Crikey 10 mins.. You were a man on a mission. Right so you had 10 bulbs. 2 in the puddle lights. 2 in the overhead lights behind the sun shade on each side. 3 in the centre overhead courtesy light unit. Look for the little indentations in the grey plastic lens. This can be removed to reveal the bulbs. 2 in the base of each front door...that's 9 gone. The festoons in the rear can be no more than 30mm from memory. 42mm will be way too big...don't go there!!!!!Again look for the two little indentations in the grey plastic lens...lever gently and the lens will pop off to reveal the 2 festoon bulbs. There is 1 the same size in the boot too if you want to do that one too.

That's quite alright matey. This is a pretty friendly/helpful forum....we all start somewhere. I knew nowt about them when I got my first is200 Sport but learnt a heck of a lot from the members in the Mk 1 section. If its the headlight that is fogged up it will almost certainly be an MOT failure. The units are pretty darned expensive. I'd check first that the two access flaps are located and fitted correctly. They fit onto a rubber seating and a wire clip snaps the lot shut tight. If its poorly fitted that may be the problem. That needs to be sorted prior to buying IMO. Not sure if my diagnosis is right as it may be the road level foglight you are referring to. Hope its not this as they are right awkward buggers to get at. Check the lenses for chips/cracks. Get a costing from Lexus. You can always use that as a bargaining tool to get the price adjusted. I'm guessing you will not know if its Halogen lights or HID lights at this stage. If its HID lights there will be a 'Shock Hazard' warning on the front of the access flap.Follow the advice on the label. There are some very good leather workers out there. Ask around in your local area or perhaps a google search. Send them a photo if you can, it will help with their appraisal of how to treat. Hope they are only small bubbles from stone chips that have been left unattended. Lets face it....it happens. I have 3 or 4 on my bonnet but I touch them in as soon as I see one. Usually come to light when you wash the car...unless you actually see/hear the event. You can doubtless get a mobile 'chips away' type repair for this. So...... is this an SEL or an SE-i ????

Me too....I get fuel at Tesco's (its been very cheap recently with the token discounts they were offering against food purchases) and use the AR6200 (as i had some left over) at 5ml per 50 litres probably on 1 in 3 fillups if I'm honest about it.

I had a 220d and now have a 250 SEL. The is250 is miles ahead as an all round experience IMHO. Personally....I'd go for the auto..it is a fabulous gearbox...annual road tax is £290. Watch out for garages that list an SE-l for sale...as it kinda looks like they're saying SEL. It is very often an SE-i which is not the same at all. Forewarned is forearmed, there are some unscrupulous bar stewards out there.

"Whether your lights need adjusted or not, that beam pattern is not unusual" I don't profess to be an expert, by any means.....but, are you sure about that? I know the pattern will be different with the good old halogen bulbed headlight. But this is HID. The beam pattern is flat...flat as a pancake as near as dammit. Mine certainly are...anyone else? There is no 'flick up' on the lhs of each beam pattern ( as in illuminating the pavement edge). That's my understanding of how HID projectors work....but I'm quite happy to be proved wrong. There is a letter somewhere on this site, from Lexus GB, saying the beam pattern is flat - - - and for that reason HID lights do not require those beam bender kits when you drive in Europe. I'll see if I can locate it.

Ah.....it looks its lower on the right then. Hadn't really seen that until just then. Take a read here. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/94814-low-beam-headlight-adjustment-upwards/?hl=%2Bheadlight+%2Badjustment and http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/90944-headlight-adjustment-is250/?hl=%2Bheadlight+%2Badjustment and http://tinyurl.com/nfwmc82 (borrowed from Johnatg's post) Before you do anything I'd remove the engine covers so you can have a look around the light unit itself. Check if owt is loose or looking like someones been in there fiddling. If you want to try I'd find a perfectly flat standing for the car and a good flat dark wall to aim your lightbeams at. You are going to need to see things as clearly as possible. If you are going to adjust, mark the start point clearly first on the grubwheel so you can come back to this point and then the other way if necessary.

