"it Depends On What The Definition Of 'is' Is"
rayaans replied to Bratman91's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
But that ones a 70D with "only" 275 miles range which is realistically only 200 miles. Start putting options on it and its £65k anyway. I also don't like how it looks and the new RX interior runs rings around Tesla's! I call BS on no servicing - It still has brakes does it not, BTW these stick like crazy in cold weather? Give me a Tesla with 400 miles use-able range at £57k and a good quality interior (without using MB parts) and i'll take it tomorrow! And a showroom in Leeds would be good too. Tesla have done well in the US, can't see why they can't open 100 stores in the UK in a year tbh, or put more chargers up north -
Back Seat Rattle
rayaans replied to DanD's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Ive managed to get one there too although its not in the seat itself. My rattle seems to be coming from the rear right wheel arch and needless to say, when people sit on the right seat, it DOESNT go away! Try a quick test - I doubt itd be the armrest but I think its the catch for the seats. Try pulling the seats forward slightly and putting them into the middle catch, not the most rearward or the most forward catches. I bet that'll sort it. -

This is what my car does - Home to school to work to home visits 5 days. The Tesla would be ideal in this sort of driving as it would get charged But then, the problem begins on long trips. I have family all around the country so obviously family weddings and occasions means a lot of driving. For example, recently I went to Birmingham and Gloucester for a family wedding. Gloucester is exactly 170 miles from my house and I went there and back on 1 tank of fuel in my RX450h in Sport mode with 60 miles to spare. If I had a Tesla, it'd most likely be the 85kwh battery with maximum range so 300 miles. Id therefore run out of juice on the motorway or need to charge the car somewhere at a service station as the wedding venue barely had enough car parking spaces so I parked on the pavement. When I go to Bristol or London, I prefer to drive non-stop as I can maintain concentration for that amount of time. If I take a break it actually hinders my ability to concentrate as you almost have to "start over". Also, how do I charge my car if Im staying in a hotel? Also, the majority of my London friends (trained and worked there for couple of years) dont have any form of garage and most park on the street. How would I charge the car at night? BUT - the main problem would have been in Birmingham - Road works at night and the diversion was very unclear, it brought me back to the same roundabout twice! Now If I only had the 150 of the 300 miles left I would definitely have stressed myself out that night. Then you have the car itself - OK its sort of high tech but the new BMW 7 series blows it out of the water for fit and finish and gizmos. It doesn't look very good either and then you have the issue of batteries becoming inefficient after a while. My phone doesn't hold as much as it did a year ago, I doubt the Tesla would. How do I even get the car serviced? Closest service centre is in Birmingham and no ones going to buy a Tesla used with Kwik Fit service history after 3 years. I get the whole "over the air" service thing but there is still brake fluid and other things to change. Yes, an EV has lots of power (in the case of tesla anyway) but you don't get the thrills of a V6, V8 or V10 when you have an EV unless someone comes up with one that makes a good sound, sort of like that R8 E-tron noise. £74k after the £5k grant is a lot of money. Im planning on getting the new RX450h F-Sport and that costs £57k with the options I want on it. I drive 10k miles a year, and spend £1700 a year on petrol in my RX. Id actually LOSE more money when buying a Tesla, simply because of the stonking depreciation it'll take due to the price tag on it and even if we don't take that depreciation into account, it'd take circa 10 years to recuperate the extra £17k! As for Tesla reducing cost of batteries, maybe they will but I doubt they'll reduce the price of the car....... -
Will Vag Car Owners Pay Higher Taxes?
rayaans replied to noby76's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Diesel's going to take a huge knock - id be surprised if people still buy them now! Id imagine some "Green" folk will be protesting about it outside Downing Street. Would be great to see VW done over tbh, its just outright deceit. -

And how long does it take using 3 pin? Tesla charges at a stonking 4mph!! -

Thats probably the best idea but obviously very very expensive. The infrastructure for electric up north is genuinely crap. I can understand that you can probably have an EV down south and in large cities but then Leeds is a large city and only has 2 chargers in it! :O -

What happens if the charger is offline? Ive heard of that a lot recently. Toyota is obsessed with Hydrogen due to range - 300 miles from one of the first hydrogen vehicles is fairly promising. Itll be 400, 500 maybe 1000 by the time EV gets anywhere near that. -
Nx 300 Rusty Bolts

Same here 8 years of RX300 and 3 years of RX450h. The only rust spots I can see are on the paint itself but easily removed with Iron X or equivalent. -

