looking for is250 auto
normski2 replied to ste42's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Aside to all the bits covered. Don't put too much in the FLSH. Whilst it can be perceived as being a good thing, and generally it is. I find it a bit questionable and unreliable in some areas that cause concern, for me at least. For example, the air filter is scheduled for changing every 35,000 mls (utterly ridiculous). If (as I experienced) your car is at say 66,000, then Lexus won't even lift the lid to look at it. That is plainly not good practice!!!! Lexus services will never look at the slide pins in the brake calipers....again, ridiculous!! They would rather hit you for 400 a corner to replace seized brake calipers every 30,000 mls If the vehicle has around the 60,000 mls or is 5 to 6 years old then ensure it has had the big service including the spark plugs changed (often referred to as the 60,000 service) If the vehicle has the Mark Levison/sat nav/ reversing camera screen. There have been a few reports of touch screen break downs on the pre face lift models (55 - 09 plates). If you look to Lexus it can be £2000 or more. You can find replacement screens from the far east on Ebay. There are some accounts on this forum of how the screen was replaced. Take a look at the water pump and look for leaks at the pulley .... another known issue. Take a good look at the exhaust...very very expensive and not available elsewhere thus far. Talk to the owner and you can very rapidly establish if the owner has a care for their car or not. Best of luck. They are jolly nice cars. -
Sat Nav update

Hi Geoff My is250 has the Hard Drive system. The Nav data is stored within this. The updates for mine is done via a USB stick ...that only Lexus can do. It was around £150 the last time I had it done. I suspect your is300h will be the same method. -
You could try a trawl through Ebay. Try searching for something like "Miniature 12v Electric motor" Along these lines. Perhaps get one out and take pics and measurements. You can send pics to a seller. Some are very helpful. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Miniature-Small-Electric-Motor-Brushed-1-5V-12V-DC-for-Models-Crafts-Robots-/130773600534?var=&hash=item1e72b6c916:m:m9RPJpyNzWq1BpkMYNvQIEg

Sadly, I'm inclined to agree with you. Lexus just do not make wheels suitable to the European environment. Salted roads in the winter? I bought a 'bargain' brand new set for my old is200. They were knacked in 3 years. Hideous lumps and patches ... particularly near the valve stem. Mine are now displaying the same corrosion and bulges. It ain't good enough Lexus...not at £360 per wheel!!!!! I shall be getting mine refurbed in the next couple of months. I've seen some 4yr old ones done by this firm and they are still spot on, £280 all in.

Inlet manifold clean

That is a lot of carbon/soot. Job worth doing! Makes you wonder how many other diesels are out there with the same problem. My daughter in laws' Freelander has just had a similar outcome. Vehicle starts and runs so much better now. -
New Smart key (Fob)

I'm sure a member said, maybe within the last 18 months, that they had manged to get a firm to do this at much reduced cost. Have you tried doing a search within this Forum? It would be worth trawling back to see if you can find it. -
Hi chaps Is there a way of allowing OP's to edit their posts in the 'How To' section. Editing is allowed in the main forum but I can't see a way to do it in the How To section ... or have I missed something? I've noticed that some of the guides are a bit out of kilter following the site upgrade. I'd be quite happy to go in and attend to mine to get them looking right again. Doubtless others would too. Just a thought.

If you are thinking of changing the Cabin/Pollen filter here is a mini guide on how to do it. Remember to put the a/c system into "recirculate" mode before you start. If you have done this the lid over the filter will be up when you remove the cover at the back of the glovebox. On no account try to force up the cover to get at the filter ... you will damage the selector levers and it is either very time consuming and fiddly to repair, or will cost ££££'s at Lexus. If its not up...turn the ignition 'ON' and select recirculate ... you should see the cover lid lift up to reveal the filter. 10 - 20 minute job. Fiddliest bit is removing the shelf bits in the glovebox compartment. The picture should make it all clear.

18 inch Winter tyres
normski2 replied to nakulan7's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I think that is exactly what some folk have done. If you want it from the horses mouth, give Lexus a ring they should be able to confirm it. -
3.4 looks correct to me.

18 inch Winter tyres
normski2 replied to nakulan7's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Yes, mine has the same size tyres and wheels. The rear wheels/tyres are wider than the fronts...referred to as a staggered arrangement I'm told. I think its the standard layout for those vehicles with 18" wheels. I'm not sure if a 225 could be stretched for the wider rear wheel. Some folk go the route of getting a set of 17" wheels/tyres just for winter use. -
Is your mirror selector button pressed down into either Left or Right? If it's in the mid position the mirrors won't tilt when you select reverse. It's worth checking. As far as I am aware the mirror tilt is not set within those personalised functions that only Lexus can do. I would have expected your car to have the mirror tilt.....it's the same as mine, year wise.

You need to pull quite forcefully ( in a radially upward fashion) to get the mirror away from its fixings. Slip your fingers under the bottom of the mirror edge and place thumbs centrally on the mirror face ... that gives a bit more confidence in not cracking the mirror in half!! Once you've done it you'll get the knack. Likewise the reattachment. Get in there and go for it. Or if you're ever Bournemouth way I'll do it for you.

Excellent piece of work.
