Hi all, I'm looking to fit a Bilstein suspension kit for my GS430 2005 3rd gen but it seems they don't do one for this model/year so my question is will the 2nd gen suspension kit fit ? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi all, can the "moon roof " be adjusted manually as when I try to open mine it seems to try to move back before it drops down to then slide back and makes a loud band as it is pushing against the rear of the opening? This seems to have happened after I tried to open it while driving and my mate also at the same time pressed the tilt button. I've tried doing a reset by pressing the up button and letting it go through its sequence but hasn't made any difference it also won't do a auto one press open/close thing it's that bad that I'm concerned that it might shatter or bend the car roof. My car is a 2005 GS430 Thanks for your replies in advance Brian.

Hi all, can anyone tell me how the AFS system works on the 3rd gen gs430 please only my afs light will sometimes start to flash for no reason even while stationary. I've, checked both height sensors and no broken or bent arms there. This afs light will illuminate for weeks and then go out for a short while then come back on randomly what makes the o/s headlight turn when cornering is there a problem there I'm just trying to get it sorted without going into lexus. Kind Regards Brian.

Hi Jeff, I've just had mine replaced Pagid disc's and pads all round " euro carparts" blackfriday deal £205 then got my local garage to fit them for £108 total price £313 Inc absolutely brilliant for such a top quality brand and they were for a 2005 gs430 with the 334mm brakes. Hope this gives you a good idea as to what is out there Brian.

Hi all, As per title does anyone know how to remove the rear head rests on a 2005 lexus gs430 as I wish to clean my rear window and with these in place it's near impossible. I can lift them up to the roof lining but am worried that if I force them I will either damage the roof lining or the head rests themselves also iv'e noticed just recently that during braking I can here a knocking noise from my n/s/f brake, now is this the low pad warning sound?, or is that more like a metal to metal noise when that occurs. Kind Regards Brian.

Hi Tiger Fish, I was looking on euro car parts using my reg number and they list Bembo @296 mm and Pagid @334 mm so that's why I asked the question as both sizes were listed against my reg number . Cheers Brian

Hi all, with regards to this topic the HG sniff test as was explained to me works by a chemical reaction of the coolant vapour passing through a chemical that changes colour when hydrocarbons are present hence a HG leak. Hydrocarbons should not come into contact with water in the cooling system unless there is a HG leak. This I assume is the modern way of detecting a HG problem as apposed to the compression test which measures cylinder pressure which could be valves or piston ring issues. Cheers Brian.

Hi Steve, my son had one of those HG sniffer tests done on his 500 bhp evo just to make sure all was ok with his engine so because I love my lexus with a passion I decided to have the test done on the lexus. The result was a slight colour change in the test device to which I was told by the garage it indicated a HG problem. I had the water pump replaced recently and was wondering if there was a possibility of cross contamination some how with the water. I have no overheating or coolant loss but I do get mayo in the oil filler cap but hopefully this is down to me doing very short journeys to work eg 1 mile each way . On long runs 20-30 mile runs no mayo. Kind Regards Brian.

Hi, looking for some advice about possible head gasket issue on an 05 gs430 which has covered 105k. just had one of those sniff test/head gasket test which results in a colour change if head gasket is leaking, Well there was a colour change but was debatable to what extent, I had recently had a new water pump fitted and was wondering if somehow there could have been some cross contamination during this procedure also any ideas on cost at an indy garage to have them done if need be? only don't want to wait till they go and leave me in the lurch. I also wish to add that I do very short journeys which seems to result in having mayo in the oil filler cap, but don't have the mayo issue on longer journeys and I have no overheating issues or coolant loss. Thanks in advance Bri.

Hi mate, I had the same problem replaced both cats and 4 sensors at a cost of £1200 turned out to be a very slight leak on exhaust after the down stream sensor only picked up on it by chance so replaced exhaust with stainless steel £575 grand total of £1800 at least I know my cats won't need doing for at least 100000 miles . Hi guys, sorry for the delay in replying to the replies to my thread but there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day anymore lol, anyway in relation to my thread iv'e had no issues with my light problem since I swapped the bulbs over from side to side in April this year and yes they were standard spec bulbs but looking at some replies about the light out put degrading over time ( I think my bulbs are original) and don't seem as bright as some other xenon lights I might consider replacing them. Cheers Brian.

