  1. Haven't done it myself...but, in case you had not seen it, there is a guide in the "How to" section...here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/194-fitting-a-mesh-front-grille-to-is220-is250/ Looks like the link is dead now though. Will give a good insight on what to do.
  2. Aah, as long as it's not the steering rack itself! That can be bloody expensive. Why don't the testers just say "track rod ends"....most folk will understand that.
  3. I guess there are 2 possibilities 1. The DVD loading device is broken somewhere. 2. It may be a misfed DVD/CD that has slipped between the platters when being loaded. Don't know for sure...its just a hunch. If it is option 2 then you have to remove the whole lot and open up the player unit. See if there is a DVD/CD jammed in there somewhere. They can be pretty fiddly to extract (i had to do it on my old is200) so extreme patience is called for. Work methodically and take pics (ipad or similar) to assist with putting it all back together.
  4. Did you load the DVD's yourself or is this on a car you have just bought? You could try ejecting everything as a start. Then you know all trays are empty. Assuming there is only 1 disc in there it may just be a copied disc in a duff format. Or does the blue surrounding light mean there is a disc present? Sorry, but my later version is a bit different. Could be a misfeed at loading point. That's a bit of a bugger to sort but can be done with great care. Does not normally happen on the mk2 is...it was a bit of a problem on the mkI is200. Generally speaking you'd probably hear it not sounding happy at load point if its a misfed disc.
  5. Me too. Just back from 2 weeks in France. On my run from Le Havre to south of Clermont Ferrand I was showing 43.2 on the autoroute for 400 miles or so. Once off the AR and twisting into the Auvergne region it came back to 34.
  6. Not aware of one. Is the whole lot firmly fitted? Could be ..... a new windscreen at some point..... mirror not anchored securely after the refit?
  7. You'd need to be Uri Geller to know in advance of the Head going. I had a 220d. Full Lexus servicing, 6 stamps in the book.....head went 6 weeks later!! Didn't even know it had gone....it went in for a service and suspected pin hole in the exhaust!!! They can drive well even with head gone. You'd want to look at the water reservoir. It should be pink liquid only, clear,no oil droplets and no exhaust smell. Remove oil filler cap and look for mayonnaise type sludge in the neck of the cap. Go and drive all 3 variants...see which you like best. Try as many as you can find...do not rush.
  8. You're right...the tax can be a factor...but your figures are missing something important. Diesel 220 (manual) circa £180pa Petrol 250 (manual) circa £490, but I believe 05/06 models are £290 pa Petrol 250 (auto) circa £290 On a decent run I can get 36mpg from my 250 auto (40 if I try really hard).
  9. Sorry...had no idea this question was here. Only just saw this. You are right, its a press and pull apart a bit like the headlight bulb connector
  10. Ahh.....but if its the SEL then it will have the rear blind. Switch down by your right knee. Jolly useful in the summer and also at night with D**kh***s on full beam or out of alignment. Also, naturally, very good for keeping roasting hot sun off your rear passengers. Use mine regularly.
  11. Abdul makes some very sensible points for consideration and I readily agree with what he says. That's pretty much where I was when I had my 220d. The problem is..you are coming from a straight six 200 petrol... I really don't think you will enjoy the driving experience of the 220. But the proof is in the pudding....so please go and try some. Pay attention to the gearbox and any perceived lag at pull away. The 220, I found, requires a large amount of maintenance and care. If it goes pop it can be very very expensive. Mine went, I was covered, I saw the bill..it was £4600. That is catastrophic for a 06/07 vehicle. Generally the auto is much less on road tax £280 against(in worst case) £460. However some of the early year 250 manuals qualify for £280 road tax.
  12. The extended warranty related to the head gasket was limited to 110,000 mls or 7 years....whichever came first. You also need a FLSH. You're out of luck on that I'm afraid to say. Having had a 200 you will, I think, not enjoy the 220d. However that's just my own personal judgement. Please wait and find a 250 auto...you will not be disappointed. I had a 200 sport, a 220d and now a 250 auto.
  13. Yes yes...spill the beans...we need to know the details. Could be really useful info.
  14. No no...they are not clips that come loose they are the measures taken by Lexus under a call back for rattling/creaking of the dash. Some who were unlucky not to be covered by warranty could have spent £200+ on having the dash loosened for these measures to be implemented. It's been quite widely covered on the 220/250 forum.
  15. Worth noting if you get a windscreen replaced Tell the fitter to be on the look out for any anti rattle clips fitted at the top front of the dashboard. You don't want to be presented with a handful of bits after its fitted with the note....."dunno what these are for". If they are in there they need to stay there or your dash will start creaking or rattling. I pointed this out to the chap from Autoglass that did my old 2007 220d. He'd never heard of this......sure enough they were there. IIRC they were blue plastic clips and what appeared to be small rolls of insulation cloth.
  16. Welcome aboard Stefano. Saw an is200 at Lake Garda (Desenzano) with Italian plates. They were quite rare i have to admit....its the same in France.
  17. Have you thought about your insurance policies? Might be worth looking if your car or home policy covers loss of key/remotes? My bank account covers my keys for the car.
  18. Having just had a quick read on the site, it looks like the AR6400 is a bit like BG244 in how it is used. So it is not as expensive as the AR6200 fuel additive. AR6400......http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/product.php/666/archoil-ar6400-d-pro-diesel-cleaner-pea-concentrate BG244.......http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/product.php/3/bg-244-diesel-fuel-cleaner
  19. Not too sure about putting the whole bottle in (bloody expensive), in one go. Take a read here http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/ and here http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/section.php/157/1/diesel-engines and here http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/product.php/385/archoil-ar6200-fuel-modification-complex--combustion--burn-rate-modifier-lubricant There is a lot of interesting stuff to read on the site...and I found it made an awful lot of sense. I used to put 5ml of AR6200 in with 50 litres of fuel. Apologies...may have got my numbers mixed up...i think the additive i used was AR6200 IIRC it was about £34 a 250ml bottle. AR6400 is probably a modified version of that. You can always ask the question of Powerenhancer they are a helpful bunch ...i found.
  20. Hi Harry I used to have a 220d in 2007 vintage. Pretty much everything you describe is somewhat normal. The IS diesel is a compromised vehicle and not a particularly good attempt from Lexus.......they dropped the diesel pretty quickly. I used AR6400 at 5ml with each fill up, and then a tin of BG244 in a full tank every 8000 miles. I found they helped a lot. I also cleaned the EGR valve every 8000 miles. Aside from all the points you make the car ran really well and was not that noisy. It was very quiet and smooth at speed and the acceleration (when moving) was very very good.
  21. Mark is spot on. Look up to the top of the light unit and you will see a small bulb located there. That is the sidelight bulb. I stupidly touched the body with a lit LED bulb and blew that fuse in the front compartment in the engine bay. That may well be where your problem lies.
  22. Noobie is completely right....walk away....continue the search. Buy the car you want in your own time...do not rush in.
  23. As far as I am aware this can only be performed by a Lexus dealership. This question has been asked a few times....and to the best of my knowledge that was always the outcome. Sorry......but if you find a way do let us all know.
