  1. That's dreadful! I'm doing 30mpg atm in the RX450H and Im not even trying. Could it be that the NX is always being strained which in turn is resulting in poor fuel economy?
  2. The pirelli scorpion verde's would result in a harsher ride do to the stiffer 105 rated XL load rating anyway. Make sure the load rating and speed rating match as well. People say speed rating doesnt matter as we never get to those speeds, I say thats a load of horse *******. Here's a detailed explanation as to why it does: Speed ratings are somewhat a sticky subject. I hope to curb some things... Lets start by saying that tires are a global product. The same tire you drive on in small town USA is also used in Stuttgart, Germany or Nagoya, Japan. In North America, we will likely never see the actual rating that tire is speed rated for. In other parts of the world, they do. Of course you will never see 130mph, but why does your vehicle require a tire that is rated for such? As weird as it may seem, and for North America, it really isn't about the speed the tire will see on your vehicle. It is more about the stability of the tire at speed. If the vehicle requires at least a V rated tire, and you install a T rated tire, the tire can feel very lazy when driving at highway speed. The best way to describe it is that once you make a steering input, you need to wait for the tire to catch up as the vehicle makes its move. Making a lane change at 70mph can be quite uncomfortable feeling with a lesser speed rated tire. Maybe I should try to describe this a different way. Think that a V rated tire needs to have a certain level of construction to maintain a 149mph/240kph speed so it doesn't destroy itself at that speed. The construction in a T speed rated tire (118mph/190kph) will be significantly lower because it is not rated to move that fast. If you use a lesser rated tire than the vehicle calls for, this difference will be felt in the vehicle. Also don't forget that the tire is the first part of a vehicles suspension system and the original equipment tire speed rating was taken into account when the vehicle was designed. All of that said, speed rating variances will be different for every vehicle and sometimes some sub-models within the same model. Generally speaking, you can drop 1 speed rating without issue. Here is some more information about speed ratings on our website I hope that helps! -AJ __________________ AJ | The Tire Rack 7101 Vorden Parkway South Bend, IN 46628 aj@tirerack.com Support Club Lexus!!!
  3. +1 Being tail-gated too often pretty much suggests this. Going with the flow of the traffic is the name of the game. :) Some will tailgate even if you're driving at the speed limit. I tend to drive about 33-35 on a 30 road and never seem to get tailgated.
  4. Not too sure if theyre made in the NX fitment but the blokes in the States are using Michelin Latitude Tour HP - apparently very good tyres and over there they are rated as all season. Very good noise levels and wear rate too, might be worth looking at
  5. It'd be rated at that much - probably obtainable if you have some serious dedication. I managed 42.5mpg on a 12 mile trip just to see the maximum I could achieve. Safe to say I wont be trying that again because it sucks the joy out of driving. If it is using a fourth generation hybrid system, it would probably be rated at 50mpg but of course, it wont achieve that figure unless being uber light on the throttle. I manage 30mpg on a daily basis with normal driving so I guess it'd be getting around 35mpg give or take which would be nice.
  6. It turns out it uses a different engine. It seems the IS engine isn't designed to be fitted transversely in the engine bay. The NX is using the same engine as the front wheel drive ES300h in the states. Would the IS300h engine not fit then?
  7. But then it should! The IS300h has nearly 30 more total system HP and probably more torque as well. Why they didnt slot that same setup into the NX300h is beyond me.
  8. The batteries are under the 2nd row of seats so it wouldnt really matter. There's enough space for extra 2 seats shown by the spare wheel under the boot. Rumour has it that the RX450h is using aluminium for the doors, tailgate and the bonnet to save weight so will weigh the same as the current model even though its bigger. Another rumour I came across was a slight power bump. Its expected to be putting out 310-320hp with fuel economy rated at a possible 50mpg. Sounds too good to be true personally but we'll see. Its a combination of soft lexus paint, poor wash technique and the use of a sponge! Swirls galore!
  9. Highly doubt it. My RX has been doing the same MPG since the day I bought it. It'll increase in the summer but maybe by about 2-3mpg. The maximum I have achieved in my RXh is 42mpg and I consistently get about 28+ mpg Seen as though the NX has a smaller engine and is probably lighter than the RX, as well as having thinner tyres, id be expecting atleast 35mpg on a consistent basis. If you really try, you could get it up to about 45mpg but that would take some serious dedication.
  10. Havent changed the factory Dunlop SP Sport 270 on my RX. Ive currently got 26k miles on the clock which equates to 10k miles a year and the fronts are on 4mm while the backs are on 5.2mm. Being primarily FWD, the fronts will wear quicker and dont make the mistake of sticking all season tyres only on two wheels when they wear out!
  11. That sounds like a good idea. I am also not in need of 7 seats so for me I find 7 seat vehicles a bit pointless and on the large side! Id go crazy parking it in the supermarket! The new RX is going to be larger but not by much which is fine by me! The Santa Fe is 8 cm SHORTER than the 450h and almost exactly the same width... True but the seats in the back are absolutely tiny! If you think about the masses who buy the RX in the states, they're children wont fit in rearmost seats looking at the size of them! In which case - all the reviewers will be like "OMG a Lexus which isnt comfortable!! What have the days come to?"
