Likely to be a setting in your key fob. If the button is pressed and held for a longish time (don't know time length) then all windows +sunroof will open. Purportedly to assist cooling of a hot car in the summer!! To my mind its a stupid idea. Quite a few folk have fallen foul of this in the past. Someone had a car full of snow! Think you have to get Lexus to change the settings electronically. Borrow a dehumidifier and leave it in car all night....should extract most of it pretty quickly. Bloody irritating I'm sure!!!!

Winter Driving
normski2 replied to Burroo 67's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Snow! Whats that then? Don't get much of that down here in the tropics. Seriously though...yep you can use SNOW mode as it restricts the welly at your foot. I tend to use mine in manual mode so i can hold it in a given gear...which the auto box tries to do going up through the gears. Thus far its worked well. I don't have winter tyres either...just Goodyears. -

If you are thinking of doing it yourself, it may be worth having a read through this article http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/83871-project-car-wrap-2012-f-sport-bumper-led-headlamps-and-turn-signal-mirrors/page-3 as he changed his headlights to have the new DRL's onboard and dealt with the wiring side too as I recall.. The whole article is worth a damned good read, just for what the guy has done. Staggering!!!! -

Makes no rational sense on any level. This was said to me in 2010 by those twerps at Elephant. My response was " No....what it tells me is Wales is a dangerous place to drive. I arrive and get rear shunted ( small but irritating damage) on day 1....therefore Wales is a dangerous place to drive" ( incidentally,no claim was made, 3rd party forked out for the lot) "That's not right they replied...that doesn't mean that at all" To which i replied " my deduction makes as much sense and bears as much relevance as yours does" I left Elephant and took my business elsewhere (bye bye forever Elephant, Admiral et al). A friendly, honest chat with my next insurer and they removed the case from my history. They did say it was common practice to assume one is more likely to make another having made a claim. They admitted it does seem silly that despite the fact I did not make a claim...I'm assumed to have made a theoretical one. -
Michael Varying mpg on the diesel lex is fairly common unfortunately. When i had mine I used to get 39mpg around town and 49+ on a decent run. I was lucky...maybe i had a good one. Friend in my village had the sport Diesel and only got 36mpg at best. Not everyone rates it ...opinions are divided... but I used BG additives. One in the fuel at fill up and 1 every 6-8000mls as a top end cleaner. Learn how to clean your EGR...plenty of vids on Youtube...you'll be glad if you do. This is particularly important if you do shorter journeys. The EGR can get get badly coked up. If you want to read about the additives go here http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/ I used the BG244....whole can in full tank every 6-8000 miles, and AR6200...fuel additive....at 5ml per 50 litres of fuel at top ups. All I can say is for me it seemed to work well. The EGR was not so filthy at each check...just a light dusting inside. perhaps have a read through this http://www.oilem.com/fuel-catalysts-archoil-ar6200-2/ Best of luck with it all. There is lots on this forum about the 220d .... so have a good read of as much as you can. Forewarned is forearmed.

Dah.... rotten luck mate. Hope it all gets sorted OK for you. -
Give this a lot of thought. As much as I liked my 220 when I had it....i had the Head gasket go...it would have been thousands were it not covered by Lexus warranty. I was not a huge fan of the clutch or the gear box on the 220. For me 6th gear was useless unless doing 90mph. The 250 is a completely different driving experience. The auto box is wonderful. But, it does less mpg on paper. In reality, you'll see a lot of people saying they only get 30 - 38 mpg from the diesel. So not much in it at all. For me it's a no brainer....250 every time.

Can battery chargers cause a diode failure? I was led to believe this was the case....so I've always disconnected both clamps whenever I've had to charge a battery. It's usually the wifes MX5 after we've come back from hols! John...you've made a good point about the earth strap. I know the earth to body strap connection has been an issue for some 220/250's

As well as the above, Also, Have a look in your glovebox. Check there is nothing like a CD case that has popped up the cabin filter cover and jammed the upper casing of the cabin filter. Sounds daft but it has happened. If you know how to do it ( if not there is doubtless something on Youtube)....remove that cover piece. Put the a/c into recirculate and turn ignition off. The lid over the filter should be in the up position...ie so you can get at it and change it. If its not then you may have a lever selector problem for the a/c. I do remember this being mentioned about 4 years ago, when I had a 220d. I'm not saying it is definitely this but its worth checking out. It could be that a previous repair has come unstuck? I know this symptom has come up in the past. Hopefully someone with a 220d will be along to chip in soon.

Not sure the dealers would be able to help you with this. Sounds like something you'd have more luck by contacting Windscreen replacement companies ( Autoglass, National Windscreens etc etc) about. Pretty sure whenever they replace a windscreen on a Lexus that they replace these strips too as they often break upon removing the damaged windscreen.

Door Mirror Indicator
normski2 replied to IS200D's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Only just saw this post. Are you wanting to dismantle the mirror casing? If so take a look here Just scroll forward to the bit where the side mirror is dismantled. Hope that helps -
This sums it up quite nicely Aniline leather is a very soft and natural type of leather, as it is only dyed and contains no pigmented surface coating. As such, it soaks in stains and dirt very easily Doubt you have it in your car.....it would get dirty far too quickly.

Goodbye Is250C
normski2 replied to RayKhan's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Me too. Always liked the look of the 250C. Performance side of it does not bother me...I'm no speed merchant. I'm happy to waft along enjoying it all. Maybe it's the open air thing you're not too keen on. Well used to that....forever pinching my wifes MX5 for a quick jolly!! She's now after the newer roadster with the folding metal roof. -
I agree The clicking thing would seem to indicate the battery has had it. Thats the first thing i'd look at.Especially as it's potentially 8 yrs old. While your at it get a couple of spares for your key fob. Easily got from Ebay. As you've only just taken ownership you're not going to know how old the fob batteries are. Pop a sticker in there with a date on it then you always know the facts. The fob battery will last typically a couple of years

Perhaps it's time to sell it and move back to petrol power, which will mean no more lexus as I don't want an auto. Have you tried the auto box? It is very very good. You also have the steering wheel paddles when you want to play at a bit of manual driving. Try it....you will I hope, be very surprised. I know I was.

Starting Problem
normski2 replied to lonely sky's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I agree with John. I'd be looking at the battery earth connection to the bodywork. This has come up before. Also check the main fuse in the fuse box under the bonnet. It's a biggun and is a right bugger to change if it's the same fitment as the is200. Anyone tried to give you a jumpstart and got the connections wrong way round?
