  1. Yes should be fine providing it's had its services and healthchecks done With older cars it's hard to expect them to be pristine. Most will have some sort of missing service history. Look at its condition and make up your mind as to whether it's been looked after. I don't have any concerns about it being parked up for a while. Last time I looked, most classic cars are garaged indoors sometimes for years on end. In theory a car with 15k miles garaged indoors is always going to be tighter than a 70k car used everyday and left outside. Rubber deteriorates over time which would explain the MOT failure but mechanically it should be spot on. Get a service done and go for the extended warranty and it should serve your dad well. Find out how many owners it's had which may correspond with the change in mileage.
  2. Car being in D is constantly working against the brakes when stopped though?
  3. States in the ad that the hybrid health check has been done. Hence it's fine.
  4. Should heat up within a few miles especially with a petrol 3.5l lump up front. The engine should be idling whilst on battery if not up to temp. Hybrid batteries degrade over time but not to the same degree as one that is constantly being recharged and used. Remember that this is a bog standard nickel metal hydride battery. Last time I checked, the batteries in my tv remote were dead before the expired 3 year old replacements It's pretty much impossible to deplete the charge in a hybrid battery anyway. Its cycle runs from around 20-80% for longevity and if you do manage to deplete it, you'd be the first to test out the Toyota Frankenstein machine used to charge them up.
  5. Not really to do with how far forward it needs to illuminate but there is certainly a standard for headlight adjustment in that it shouldn't be too high as to dazzle oncoming traffic Also worth remembering that if you're sitting lower down, perceived length of beam would be less than if sitting higher
  6. Apart from when it's manual I guess. I thought switching to N in conventional autos reduced wear on the brakes? Or so I was told anyway
  7. Aerodynamics INNIT! They're supposed to give the car more stability at high speed - not entirely sure whether it would work on the IS but it seems to do the job for the RC and GS-F
  8. Yep its a pain - endured it when I had my RX300 but the auto wipers never worked the same.
  9. In the hybrids, the battery doesn't charge when in Neutral. Hence why not recommended for the hybrid vehicles. Not entirely sure why its bad for conventional automatics though. Yes, that's how its supposed to work, so nothing wrong there. Hence the term "hill start" and not "hill hold". It disengages after about 2 seconds You can move your foot completely off during this time and it wont roll back until it disengages. Its meant to give you enough time to move from brake to accelerator without rolling o steep hills.
  10. Im pretty sure the 3RX turns itself off to maintain enough charge to turn the vehicle on but Ive never had to try. Should be OK for 30-40 mins though. The IS definitely turns off to prevent depletion of the battery though. As others have said - leave it in D or shift to P and then apply the parking brake. Hill start on the 3RX. You have to hold the pedal down all the way to the floor for a few seconds until it beeps.
  11. Wouldn't be too worried to be honest. Petrol engines heat up pretty quickly and the exhaust would be up to temperate in all but the shortest of trips. As for the hybrid system itself - it should be fine - less use in terms of electrics does generally make it a good thing. The battery has probably degraded a bit but nowhere as much as one that has been constantly run day to day has been.
  12. Would be indeed. Stats make for some interesting reading.
  13. Only reason I say that is because the RC-F is rated 3.7s, 50-70mph. The RX450h is 4.1s despite weighing 2 tonnes and having 170hp less. So I would think the LS500h with its additional power and more powerful motors etc would be pretty close if not the same
  14. https://forms.lexus.co.uk/EBrochures/Lexus_LS_e-brochure.pdf Premier gets Safety System A+ but the safety system+ is still standard across the range
  15. The 450h doesn't suffer from air suspension issues. The 4RX doesn't have air suspension probably because it doesn't really need it - the ride on the Premier is very very good with AVS
  16. No you dont - its standard across the range and can get it on the base £73k one. 5.4s is hardly bad for a 2.4 tonne vehicle to 62mph. Besides, Id love to see a rolling start between LS500h and RC-F - my bets are on the LS because that engine/gearbox combo has absolutely rapid in gear acceleration
  17. Clay only removes dirt sitting on the surface, as does washing. SRP gets into the pores of the paint which could explain the dirt coming out. However, it may be paint transfer if the car has has some paintwork done to it i.e. smart repairs etc
  18. You do have to understand that you can't really compare an SUV to a saloon in terms of wind noise simply because of the poorer aerodynamics leading to more wind noise on the SUV. Crosswinds on the motorway will also cause a substantial increase in wind noise which would not normally be present on a normal day Road noise is almost certainly to do with the tyres as others have commented on.
  19. Ive found the Custom mode to be a gimmick - its not as customisable as you would think Seems to feel the same in Sport and Normal in terms of ride comfort - only the throttle response changes. In Sport +, the suspension gets stiffer. Sort of renders the Custom setting a bit useless unless you want a stiffer ride with eco throttle response....
  20. It's a shame these wheels are only on the base version which doesn't have leather and other goodies. I wonder if Lexus would swap them over because I like the base wheels more than the ones on the Plus Pack
  21. Well atleast the whole thing is behind you now. I recall you went for something from the Audi stable, how's that been?
  22. Looking good so far. Few additions perhaps? I believe sonic titanium is now offered as a new colour on the rcf. Also celestial black was removed and changed for Graphite at some point
  23. Pics of the new colour and wheels - what do we think? I think it looks pretty good TBH https://lexusenthusiast.com/images/weblog/18-03-29-gallery-lexus-rc-f-yellow-8.jpg https://lexusenthusiast.com/images/weblog/18-03-29-gallery-lexus-rc-f-yellow-9.jpg
  24. Top suspension mounts or bushes I would have thought.
  25. I dont think the wood can be repaired. The bamboo is open pore wood so I would expect that the scratch is in the wood, rather than a clear coat and therefore would need replacement, rather than repair. Leather is semi-aniline on the GS Premier. You might find it easier (and loads cheaper) to do the cleaning yourself. Get some Dodo Juice leather kit consisting of the leather cleaner and the sealant. Its idiot proof to use and works very well indeed. Should be about £20-25 for the whole kit. You can do all seats within 10-20 minutes. Its usually the door card armrests that take ages to do due to their shape Scratches on leather are harder to deal with but any repair specialist should be able to do that.