Fuel filler cap tight? Has been known to happen -
Just a note of caution. Be a little careful with these plastic bodied LED's in the main light cluster,ie using them for sidelights. If the main bulb is illuminated for a time the enclosure can get really quite hot. I checked some LED's I put in after 3 months and found they were showing signs of melting. I then switched to the metal type upper body led's and they are fine. For anyone who may not realise... the bulbs are polarity sensitive, so if the led bulb does not work, take it out, turn it through 180 degrees at the input end and it will then work. Put bulbs in with switch 'off' and try once in position. If its live and you touch the body with the led you'll pop a fuse which can be irritating if don't have any mini fuse spares.

I remember your monniker from the Mk1 section....I spent time there too. Glad you're liking the 250 ...they are cracking cars aren't they. The auto box is brilliant. Get to play with the paddles in time...they are great for a kick down and overtaking move. -

You'll get more response if you post this in the ISF section -
Good point there Noobie....sorry mate should have made that clearer. That will fit...I should have said 25mm overall length, and the diameter is OK too. They will flicker a tad as they go out ...but all LED's do that. Its a bit of a minefield looking for LED's....they all make different claims. Yes they do have more smd's, but the smd's are a lot smaller than mine. Last time i looked mine were about £4 for 20 delivered. They drop in price all the time. The only ones that seem to hold up a bit are the Cree type that can be used for sidelight and reversing lights. They can be £14-18 a pair for high brightness type. Eric...dead easy to get the mirror apart...just follow that Precision LED video. Shows exactly how to remove the mirror and dismantle the assembly.

Fuse Box

Yep, may well be. I had to replace mine on my mk1 is200 and it was a bit of a toad of a job. That one was bolted thru on the underside and very difficult to get at. -
Yep Noobie...you can put led puddle lights in. Did mine about a year or so ago. You need to ensure the new LED is no longer than 25mm or it wont fit. I got led's with 5smd (1 on the end and 1 on each of the side faces). The same ones would be used in the courtesy light above the windscreen and the bottom of the door. But not over the rear seat....that requires 2 festoon bulbs at about 28mm long

I have OEM 18" wheels and they are absolutely fine. No issues...the only one you'll have will be tyre choice. Get out and try as many cars as you can. You haven't indicated whether its Manual or Auto. Be aware the road tax can be quite a lot higher for the manual after a certain point....sorry not sure when exactly, but think it was around 06 where it changed from £280 to £460. Auto is currently £290pa. As has been indicated, one of the biggest issues is seized brake calipers. You need to know that the slide pins have been greased to ensure correct operation. Can be quite expensive to sort via Lexus. If you are handy with cars you can do it yourself, or use a good independent garage. It's worth reading back through many posts in this section....you will learn quite a lot about the 250 from doing that. Check if you have bluetooth functionality....as I believe Lexus were a little slow (polite version!!!) on this in the early models (started at 55 plate). I had a 07 220d which had no bluetooth function at all...had to put an aftermarket device in. The facelift model (09-on had most niggles ironed out from my experience). If you have any audio devices you may wish to connect there is a mini phono jack in the arm rest. You could check connection? Facelift cars have a USB port in there too. If you want the best model it will be the SEL to look for. As with any car...check everything is working correctly/ use your eyes/ suss the vendor...has the care the car been well maintained/ check the tyre wear/ drive it for a decent amount of time...i could go on for ages but you get the intent. Listen to the audio from all sources and listen to the speakers...fade front to back and left to right to ensure all are working and no distortions. Full service history is mandatory in my book. Pay attention to the exhaust and do a visual underneath as much as you can....has it been thumped on a kerb? They are very very expensive to replace and Lexus is your only route to a replacement should it be needed. Good luck, take your time and choose the car you want. Don't be seduced by wheels alone, nice as they appear...look at the whole package......closely. Best of luck with the hunt.