Hi, I just thought that this info might be of use to anyone encountering intermittent hid headlight problems. A few months ago I had my o/s dipped beam hid headlight going off after a couple of minutes and after switching them off then back on it would come on again only to go off again after a short time. This would happen randomly and not every day ( no bulb out warning on dash) and was advised by several members that the said bulb was starting to fail. Checked a out replacement pair and found them to be around £50-60 so before a shelled out for these bulbs I decided to swap them over from side to side to rule out a ballast problem and on removing the bulbs I noticed that the o/s bulb had a slight burn/corrosion mark on the side contact point which when you swap them over this contact point is in a different place and hey presto intermittent has disappeared. Kind Regards Brian

Hi all, As title I have a GS 430 2005 Lexus and was wondering what the Power switch for the engine and the Sport switch for the gearbox do?. I'm old school and from what I remember the sport switch for the gearbox used to hold on to the gears longer up the rev range but mine changes normal no matter what mode its in. Also the power/snow button what does this supposed to do when In power mode? does it increase bhp/torque to the engine? and also I have adaptive headlights how do these work? do they turn like some citroens do or does the relevant front fog light come on as most new cars?. Kind Regards Brian.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply and sorry for me taking too long in replying. With regards to my question having got this problem P0420 fault code iv'e spent up to date £1900 trying to eliminate this. The reason for my question was D J Auto's in Stoke diagnosed it as "according to Auto Data" that fault code P0420 is Bank 1 drivers side "WRONG" Bank 1 according to Lexus is passenger side "RIGHT" .after having spent £1325 up to now having both cats and new up stream and down stream sensors replaced without success it was by chance "clutching at straws" that a very small exhaust leak some 5" after the down stream 02 sensor on the passenger side which D J Auto's didn't think would affect the sensor might be the problem so a quick trip and £575 lighter I had a full stainless system fitted a hey presto no recurring P0420 fault code. Kind Regards Brian.

Hi Colin, Thanks for your reply the reason why both cats were replaced was the left bank reading on the diagnostic machine indicated the cat was knackered and Duncan explained that the reading on the right bank "although no fault code" was not far off being knackered as well , so thinking that if the left one is knackered and the right one ain't looking too good he advised and I totally agree with him like if your n/s brake pads were knackered and your o/s weren't far off you wouldn't just replace the n/s would you?. Anyway he did replace the 02 up stream sensor with a Lexus supplied one but in regards to the "genuine" cats thing what makes him suspicious is the fact they arrived unboxed and he says that this kind of stuff always comes in sealed boxes. In regards to MAF sensor surely that would affect both banks?. He also did a check for air leaks and even removed a left bank spark plug just to make sure they had been replaced with the right ones as specified by Lexus which they have, this car has always been serviced at Lexus of Leicester from new. Kind Regards Brian

Hi All, an update of my P0420 fault code. Well iv'e had both cats replaced with genuine Lexus ones by D J Auto's but the lights and fault code reappear after a short time few days got back in touch with Duncan at D J Auto's took car back to be put on diagnostic machine he wasn't happy with the left bank up stream reading wasn't smooth as the right bank reading so he recommended a new up stream 02 sensor put that on this morning slight improvement on the smoothness reading but he still wasn't happy with it he then checked the spark plugs to see of they had been replaced with the correct ones during its Lexus servicing and they were ok lights back on with same fault code. He is now going to contact Lexus Technical Department to seek their advice because he's a bit suspect about the cats he had from Lexus because they arrived unboxed and possibly not Lexus genuine ones?. If the Technical department come back and insist the problem is definitely the cats then Toyota/Lexus are in for a right roasting. Anyone had any problems with parts from Lexus not being genuine or can anyone shed any light on possible fix/cure as I'm now £1300 out of pocket and fault still there. Kind Regards Brian.

Hi Stu, Thanks for your reply I did call a couple of custom exhaust and cat manufactures localish to me and none seemed to offer the same or similar amount of cells that are in the genuine Lexus ones and those that were close cost more than the genuine Lexus cats strange that anyway car booked in at D J Autos tomorrow so should be back to normal and judging by the googleing these cats only last around 100,000 miles so at 98,000 they were due to give up the ghost. Many Thanks Brian

Hi Colin, Thanks for your reply Duncan from DJ Auto's explained everything to me during the diagnosis on my car showing me the up stream and down stream figures although he didn't do a CO reading from the exhaust, I would like to think he hasn't duped me as he has excellent recommendations from all who use him and he did explain during the diagnosis what was wrong. His total cost for the job is £1078 which taking into account the cost of the 2 cats £890 plus £40 for new gaskets he's charging me £157 for fitting which I don't think is bad. Thanks Brian