Probably the first on the forum in Orange - thought it was called Solar Flare after some idiot named it on FB?! Im assuming its the one from Birmingham? -

The difference is that I can just go into a Petrol station and fill up in 2 minutes and be off without even going inside some of them due to automated credit card ones now. There are only 2 electric chargers near Leeds, both 7 miles away. Im not going to go 7 miles away to charge a car. Id imagine there will never be a day of "enough" chargers. They'll always be in use, especially if electric cars keep increasing. -

The problem is that when you have unexpected trips, which is quite often for me, its very difficult. Imagine having 50 miles left and then you realise you have 100 miles to go! I doubt Toyota, being the biggest carmaker in the world will have just chosen hydrogen out of thin air -
That's not strictly true. The additives in the super unleaded fuels are much better for hybrid cars, especially ones with direct injection. The additives clean the carbon deposits completely if used for around 5-7k miles which builds up on short trips

Surely insurance companies have to give you a main dealer "market value" than a trade value though? -

All I can say is the American EPA rating for my Leaf is 75 miles, and I get 80-85 miles in normal use.For a 85kWh Tesla, the EPA rating is 270 miles. Except Tesla recommend 80% charge and the car logs how much charge you've been going to and they won't honour the warranty if you have only 200 miles range on 100% after 3 years. At 80% you could get 240 but you wouldn't because the instant torque is too addictive. With conventional cars they won't drop under a certain mpg, for example if I welly the RX around I'll be getting 25 mpg and it won't get lower so I can still do 350 miles on a tank and fill up in 2 mins. If I welly the Tesla, like I did, I get 150-200 miles on 80% -

The price they were quoted include the battery rental, excluding the battery the car is only £75/months!! You need to check your facts!!The American EPA range rating for EVs are really accurate. My Leaf is has an EPA rating of 75 miles which is actually an underestimate - I get 80-85 miles. A 70kWh Model S has a EPA rating of 240 miles, a 85kWh 85D 270 miles. If you really hyper mile one, it'll do 500 miles+ on a charge. http://gas2.org/2015/09/17/550-miles-single-charge-tesla-model-s-85d/ The 85kwh one has nowhere near 300 mile range. Tesla firstly recommends 80% charging so thats 240 miles. If you drive it normally it gets about 200! -

Firstly, the Lexus RX is no Zafira - its one of the most refined SUV's on the market today and pampers you unlike Zafira's and the Prius. That's essentially what you pay for. Of course, if you just want to get from A to B as cheaply as possible, its best to get something cheap in the first place but if you want to get from A to B in style, the RX fits the bill. If you've driven a Prius, you'll know how crap that car actually is..... lol With GAP protection, they HAVE to pay unless you've deliberately given them wrong information. It doesn't matter whether its your fault or someone else, they have to pay regardless. No point getting the ding and scratches insurance though, the people who come out to do it can't seem to get it right, especially on Lexus 3 stage paint. -

Good points mentioned in the article especially the range anxiety - even Tesla overestimate their figures! Can't do more than 200 miles in one. -
Oh god you didn't buy a Genesis did you? id be rejecting it and buying another car - one reason - depreciation is going to absolutely kill you!

TBF the Lexus carpet mats are very good. Ive had them in all year round for 3 years, no issues at all. But if you really do want some quality rubber mats: http://www.carmats2u.co.uk/lexus-gs300h-2014-onwards-3046-p.asp http://www.npautoparts.co.uk/car-accessories-c1/tailored-car-mats-c132/lexus-gs-300h-2014-2015-floor-mats-p90352 both 5mm heavy duty rubber so pretty good.

I can't see why you would advise not using parking brake in N which means you are suggesting using footbrake rather than parking brake? I can't understand why you would advocate this policy. Parking brake is linked to the Parking Prawl. The parking prawl is usually quite weak and not designed for on and off situations - its designed to hold the car for a long period of time, not on and off, on and off at traffic lights. The trick to keeping your parking brake free from rust etc etc is to use it more often, but not excessively so. if you were in gridlock traffic, then you would probably shift to P and then put the parking brake on but not at red lights.

Im not too sure what RON BP Ultimate is - I think its 95 but it still has the additives in it. May try Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V Power to see if it cleans it up a bit. Never had this on my 8 year old RX300 so don't know why its happening on the 450h. Maybe its because the engine doesn't get used as much. -

Wow really? I've been using BP regular which I would have thought is more than adequate. I'll give the additive and BP ultimate a try to see what happens -

Or eventually, instead of giving a grant they could add a £5k "tax" on electric cars only lol
