Lexus Rx450H Test Drive
rayaans replied to F.A.'s topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Congrats. Be sure to post pics up when delivered. Probably looks exactly like mine! :P The leather is very soft so it marks easily - I have a scuff on the rear door due to my heavy work bag. On delivery make sure all wheels are the same colour - they're pretty much impossible to get right if kerbed -

What tyre pressures are you guys running? I'm on 36psi all around. It definitely makes a difference! Oh and the tyres too! What tyres are on your car's? Bridgestones are notorious for poor fuel economy It's also worth noting that hybrids do very well when momentum is kept Eg slight acceleration downhill and then let the speed pull you up the hill etc -

In the UK they can both run on normal unleaded. However, in the US, where their fuel quality is lower, it needs premium for the 200t which is basically equivalent of normal unleaded for us. Ive heard good things about Shell Vpower, I might try it out to see if it makes a difference on the RX -

Ok so last week I filled up with regular BP unleaded. I managed 30mpg from that. This week, filled up with BP ultimate unleaded and managed 34mpg and temp over here has been the same. I also used Sport Mode on the motorway which was about 150 miles. The RX seems to love higher octane fuel, maybe the NX is the same? Worth a try I guess -
Sewells no longer supplies to anyone. They've shut their online store.

No worries, how are you getting on? -
Well yeah, what I meant was, wait till the new one comes out, value of the older models will drop and there'll be some pretty good deals around £10k + discounts etc
-
No point getting one now - new one coming out approx end of this year. Cant say you'd miss the "speed" of the IS though - RX shifts!

Front Brake Caliper Corrosion
rayaans replied to Steve44's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
The regenerative brakes are a bit hit and miss really but if you floor the brake pedal, itll stop pretty well. Im still not sure about the ABS coming on. Ive never had the ABS come on in the RX even when the brake pedal was pushed 2/3 of the way down. And the slip indicator only shows up in the wet - arguably because my front tyres are at 3mm now. -

you can certainly turn off the alarm sensor. There's a button in the overhead console. Never used it personally though. I think you would have to do it each time though. What you could do is get out of the car, keep drivers door open and hit the lock switch, then shut the door. Then the alarm won't go off this way -

