The adaptive cruise in a 460 does give up in really heavy rain - I think the radar doesn't get through the rain. More excitingly, if you arrive at a roundabout and brake to stop because someone else is travelling across your path too rapidly, for instance, the cameras pick this up. Then there is the sound of the unlocking door, plus the electric seatbelt retractors, which pull the two front seatbelts as tight as they can, stopping you breathing for 5 or so seconds. I love it! It's only happened to me three times in 14 years of ownership, but these were indeed high points! There are other things that happen as well. The suspension hardens up, and both the brakes and the steering amplify your actions for those few seconds, but these are secondary! The car does give you a very good sense of security. : o )

The other thing that happens when the head rests go off is that the doors all click unlocked, and then, when there is no collision, they immediately click locked again. When the forward facing precrash goes off, it's even more spectacular. : o )

Cars built after Nov 07 are fine to use with E10, but even though your car is first registered in 09 I'd still check. It was the time of the economy crash, and suddenly in 07 Lexus found themselves with too many LSs that no one could afford to buy. The only way to be sure is to check your VIN with Lexus, but alternatively, pull a tag out from the bottom of a seatbelt. This will show the date the seatbelt was made, which will then give an indication of when the car was built. Another clue is the adaptive cruise. Earlier cars have adaptive cruise that goes all the way down to stationary, whereas later ones the adaptive cruise turns off at a certain speed.

No, it isn't for the 460. The L shows that it has all the kit. The car is just a smidgen over 5m long, the same as a 430. However, the way that 460s lose in car parks is that they don't have quite the same tight turning circle as the 430s had.

Hi Lewis, be aware when you go to see the car that it's an SE variant, not an SE-L, so it doesn't come with a full box of toys - adaptive cruise? LKA? I'm not saying not to get it because of this, but bear it in mind when you're negotiating - "Ah, it's a lovely car, but there are so many SE-Ls around that maybe I should go and look at one of those" <g> From the fact that they haven't included full on pictures of the steering wheel, I think they know this. : o )

You can always use voice recognition. "FM Radio", "FM Radio On", "Radio Off", "CD" : o ) (and I don't suppose anyone listens to AM radio anyway!)

I'm a bit shocked that you feel the need to remap! When the ECT is set to POWER, the car lets the engine rev all the way up to near it's max and keeps it that way when you move through the gears, and for me the acceleration from it's 380ish bhp has always been more than enough! If you really need a bit of extra speed away from the lights, you can always force the car into first gear. Normally, a 460 doesn't use it's first gear. It sets off in second, even on full throttle. It does have a first gear though. To use it from stationary, push the pedal to the floor (and you start in second), but then release it back to behind the kickdown position, and push it down (through kickdown) again. You can do this manouvre in well under a second, and the result can cause surprise. The standard exhaust has already been tuned to make noise when producing power, which you can't hear very well inside the car, but others can. I much preferred the setup on my earlier Mk3 400, where the car was virtually silent. : o )

Though we've been isolating all of this time, I've been watching these 18 reg cars for the last year or so. It seems to me that they've put a lot of thought into the design of the interior of the car, and that these permanent screens have been added as a marketing thing, and to me they are just unwanted clutter. Maybe I need to wait for their EV LS to appear, and hope they realise what they've been doing wrong. Graham and Dave ... I'm not dissing your cars, I know they'll be lovely! : o )

Hi folks, the screens in the back of the LS500h ... do they fold away or detach if you don't want to have them sticking up all the time? From what I can gather, they don't.

There was a problem with a limited number of 460s and 600s early on - I think there were only about forty cars in the UK that suffered from a problem which left the steering wheel askew if you returned rapidly from cornering to a straight line, at low speed. VOSA was informed, and you can check on the gov.uk's 'check mot' page to see if there is an outstanding recall on your car. Look at its MOT history, and go to the bottom of the page. In the USA I believe about 10,000 cars were recalled. The big recall for all of these cars was, of course, that the valve springs were too weak, and had to be replaced. If your car has been anywhere near a dealer since it was new then almost certainly it will have had either or both of these problems fixed. I'm sorry that I can't be of any real help.

No, not a detective. Back in 2007 I decided I wanted an LS. The prices were changing so quickly at that time I wrote a program to quickly scrape the Lexus website every morning when I turned on my computer, and store the data. After I'd bought the car I just let the program continue until Lexus changed the people who did their website. : o )

Hi Ross, your 460 doesn't have an adaptive gearbox. Earlier ones did - my 400 and my 430 both had them. I didn't like it because the gearbox didn't always behave in the same way - if I'd been on a long journey the car drove differently when I started the next day compared to if I'd just been driving locally. The 460 gearbox doesn't adapt, and, especially as it has enough power to do whatever you want, I think it's a better arrangement. The ECT thing, as people have said, changes how your gearbox responds. I always leave mine in the PWR postion, because this means that the gearbox always drops into the right gear at the right time. People who say that the 460 has too many gears have, I think been using the the car with the switch in the centre position. In PWR it's always there in the right gear for you. Incidentally, I used to drive along the same stretch of motorway fairly often, and measured fuel consumption with the cruise control set, and in this situation there was no reduction in mpg over my set distance of 40 or so miles. The lack of power thing, I had that. After a few bits of nonsense, a (Lexus) mechanic suggested that it needed it's throttle body cleaning. He did that, and it cleared the problem. : o )

The GU prefix suggests that it was first registered by Lexus GB, who might have used it as a staff car, or demonstrator, or sold it to a dealership to use as a demonstrator. The car was on offer from lexus edgeware road for £65995 with 14791miles , then again with 19352 miles for £51995, then Lexus stockport offered it with 19659 miles for £43990. After this it was offered again at Lexus Leicester for 46850 with 19821 miles on the clock. November '08, August '09, September '09 and April '10 were the years of the offers. : o )

The radar only works on moving objects, and is very narrow range. The car parks using the parking sensors, your preset target on the camera screen, the wheel, brake and throttle positions, and a little sprinkle of magic. : o )
