  1. Search for “wing mirrors auto tilt” then look for newbie’s post aug 2015. Tell you what I’ll bump it to the top of the list in the main forum below.
  2. Yes...you can change the glass. There is an excellent write up by Noobie in the forum somewhere. Loads of pictures and explanation of all the steps you need to take and how to be careful how you press the mirror back into place!!! If I find it I’ll post a link to it.
  3. You won't go far wrong by having a good read of this The 250 auto is just a splendid car in every department. I had a 220d and was very unlucky at first but fortunate afterwards to have one that achieved very good mpg. The mpg with the 250 auto is very close or even better than I have seen other 220d drivers quoting. Typically 27-31 around town and 36 -40 on a decent run. The only caveat is...it all depends on how any vehicle is driven.
  4. +1 to the above Entry from the Owners Recommendations list .... here -link- Oil Filter Removal tool You'll need one of these to remove the oil filter. Made by the likes of Sealey/ Draper etc and found on Amazon and Ebay. A 600mm breaker bar may come in handy too they are often over tightened. They can be undone using the square drive port on the tool but it's better to use a socket if you have one to hand. There is a danger of splitting the square drive port with excessive force. The sump plug washer should be a fibre type with an aluminium core.
  5. Get a 250 ..... every time. I’ve had both .... trust me it is a no brainer. The only decision is manual or auto. I’d take the auto every time.
  6. Have you tried sorbothane pads under the feet of each unit? You can find various sorbothane products on ebay, there are even hemisheric pads of different diameters. Like this. Sorbothane hemispheres I've found that works a treat. I got lucky years ago and was given some small 3" squares of different thickness to play with (at the time I was helping with developing some isobarik speakers). Here's a tip for speakers. If they are of reasonable age (my iso's are circa 1992), have a gentle feel of the rubber diaphragm surrounding the cone. If it feels a bit harder or stiffer than you recall... then try a good application of Gummi Pflege or 3. I was staggered at the difference it made to my speakers. The diaphragms are now soft and beautifully pliable again. Did the same for the designer of the isobarik's set and he was utterly blown away by the improvement.
  7. Can't find the original seller of my side light bulbs but this looks very close Link Just make sure, for the w5w type bulb you get the same tail fitment as shown in the pic. Also, try and get the type that has a metal sheath at the working end as the Full beam pumps out enough heat to melt those plastic type smd versions. You really want the CREE type in there. Don't get this type of tail fitment ... I found they did not work at all ...anywhere..... on a Lexus. My son had some for his Audi ...worked fine ... but not on my Lexus!!
  8. My guess, .... and it is only a guess, ..... is the previous owner has put some of those 'blue' 5w5 caplet bulbs in the side light socket. They were often dished out free with Halogen bulbs ... you know the type you can get on Ebay. Most MOT centres will fail those straight away. The blue light they can give out has a bit of influence on the full beam emission. Equally, there may be a very blue bulb in the full beam socket. I have an LED bulb in the side light socket ...think I put a picture in the Owners recommendations for parts page. If I can find it ..... This place:- These are the ones i got. My HID in the Osram cool blue intense Full beam is a (think it was) 5000K Halogen bulb, up specced from Ebay. Been in there about 5 years now. The bulb cover looks pale blue, but the emitted light is white, and pretty close to the HID colour. Never bothered with doing anything with the fog light bulbs ... can't remember the last time they were used!!
  9. Logically, yes I would certainly think so ....or the windscreen replacement guys would be twiddling their thumbs for a few months.
  10. Dealership only. It is updated via usb drive as far as I know. Last one I had done was £160. The updates aren’t huge so only do it every 4 or 5 years. I updated a while back ... driving in France on a motorway ... I was driving over green fields. The motorway was newish ... maybe 2 years. A lot of people criticise the sat nav but in all honesty I’ve found it really rather good. Using coordinates in Spain this year it took us straight to our chosen underground car park near the Guggenheim in Bilbao. It has done this faultlessly to various gites in France too.
  11. I have led sidelights Headlights are HID Just passed MOT not 10 mins ago. Sailed through ... no advisories ... happy days 🙂
  12. That will be 'Sod's Law' or the principle " if something can go wrong, it will". That last piece of toast so lovingly prepared slips from the plate and falls face down on the paving...as you thought you would enjoy breakfast on the patio!! My wife has a pump and foam kit for her MX5 (very little room in that boot). Mercifully not needed it yet! Damn have I just invoked a Sods Law moment!! Perhaps I'll cycle to work today.
  13. To the right of the steering column (where it enters the dash area .... if you will) there is a button. Often referred to as the Satellite switch I believe. It is a button that says On and Off and has a central domed button and a left and right tab. This button allows access to certain different menus when the engine is On or Off. This is where you turn off the Internal Motion sensor. You can only do this when the engine is turned off. You have to reset this every time you want to turn it off. It defaults back to On each time the engine is started. This is handy button to know about also for Cross Channel ferries etc. By turning the motion sensor OFF you can stop the car alarm being tripped off by the swing ticket hanging on the rear view mirror. Hope that helps.
  14. Sounds very reasonable indeed. Almost too reasonable. Whenever you replace just the pads you should allow a 'take it easy time' whilst the new pads 'bed in' to the contours of the old disc.
  15. It’s pretty safe to assume that everything is good. Looks like It could be the gel pad or the pressure applied to it by the clamping part. The clamping would be the first thing I would investigate. Watch the video to see how to dismantle.
  16. Possibly. But it may ease off over a period and stop working. Just monitor it and see how it goes
  17. Quite easy...£15 or so ..... it may just be an applied pressure thing.
  18. Maybe the gel pad dries out a bit over time and shrinks a wee bit? All you can do is suck it and see. Pushing it back against the windscreen has made it work...so just see how it goes. Worst case you get a new gel pad. Or, is it worth trying to pack out the top edge, inside the sensor, so that the replaced cover puts a bit more pressure towards the top edge? I had squally rain on the drive home tonight. Auto worked a treat, with changing sweep gaps dependant on the rain falling.
  19. Ah that's interesting. My son was rummaging through my bulbs box looking for some festoons for his Audi. I wonder If he took mine and dumped his Audi ones in there?? Little toad. Must admit I thought it odd as my head was telling me it was 28mm for the boot. Should have just gone and prised off the cover in the boot and looked for myself!!
  20. It's really quite simple to have a look. This vid shows the method. You don't need to fully withdraw that clip to release the cover. It only needs to come out about 15mm or so to clear the prongs of the metal bracket glued to the windscreen. I've read of folk on the US forum not being successful even after purchasing a new sensor unit. Electronic units are very reliable these days so I'd doubt its the problem...but it is possible. They all seem to point at the gel 'tape' as being the problem to look at. You can get the gel tape from ebay sellers. I think you need to investigate first...I certainly would before parting with any hard earnt.
  21. Have you released the bottom clip on the rain sensor cover to have a looksee? The Gel pad is defo in there? Is it nice and clean...no grubbiness or finger prints...and the sensor screen face is clean too? Here is a thread, albeit from different model but it still applies to others. If you get no joy ... as a last resort you could just disconnect the feed to the sensor and clip it all back together and just use the intermittent wipe feature...as I think this is what the system defaults to if the sensor is disconnected.
