  1. Take a look at the link...may help you. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-second-generation/691517-diy-headliner-removal-swap.html There are some pics that should help you see what is going on there. I've seen some other posts where they mention detaching the -ve cable on the battery and waiting 2 minutes so that you don't accidentally deploy the curtain airbag in the pillar. Tread carefully and read as much as you can find. Don't route any cable over the airbag!
  2. Exactly right. Happened to me between purchase and collection of car. The seller was mortified. The car had FLSH. I had seen the book so was OK about it...it can happen to anyone. I don't think Lexus GB will be able to fill in all your details as the dealerships are under different group ownerships ie, Snows, Sytner's, Lister's, Westover, etc. They can tell you where it was serviced within the dealer network, then you can contact the relevant one to get the stamps entered. Guildford Lexus produced a duplicate book and stamped up all they could confirm at Guildford dealership. My Poole branch were able to tell me the first 2 services were at Bristol Lexus. Posted my book to Bristol with a covering letter and all was stamped up and returned. Don't know the cost of the book itself as that was stumped up by the seller...think it was about £25.
  3. Good work rizwan. Something very satisfying about repairing a problem. Did the same on the on/off switch on my hi-fi power amp a couple of weeks back. They said it could not be done as the model was too old. Pah! Eventually found the component online and sorted it after a couple of hours stripping apart. Worked a treat!
  4. Manual gearbox has road tax of £460 I believe. Auto gearbox has road tax of £280. Auto mpg....typically I get 27-31 around town. On a decent run with cruise control I get 35-39.
  5. Yep, I keep an eye on mine ( in my 250 now)...and the cabin filter too. Change them as necessary and put a dated label on the casing...so the techs can see I've done it and don't try billing me for one!! They charge silly rates for these filters. TBH it applies to any car really. Air filters are dead easy to do.
  6. Not quite the same Steve. The outer covers are held down with the little clips(that always vanish). The central cover pushes down directly onto the top of the engine. Think it would be OK as it can't really go far. You could always look out for one from a breaker or fleabay maybe.
  7. If i'm not mistaken Lexus have pretty large mileage gaps for changing the air filter. Ridiculously large I feel. Had the same when I had a 220d it was filthy after a full service. Took it back and complained to be shown the schedule that said it was not due for changing for another 10,000 mls!!! My argument...well surely someone should at least look - it only takes 2 minutes to uncover. They replaced it FOC when they saw it!! It was just like yours.
  8. You got it....the car is at too low revs. When i had a 220d I could only use 6th when doing more than 85mph Only ever used it in France. Stick in 5th at 70/75mph and all will be fine.
  9. Put a post up in the 450h section...you're sure to get some answers. I'm surprised it does not even have a 3mm jack connector. Maybe there is but you have yet to find it?
  10. Welcome You could take a look here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/87692-solved-crack-sound-from-centre-console/ But, if you have not had the car long, why not go back to the dealership and ask them to put the fault right. Assuming you are still within your purchase warranty period.
  11. Found it!! Take a read of this, I think it might help. Its just a shame his pics have gone. They were very informative. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/70826-lexus-is220-head-gaskett-gone/ Please understand I am not slating the Diesel, but you should go in with eyes wide open. Its a hell of an expense if it goes. If I recall correctly mine about £4600 or so.
