  1. You could try checking all the battery connections....even check the sensor connector on the side.
  2. Hope you get to the bottom of this little snag matey. Looks like you're onto it if you can smell something has burned out. Had a issue in my old is200 with the illuminated door cills playing up. Detected a strange burnt plastic/electrical smell...turned out to be the transformer under the cover in the footwell. Hope its not too costly a fix!!
  3. The DPF may well be a tad coked up. Depends on the driving characteristics of the previous owner.....but the fact that the EGR was clogged may indicate the car only did short runs. A good blast down the m-way will help to burn some off for sure. I think Wynns do a DPF cleaner additive, may be worth a punt. These diesels do need a good blow from time to time to promote the regeneration of the DPF.
  4. Sounds like you have explored the logical steps. You may be right in thinking of the sensors. I had a busted wire on one of my sensors when I had a 220d and it gave similar results to what you are getting. I had no errors or owt, but it ran crap at high revs. Soon as the wire break was traced it was sweet as a nut again. Best of luck with your search.
  5. Thanks for the explanation....think you may have said all that before on a previous discussion... many thanks for taking the time to explain it all again to us.
  6. I did see an explanation on here in the past.....I think it was something to do with the injection system on this car. The LS400 is one you see conversions on. Sidster.....its a timing chain not a belt. If you want one with all bells and whistles you should look for the SEL variant. If you can afford it look at the facelift version which is 09 and later. You can tell from the exterior as it has the distinctive 'L' shaped reversing lights in the rear cluster. You will also find a USB port in the armrest. Earlier models only had a phono jack socket in the armrest. The navigation unit is functional whilst not earth shattering....if you get my drift. You'll get more from a Tom Tom etc. Having said that it works well, gives me updates on traffic situations (via radio info) and has taken me to a few areas in France with no problems at all. The facelift version has a HDD for the sat nav and not the DVD disc. You get updates via a USB stick that Lexus do. You can copy copious amounts of CDs onto the Hard Drive and still have 6 CDs in the unit. The reversing camera I have found more useful than I expected....handy extra. I find it to be a very very enjoyable motor. Engine and gearbox(auto) are sublime, it's comfortable, reasonably quiet, nippy when you want it to be and never tiring on an extended run. Wife loves driving it too! My only gripes would be, the boot mouth is a little narrow, the rear seats don't fold down(would be useful) and the front and rear pillars are quite wide...but you get used to them and the allowances you need to give. The front pillar and mirror are a fair lump too.....so you'll need extra care at junctions for m/bikes and cyclists etc, again you learn to adjust. Rear leg room is a little tight...not as generous as the Audi. Not a problem for us as we are only 2 occupants, generally, in every day use. Good luck with your search...take your time and find the car you want preferably with FLSH.
  7. Yep, I can see why you say that .....read my post above....similar outcome. They really are two faced robbing bar stewards are they not? They do nothing to promote honesty.
  8. Don't know of anyone that has had a LPG conversion on the 250...don't think it can be done. Local runs I get 29-31 in summer and 27 in winter. Extended runs i get 36 with little effort. If you want to drive like grandad you can get 38-40 even. It all depends where your mileage is going to be based. I can do a run from Ringwood to Portsmouth that is reasonably flat (ish) and all on m-way and get 40mpg with cruise control and 60mph. Stick in a few hills and it will drop back. Not bad for a 2.5 V6 really.
  9. I agree with all of that. However I honestly think that the insurance companies do nothing to help the situation by their stupid over reaction to being notified. I had a guy turn across the back of my car, whilst I was parked, after just 3 weeks ownership of my 220d. I was in Swansea on a three day holiday, this was day one....great!! I was gutted and livid, although the damage was slight. He struck me as an honest type and having exchanged all details he said he would pay for the body shop repairs at Lexus Poole. I phoned my insurance company to advise them of the incident and advised that the other party wanted to settle so there would be no claim as such. I was advising my insurance co in case there a hiccup should occur....you never know! The advisor said this was fine and they would put any claim on hold until my return from holiday. The guy was true to his word and settled the entire bill direct to Lexus in advance of the work being completed. Advised the insurance company and they were fine about it all............until I came to renew my policy about 5 months later. My premium had gone up by more than £200. Why? In the words of Nelly the Elephant.......'if you advise us ( or any insurance company for that matter) of an incident, even if no claim is made, we view you as more likely to make a claim in the near future and the advising of the incident is regarded as a no pay out claim'. This is really quite ridiculous. I complained to the highest level with Nelly..but in reality got nowhere. Took my business elsewhere and had the 'fictitious claim' removed from my records by another insurance company following discussion of the event. I still keep the details of the incident in my documents file. So, yes, you should be honest in my opinion...but don't be surprised if you get screwed over for your honesty while the deceiver walks away laughing.
  10. If you can view any online pics....you should see the ML logo on the rhs of the DVD slot. If the logo is not there it's not fitted.
  11. Well, last time I was in Lexus Poole I was told he had left and gone to a different brand. That was some months back..I'm not aware of his return. His quick link on the forum main page was removed months back as well.
  12. Nice one Goerge How about copy and pasting your write -up here.....then it will be easier for others to locate http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/category/6-lexus-is-2005-onwards/
  13. ahh...well ya didn't say that in the first post. Hope it starts then....my guess is you'll be OK.
  14. Guess there will be a few factors to consider. If the battery is newish then it should hold its charge ok. You are stored out of really cold air so that should help with battery life too. Assuming there is no trickle drain on the battery.ie something you may have added or even a boot light left on by mistake..then you should be ok. Why not just get down there and fire her up and run a bit. My wife's mx5 has been outside and unused since 20th and fired up this morning first time with a 3 yr old battery. Car was caked in ice too!
  15. Might be wrong but I think all you need is the good old micro screwdriver set. Some have the set in the spline of the tool set in the boot....worth checking your set?
  16. As you can no doubt see...my 220d has been replaced by the 250auto now. However, I recall most things associated with my ownership of the 220d. You are doing good miles each day so it is highly likely your DPF will be in pretty good shape. The big thing you can do however is keep a close eye on the EGR valve. You don't have to be an engineer to be able to take it apart and clean it. There are many video links on this forum to show you how to do it. I used to check mine every 8-10,000 miles. I also used 5ml of AR6200 fuel additive at each 50ltr fill up. The EGR was noticeably cleaner after using this...so it does indeed seem to promote a cleaner burn of the fuel. I would not go ripping the DPF out, you will fail the mot test. There are companies that will flush through the DPF to initiate a chemical cleaning of the DPF.
  17. Looks like you inadvertently activated the stealth mode. Works very well......no more speed camera nabs for you!!!
  18. The fob is designed to be opened with the end of the key. It fits perfectly. Slight twist and the fob pops open. Did exactly this in a customers kitchen the other day...her dodgy wireless doorbell had screwed my fob completely.
  19. Aah yes....wipers on my 1963 Morris 1000 How they were called 'wipers' beats me.......never wiped anything properly.