Yes its normal. Press the brake all the way down to the floor for a few seconds - it engages hill start assist which will stop roll back -
So Is The Nx300H Actually Any Good?
rayaans replied to ganzoom's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
It depends on how eager you are to get one. Ive always managed to get a decent discount in the first year no matter what. I ordered mine a month after it launched in the UK (it took 3 weeks to get to a price I was happy to pay) and managed a 10% discount altogether which I was quite pleased with. It depends on how hard you're willing to push the salesman. Give them a do-able figure and they'll take a few weeks but they'll get it done. In fact my dealer mentioned £3k off a new NX. May be to do with being a customer for exactly 10 years this year though! -
Exterior/interior Cleaning
rayaans replied to dochybrid's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Exterior: Alloys - Valetpro bilberry - its the safest alloy wheel cleaner out there. I have a slightly kerbed rim and been using it for 2 years at a dilution of 1:5 and it works great. At 1:5 you need to agitate with a soft wheel brush but that only takes a few minutes. If you want something just to spray on and leave then you need to use it straight out of the bottle. Personally been using carchem shampoo. BUT you can use any car shampoo depending on your preference. Contrary to popular belief, suds dont mean anything, its the lubricity that you want. Triplewax will do very nicely as its a good all rounder. Polish - There's a huge range to choose from but I have Autoglym SRP for the quick spruce ups and light protection for a few weeks. I also have Meguiars 205 which is great for Lexus soft paint and can be used by hand. I use it by machine with a white polishing pad and then with a black finishing pad to boost the gloss levels. The White pad is generally used on my wife's Merc as it has harder paint but the Lexus gets away with a black pad most of the time as its looked after well. I also have Autosmart Cherry Glaze which is a PDI polish - very good for 15 minute bling bling but needs to be topped with something for protection. Protection - No point spending huge amounts of money on expensive boutique waxes here. In a blind test, they all look the same anyway. My favourite wax is Meguiars #16. Costs about £15, lasts a good 3 months + and beads like crazy. Trick is to put super thin layers on (super thin as in you shouldnt be able to see it) and it comes off with ease that way. For a sealant, I use Soft99 Fusso - it lasts a good 6 months and again, pretty cheap at £20 + its Japanese :P Plastics - Valetpro protectant neat on plastics - leaves a waterproof finish for a month or so. Im planning to switch to Autosmart Trim wizard which lasts longer and the sample I tried was very good. Theyre both roughly the same price anyway for 1L off ebay which will last ages. Windows - I just use rainx. Works fine for me, got 3 bottles from Wilko for £2.50 lol. Some people have issues with it if they dont apply properly. Best bet is to switch to Angelwax H2GO - its in a tiny bottle for £5 but it should last a while. Interior: All screens - No need to use anything special - damp cloth will do the trick. Its the safest method as some cleaners can mark the screens etc Dashboards - Again, damp cloth to wipe - I use valetpro protectant at 1:2 to protect the dashboard. Leather - Range of leather cleaners available. I use Autosmart Leather cleaner. I protect the leather with Autosmart Leather supplement. Carpets - Good vaccuum, then Autosmart Brisk, agitation with a stiff brush and then suck it all up with a wet/dry vacuum. -
Is300H 0-60, 50-70Mph Performance On Video.
rayaans replied to ganzoom's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
IS200t is coming out later this year if Im not mistaken - 235hp and enough torque to match the IS350 - expect 0-60 in 6.5s. Its going to make the IS350 obsolete if not careful! -

Only tried it once to see what it actually did. Got bored pretty quick so the gearbox is just left to its own devices now, its much better that way. How's things with the potential purchase? Just waiting for a weekend to go and have a look at the two up north. I know that they will probably sell by the time we get a chance but if it is meant to be and all that! Any issues with torque steer with all the power going to the front wheels? I knows that it is technically AWD but the engine still sends 246 (odd)bhp to the front wheels so just wondering if there are any issues with traction? Sorry for all of the questions. If you gun it you'll feel some torque steer. It pulls to the left. In Sport mode its reduced but its not that bad, you only feel it when the power band is maxed out but its not really an issue for me, hardly ever gets there as the car is so quick anyway. Only needs the wellies if you're overtaking or being a goon on the motorway but its hardly bad at all. -

Should I Buy A New Lexus
rayaans replied to Dustcap's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Looks ace! The sat nav volume is customizable somewhere in the settings so you can knock that gripe off your list :P With regards to the USB, I experienced the same with the CT when I had a loaner last year. Hopefully the dealers can sort it out! -
Terrible Review

Fuel efficiency will also improve as your tyres begin to wear down :) as much as 12% apparently. -

I think the GS has that particular feature - its got Lexus' best CVT to date IMO. With the RX it has no paddles and no rev counter so its fine :) -
Thats true although it does last for ages though apparently. Penny dropped - Autosmart Mirror Image would be perfect by hand with a coat of wax on top!

A thought........do you get "flappy paddles" on the RX450? No you dont, hence the uselessness of a rev counter :) -
Id say get some Autosmart Topaz in a 5l container. Relatively cheap and does what it says. Leaves about 3 months worth of protection behind too

They'll take the roof bars off for you if you want. They just clip off and they'll put the black filler caps in. They'll be looking for a quick sale on the Bolton one as they've had that demonstrator for 2 years so wouldnt mind taking the roof rails off at all. You dont get a rev counter on the RX no matter what mode it is in. They're useless on a hybrid anyway so not a big deal. The puddle light turns on when you walk up to the car. When you open the door, the DRL's will come on. They dont stay on after you turn the car off though, it may be configurable by the dealer however so youll have to ask them.