  12. From my own experience of when I had a 220d... Clutch....The dmf can get somewhat noisy and also feel rather heavy to disengage when changing gear. It was better when I had a new clutch put in at the same time as the new engine. The gearbox....i found the gearing a bit odd. As if it wasn't well matched to the set up in the car. I found 6th gear utterly useless unless doing 85mph in France. At 70 in this country it felt too high a ratio and caused a fair bit of drone. It just felt wrong in my car. 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third can be a bit notchy on the meshing of the gears.....i found with mine. I agree to a point on the hg thing but...even when changed there have been a couple of reports of the replacement engines going too. The 09 onwards was...i was told by Lexus...using a modified head. But there have been some my09 engines going too. There was a really informative post some time back by 'Orme' a toyota technician up in Scotland. He put up loads of pictures showing why this particular engine had the head judder that caused the gasket failure. Sadly those pictures are not viewable any more. You're right to say this is not just a Lexus issue of reliability. I have several friends with Audis & BMW's that have been a nightmare in costs. I'm not so sure about the post later that says most problems occur before 60k. They can happen at any time. Mine went at 107,000mls and had FLSH with 6 stamps in the book. Having said that I got very good mpg from mine. It went like the clappers too. Up and going on the motorway it would really shift....and was not noisy at all at speed in 5th. In fact it was jolly nice. The crucial thing with these...IMO...is to be doing good sized journeys and get that DPF regeneration going. I would not recommend it for a local/town runaround. Take it on a good test drive and put it through differing driving styles. See if you like it.
  13. Read as many posts as you can find on this site relating to the is220d. You need to be well aware of the head gasket/gearbox/clutch issues that owners have experienced. I know...i had one a few years back. Look here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum/127-lexus-is-250-lexus-is-250c-club-lexus-is-220d-is-200d-club/ Then ask yourself if a petrol auto 250 might not be better? You need to be doing decent length journeys in the 220d to keep the engine/EGR/DPF in good order. This is not a car to pootle around town in. Sorry, don't mean to rain on your parade but you need to go in with eyes wide open.
  14. Take a look on the Black circles website. Input your car details or the tyre size you want. They will give a list of tyres and indicate road noise. wet grip, fuel economy etc
  15. If you can record cd's onto your HDD then you must have a HDD based system ( its what I would expect on a 2010 vehicle). That is why you have a USB based update system for the Sat Nav. The Sat Nav does not read from a DVD disc it reads direct from the Hard Drive. The CD/DVD drive is a separate part of the ML system. The CD/DVD drive will indeed play DVD's (but the picture is disabled when you select drive and release the footbrake) and also DVD audio discs if you have any. I listen to the audio of quite a few of my music DVD's. The only tiresome bit is you have to stop if you want to change a disc as you can't get your passenger to access any of the menus to select anything if you are moving, the screen is 'blued' out ( can't say blacked-out as mine is literally Blue!!!). You can also put several hundred mp3 files on a CD and play them. If you have a USB port in your armrest (mine does so I figure yours would) you can plug in a USB stick loaded with mp3 files and play those as a music source too.
  16. Lot of pics here....although it is relating to a hack on the DVD http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/61417-uk-dvd-and-phone-hack-instructions-is220d-manual/
  17. I'd say its not really conceivable that the connections will work loose during normal driving.....come to that i don't think rough terrain will do it either. There is a locking clip that has to be depressed to actually pull the connector out. They are quite fiddly little so and so's. But if someones been in there before for something like a phone connection.....then that's a different matter. I did have access to a site for diagrams and instructions for removing the centre console... but its been taken down. I'll have a look see and search and see what i can find. Maybe someone else has some source?
  18. I have a similar set up to you in my is250SEL (2010) with HDD unit. I don't have any wireless facility, I'd guess you don't either...but I may be wrong. I had my sat nav updated 7 or 8 months back. You need to purchase a 'licence' from Lexus. This is a USB stick loaded with the most current map data. As far as I know the only way to do this is at the Lexus dealership. I don't think you can download and input any data yourself. The cost is £160 and it takes a couple of hours. My maps were 2010 and I did find the 2014 maps were much better. It was very noticeable in France this year. My older data the year before in France was a bit off the mark in quite a few places. On one well established Autoroute we were driving across green fields for about 30 miles!!! If i recall correctly i think the chap at Lexus said the new software is released each April. I'd say update probably every 3 to 4 years..... then you should see a noticeable difference. I guess if you hit the 'I Agree' button you would find yourself needing that USB drive...but there may be an option to 'Cancel'.
  19. Well staged fake...went viral some years back.
