  1. I guess you could use a weeny bit of grease..not much .. the parts look like nylon and as such are sort of self lubricating in function. Well done on finding it. Good write up that.
  2. If its the worm gear that's stripped, there is a fix. I think it was either Noobie or Johnatg that put up a good write up with pics. Try the search option to find it.
  3. Make sure you have the button depressed to either L or R...this will activate the mirror tilt if it is available. If the button is in the 'centre' or neutral position they will not tilt. Handy to know if you are reversing uphill ..can be better with mirrors not tilted.
  4. I've had the onscreen cursor sat in slightly the wrong place if that's what you mean. Happened in France last year. If i remember correctly i pressed any other button (eg Audio then went back to Map) and we were back on the autoroute!
  5. Think Jules means the MAF...the Mass Air Flow meter. You can do a solvent clean on it..worth trying...check out vids on youtube.
  6. Personally,.... I wouldn't do it.Lexus got badly burnt with the 220d effort and dropped it. Take a read through these and see what you think. Please think long and hard about this.
  7. The Efficientgrip was not available in the size for my rear tyres ..(think it was 245?) That's why I had Assymetric 2's for the rear. They were also much quieter on road noise. That's only my observations ... others may have equally good alternatives.
  8. This may be of interest .... this was my thoughts back in 2014 or so, I had Turanzas and Potenzas in my time on 220d and 250. Have to say ...I found them hopeless. They grip fine but boy were they noisy and the tram-lining was horrendous at times. I'm on 18" too by the way. Don't know that you can make the ride softer with 18's and 40. If you went down to a 17" or 16" with a fatter tyre then it may get softer. I must say...I don't find my ride 'hard' to the point of annoyance at all. Anyway, I now have Goodyears ...Assymetric 2's on the rear.....very pleased after some 4 months or so. On the front I went for Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance 2......why? Well, I read a few reviews that praised their price, grip, fuel economy, quietness and lack of tram lining. Found it to be very true. Ride is much quieter and have no tram lining whatsoever. All those regular spots on my journey to work and around town that tram-lined before have all been eradicated. Very pleased. Still very pleased with ride, grip and road noise suppression. No tram lining.
  9. God that must be infuriating. A neighbour of mine has just experienced the same thing. He was sat in his car with his wife, parked, in a local Co-Op when the driver in the next bay did exactly the same. The lady got out and offered profuse apologies and accepted it was her fault, blah, blah. My neighbour is very proud of his S reg Scorpio Cosworth and has really looked after it. When the insurance companies were notified the culprit denied doing it!! Thankfully a member of staff at The Co-Op had witnessed the event and produced the necessary. Suddenly she accepted it was really her fault. The neighbours' car was written off and he has bought it back from the insurers and had his own repair undertaken. He has been left traumatised by the whole process and feels very let down. Most of the problem seems to be down to stupidly over the top repair estimates.
  10. Please please please Read up as much as you can about the diesel IS. There is loads here on this forum to make you think. Forewarned is forearmed ... you need to be considering this with your eyes wide open. For what it's worth .. I'd look at the IS250 Auto. It's a cracking good (seemingly bullet proof) car and will return very similar mpg to what I see diesel IS drivers getting. The Auto variant (£290) is cheaper on Road Tax than the Manual (£490) ..... well, in the UK it is. Sorry, I don't mean to burst your bubble ... but you need to find out the facts of what can go wrong and the money pit that may develop.
  11. Please think long and hard about this. I had a 07 220d and the head went in 3 months. It was gutting......and I eventually got Lexus support to fund it all. You won't have that option. You can't hope for the best on what may be a ticking time bomb and money pit. I moved on to the 250....best thing I ever did. You know what too, a lot of 220d owners get very similar mpg to what pretty much all 250 owners see. Get a 250 Auto .... That's my advice.
  12. Looking good ... nice job. You are right to be concerned about colour matching. Its a more complicated finish, achieved in layers. So matching is tricky. I'd like to do one bit but everyone I have seen so far says they would have to do the entire side .... and even they were concerned about the bumper wrap around. Yikes. And all caused by a moron in a Zafira at John Lewis at Christmas. Saw it as we came down the elevator, ran like hell out of the store .... gone!! For now I'm doing it with my own repair kit over several months ... building and sinking back. Could do with some of that sun you have over there.