  12. That sounds like a good idea. I am also not in need of 7 seats so for me I find 7 seat vehicles a bit pointless and on the large side! Id go crazy parking it in the supermarket! The new RX is going to be larger but not by much which is fine by me!
  13. They priced it higher because of the performance I think. I think it said 41mpg on the motorway too down to that new 6 speed.
  14. PMSL !! A 12v charger is going to fry a 300v battery? Really? The two circuits will be isolated anyway. Blame the service guy, must be feeding me wrong information! So you can just use any conventional car battery charger? Pretty sure the manual said "use trickle charger or it may damage the hybrid system"
  15. £1100 price difference! That's soooo worth it for the extra power alone! 35.8mpg and 183g/km of CO2 looks good too :D
  16. Im guessing Germany looking at those speed cameras! Probably been out on the nurburgring or something! My source - hes sat in the RX, GS-F and 2017 LS in person at a confidential meeting states that the RX will not have 7 seats but will only be a 5 seater. Other features are a standard 13" display, LED headlights akin to the RC-F and a huge spindle grill along with 20" wheels as standard on higher spec models. No words on pricing but he said the interior is a gem! Those tailpipes are probably on the petrol versions which will be available in the states. Hybrids will probably get a diffuser like the NX300h
  17. Probably the most important point is to use a trickle charger! Otherwise you'll fry the hybrid battery out as well!
  18. Been told the Lexus RX will NOT be a 7 seater. It'll remain a true 5 seater with lots of legroom and a large boot apparently
  19. They wont hack it up as such. They put plastic sliders using a mallet under the locked tyres allowing the others to roll. Using a winch, theyll slide the car onto the bed and then secure it. After its secured they'll raise the bed up to a flat level and off she goes :) Lexus Bradford phoned today and said I can pick my car up. They did the work free of charge under warranty after speaking to customer relations and they've never experienced a locked parking brake on any Lexus vehicle before apparently! Anyways, a good thing always comes out of a bad, I took my wife and finally she has decided on a white/red IS300h F Sport after looking at sonic titanium, ultrasonic blue, F Sport white and Mesa red altogether, albeit on different cars! :). She only uses the car for school runs and in town so 45+ mpg should be possible and it'd make a great addition to the family. Will do some digging on the Lexus website for some nice, nearly new examples as she doesn't drive much so I cant justify paying for a new one. Lexus Bradford told me that there is always slight play in the parking brake system. 0.5-1 inch is (and should) always be there so he should have known. Lexus Bradford say theyve never come across this problem before on any other Lexus vehicle. Maybe they're fibbing or maybe it just doesn't happen this soon!
  20. The upcoming Lexus RX has recently been spied! No word on engines or pricing as of yet but its expected to be shown at the Detroit motor show. Looking at the spy shots, most of the front end is very well camouflaged but it certainly looks similiar to the NX which has just arrived. Wheels seem like they are 18" but been told that wheels up to 20" will be offered to fill that aggressive rear fender. There also seems to be heavy camouflage around the C-pillar hinting at a statement maybe? Rear seems well camouflaged too with the lights looking similiar to the current RC. It seems to have a big spoiler and look at the size of those exhaust tips! No spy shots of the interior yet but if its anything like the NX, then there's no doubt that itll be quality! From the colour of the interior and the grill it appears to be a luxury model. F-Sport spec should sharpen things up!
  21. Never had this issue before and ive owned a Lexus RX300 for 8 years before the current RX450h which ive had for 2.5 years. It only has 25k miles on it too so its not wear and tear. 7 months ago, the brake pad wear was only 10% on all 4 brakes so they cant claim its wear and tear! Ill let you know what happens tomorrow!
  22. All sorted now. Brakes were locked apparently probably due to being wet before parking in the garage. I will be picking up the car tomorrow afternoon but Lexus Bradford had the cheek to ask for £129 + vat for the work. I refused to pay explaining that it's a technical fault, a warranty issue and shouldn't really be happening anyway. It's not a wear and tear brake problem now is it? They said they'd let me know tomorrow and I explained I'd be putting a complaint into Lexus UK if I was asked to pay for something which shouldn't have happened especially as the car is garaged anyway! First time its happened on any car I've owned!
  23. better pictures. The wheels look super aggressive:
  24. Checked that thread. Anyway the car has just gone. It fit on the small truck and is going to Lexus Bradford as I'm posting this. They'll probably give me a call when they get the car
  25. Would a problem with the motor show up on the dash? Because there are no warnings on the dash whatsoever Yes almost certainly. I very much doubt it is a problem with the motor. Have you tried to pull away using snow mode - I think that would make the rear motor engage and would apply more force on the rear brakes if it is just a stuck brake. Update - tow truck arrived. It was huge - like a long lorry. Needless to say, it didnt fit up my drive so they have called a smaller one which will arrive in approximately 15 minutes. I managed to give the car some welly and half of it came out of the garage shredding up the paint on the concrete floor on the rears. Fronts are moving fine. The plan is to put a piece of plastic on both rears and winch it onto the smaller truck with the front rolling freely until all 4 wheels are on the truck. Then to Lexus bradford it will go! Hopefully the smaller truck fits in my drive! will keep you updated.
