instant torque (Max 640Nm in the plug in) gets it to around 50 mph that really impresses. Puts a smile on my face as I pull away leaving the boy racers standing!!
  25. Not sure. Boot is a fair size, but it's a high load area because of the batteries. Loads of space with one or both parts of the rear seat down though.