  13. The auto fold mirrors came in with the facelift version. You can get a kit to achieve this from Michael at ashpoint if you want it. Quite a few owners have done it.
  14. Glad to be of help. The air filter thing is just plain stupid .. Get it sorted Lexus, it really is not good enough. Thanks for the insights into tyre gunk. That's good to hear there is a water soluble pack ... That I guess can be simply washed out ... Makes sense.
  15. You're right, the modern trend does not sit easy with me either. I have the same issue with the prospect of replacing my wife's MX-5 with the newer folding roof variant (much like the 250C in operation). There is no spare just a can of gunk to ruin the tyre (so I've heard) in the event of a puncture. We have a 'run home' in the present MX-5. I was mighty pleased too when we had a puncture, way up in the mountains between Annecy and Chamonix. Quite a few chaps with the CT200h have opted to get a run home wheel and secure it in the boot. The 250C is a very nice car indeed. Pop that stick over to manual mode and use the paddles. Once you get the hang of it, I honestly think you will be quite surprised how well it goes. It may not be a turbo rocket but it's enough to put a smile on my face.
  16. Does that mean you don't have a 'run home' wheel in the 250C? Those vids made me chuckle. I had some when she was serviced at Lexus. Whilst in the car park I opened the bonnet and checked the air filter ....it was blacker than a bag of coal. When I pointed this out the reply was "we only change those every 35,000 mls as scheduled. You are 7,000 mls off that". My response was, well you should at the very least do a visual ... it took me 5 mins to get the old filter out and inspect it. Hardly time consuming. 35,000 mile between changes is ridiculous. I do mine myself ( and the cabin filter at same time ) every 12 months or 12,000 mls whichever comes first. I go to an indy now. The owner had a Lexus 250 so knows exactly what to do. Including greasing the slider pins!!
  17. Think John is on the right tack here. You mentioned the coolant was low so there may be a stack of air fed to the heater matrix for the interior heating. I had this on my is200 years ago. I'm struggling to remember exactly what i did to bleed it. I'm thinking there was a bleed screw on the matrix itself. Trouble is I may be recalling a similar thing I had on a Nissan. I'll get my coat!
  18. The best thing to do when you experience this is to turn up the temp a few degrees at a time until you reach a point where the introduced air starts to get warmer. At least this will indicate all is well. It's worth remembering, it may be warmer in the car than you think it actually is, which will result in the system blowing colder air to reduce the interior temp back to its chosen (23) setting. I know it may sound odd but I proved this point to my wife the other morning driving in to work. She had turned down the temp setting a few degrees and then wondered why her legs were feeling cold air. It was pretty cold outside but the car had been in early morning sun, albeit not hot sun. It was still enough to elevate the interior temp above the setting. Hope that helps.
  19. Ooooerrr....mine has settings for me and the missus. Unfortunately she really likes driving the 250. She even wants to demo the auto box version on her potential newer MX-5!!!
  20. Gutted for you matey. This is hideous. Hope to God it sorts it for you.
  21. I know that this member http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/profile/38756-carl911/ Carl911 used to have a 220d and that he changed an injector himself. It would be worth sending him a message to see if he can help you. He is very approachable and altogether a good fellow. If he can offer you advice I'm sure he will. Hope that helps. You may of course quote me as your link to Carl.
  22. Nice one! You'll be spending a lot of time in that 250 ... its a very nice place to sit. Well you have me thinking now, on the memory seat thing. IIRC you just turn the ignition on to the first stage (amber light). Adjust your seat and mirrors how you want and press and hold SEAT 1 until it beeps, then its set. Take the settings on the seat way out and then press SEAT 1 button and the seat should revert to how you set it as preference.
  23. I was wondering what was going to happen .... ie yay or nay. Pretty confident you will not regret this one little bit. For me its a step up from the IS200.
