Engine cover clips
normski2 replied to ahmedali44's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I always pop the 4 covers off the car when I take it in for MOT. I like the tester chap...he's a good egg ...and he told me they are not allowed to remove them. Only takes a couple of minutes ..no biggee really -
AFS Lighting Working?

Think you have to be doing around 30mph for the AFS to function -

Hi and welcome aboard Slide Pins....look no further than here. Noobie has also done some splendid guides on changing the 2 oxygen sensors under the bonnet. And if you are considering changing the Cabin/Pollen filter behind the glove box ...please read and understand this first. 'Recirc mode' is critical or you could face a large bill to sort out a broken selector The 'How to' section has some very useful info, but unfortunately some of the photos are missing after the last site update/rebuild. I'm sorry to say original poster's have no way of getting back into their posts to edit/correct them . Hope that helps

Diesel bashing
normski2 replied to Shahpor's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Rebecca ... this is how to clean the EGR. It's well worth learning and doing it every 6-8000 miles. Once you've done it a couple of times its easy and can be done in 30 minutes. -
Diesel bashing
normski2 replied to Shahpor's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Quite so ..... and it seems most if not all of the modern breed of diesels need to be motorway munchers. They need the longer trips to get the internally built cleaning methods working. Getting the diesel to be more environmentally friendly has come with quite a few consequences .... those things that are not explained(or probably even understood) by the dealers or second hand traders. I had a 220d and fell foul of the head gasket problem after 6 weeks of ownership ... I was lucky to have Lexus sort it out ( for £4600). My 220d was one of the good'uns it would seem...I would get 39-44mpg with relative ease and up to 54 on a good run. The turbo was great and really gave it some oomph and the cabin was a nice place to be at speed....less so pootling around town. The gearbox took some getting used to, 6th was never used. The EGR was a pain for clogging so I cleaned it every 6000 miles and I regularly used additives to the fuel to assist with a cleaner burn. Then I began to realise the folly of having a diesel that was not doing big miles annually. So........here I am now with a 250 Auto and absolutely love it. Honestly can't think of anything I'd rather have .... apart from my missus' MX5 for a couple of hours open top fun every now and then. As an aside, we're off to see our Son in Bristol at the weekend. The 220d would average 44mpg and the 250 returns 34mpg on the exact same route. -
Radio reception
normski2 replied to is200 Newbie's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Just a thought ..... but, ....... could that sensor also be a trigger for the 'Battery Low' warning on the dash. Maybe it interprets heat sensed as a forewarning of a dying battery. Just a wild gues -
Radio reception

I know the connector you mean. Been there myself. I was unsure to its relevance at the time.... about 3 years ago. I think someone said they thought it was a heat sensor of sorts. But I could equally be way off the mark. Good that you have radio back though. -
Given the mileage you mention. I'd also do a solvent clean of the MAF sensor on the uptake pipe from the air filter box. If only to remove it as a potential issue. A dirty MAF wire can cause rough idle and lumpiness. Just unplug it, unscrew and pull the whole item out and thoroughly spray with contact cleaner, leave to dry and pop it all back together. There are loads of Vids on Youtube about MAF cleaning if you are at all unsure Something like this will do

Recall
normski2 replied to is200 Newbie's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I had letters for both recalls. The fuel seal was done some time ago. Still waiting for the air-bag recall to be done. I can't see how these could not be done as the are safety related recalls. Give your local Lexus dealership a polite nudge. I shall be doing likewise about the air bag. Send an email and then you have documented trail to reference and act as back up to your case. -
HID - MoT

Blimey....really? Windscreen excess is normally £75 to £100. Its £100 on my policy that I have just started. They seem to be edging it up a bit as the screens are getting more elaborate.... and no doubt more expensive. -
Exactly what I was hoping you would say Welcome, to a refined driving experience Keep an eye on tyre wear. Particularly the inside edge of the fronts. Consider getting 4 wheel geometry done every 12/18 months or so. Yes, its £60 or so but tyres are expensive...particularly if you have 18" wheels. Was it an SEL or SEi that you have?

Key Fob replacement batteris
normski2 replied to bluenose1940's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
+ 1 to that. I do the same...usually get 5 at a time. I put a sticky label with the date on it inside the fob so I know when i last changed the battery. Change both and put 1 fresh one in my holiday pack (just in case!). Just done my wife's new(er) mx5 fobs.....£1.49 delivered...most shops will shaft you £2.50 each or more. Sometimes you can get erroneous 'low battery' warnings. Had one a couple of months ago and nothing since...battery is only 7 months from insertion. Maybe the key fob was in a different place to usual. -
You have my sympathies. That is a horrible year of ownership. Can't say I blame you one little bit. Interestingly you have pretty much encapsulated all the major issues, that forum members have commented on, of the 220d in that post. On a lighter note .... the IS250 Auto Petrol is light years away from the 220d.

Yep it can happen My fob played up due to a malfunctioning wireless doorbell at a customers house. It was a right pain as it had just started raining heavily...ended up getting drenched. Someone else had an issue with a wireless router doing the same at a boatyard.

According to a write up on the US Lexus forum by our US cousins... they are...and I quote To remove sills and B-pillar cover, just pull them off. They're just held on by plastic clips. Hope that helps If you want a looksee its here http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-f-2008-2014/450567-the-definitive-is-f-illuminated-door-sills-scuff-plate-installation-guide-w-photos.html
