  1. No sensors for the tailgate. Its technically a door and hence, if you tried opening a door into a garage wall for example, Im sure it wouldnt stop you. As for the ride, number of factors - tyre pressure, suspension or crap british roads. Its got a higher centre of gravity needing firmer suspension than something like the NX. Parallel parking assist - dunno - don't need this - actually I can just sense where the side and rear is using just the camera. All rear number plates should have some tape around the screws - maybe the dealer forgot to add these? Lexus Chester stick their plates on for this very reason and don't use screws.
  2. The Automated GS is pretty good - there are NO leaders in this field since fully automated vehicles are illegal at the moment. The motorway only strategy seems a good bet - it even changes lanes by itself without needing any input from the driver. Im sure it'll work fine on our motorways. Who needs an automated car in town anyway?! If you want one of them you've either got to be unable to drive or unworthy of driving in the first place.

  4. TFR is a crap remover (not a crap crap remover as it does a good job at what its supposed to do) - very strong stuff actually, the cheap ones being rather caustic. These things were originally intended for bus and truck washes as its quick and buses and trucks don't really need to be shiny. You have to remember that this stuff strips waxes down leaving your car bare of anything on it which is problematic if you get some bird poo or whatever else on. You've just bought a white car, you'll start seeing black spots (tar) and iron contamination (the brown rust spots) after a while and it needs regular maintenance to stay looking good. TFR's will remove some of the tar but they make the rust spots worse. Onto coatings then, I agree, the car WILL need washing at some point. BUT - these coatings greatly reduce the amount of dirt the car accumulates by shedding some off when it rains, not to mention that they resist light scratching as they're usually made out of silicon dioxide.
  5. The perfect solution for you would be a coating on the car. Something like Cquartz UK or the Kamikaze coatings are great as they last for 1-2 years. But - this coating ideally needs to stay away from TFR. TFR is a quick fix, crap remover. Lots of cars have issues, especially on plastic trim with the TFRs. Car washes tend to stick back to black products to hide the stains it leaves on plastic. Then, once the coating is on, you can wash whenever you feel like and thats it - no waxing or anything else involved.
  6. The only things I can see in addition to the IS on F-Sport is AVS, Lane keep assist, triple LED headlights, memory seats and a reversing camera (without guidelines). The navigation is still an option - probably £2k! So essentially - an IS with metallic paint, AVS, memory seats and premium nav will be £37850 An RC will be £37495 + £2k (premium nav) + £610 paint = £40,105 so it doesnt work out that much more. But then, the RC is less practical (try fitting a teenager in the back) and weighs a lot more which is obviously going to affect fuel economy and performance. The RC will essentially have the same performance as the GS as the weight is similiar. Id bet a badget the IS handles better too which is why its so frustrating that they didn't bring an IS-F and instead, made do with an RC-F
  7. Pretty pointless tbh. I can't see how its innovative at all. May as well make another one from wood while theyre at it...... id assume they got a company to make it anyway - they won't have done it "themselves"
  8. That pricing looks very high. In the US there's only a $3k difference between the IS and RC. What's made them put the price on the RC £5k more than the current IS? So really, you're paying £5k more for a slower, less practical car with an almost identical interior to the IS. That's really odd. Id expect £3k not more.

  10. Ive just tried admiral multiquote to see - RX450h F-Sport £432 10k annum and business use IS300h F-Sport £224 for 304 days! 5k per annum - works out about £270 for a year!
  11. Like what exactly? Michelin is a premium brand so you'll pay more compared to something like Nexen for example regardless of whether the tyre is better or not. However, we're driving Lexus here so sticking a Nexen on is a sign of cheap-skating (and that's coming from a Yorkshireman!!). This is something I look for, especially on used cars as its likely a sign of "paahh - it'll do", which has consequences elsewhere e.g. scratches on paint, service intervals etc etc. I prefer to get a tyre rated C for economy. The reason is - that the higher the rating, the less grip the tyres have as they're running on harder compounds with low rolling resistance, I chose C as its a middle ground, good economy but good grip also. In terms of noise ratings, IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! I was on original Dunlops rated at 71db from new. The Dunlops did roar a bit and got louder as they wore. The Michelin's are eerily quiet. In terms of wet grip, the previous Dunlops were rated an F or something and would spin out in the wet so still better to go for Michelins! :( Also, when you consider that they only cost £123 each for the 19" tyres and £50 for all 4 fitted by Lexus, its a no brainer. I was also aware that there werent many reviews on 235/55 r19 tyres and that's why I went for the Michelin's. They're a favourite in the US, they RAVE about them and Id rather listen to current owners (some of which who went from OEM dunlop to Pirelli Sc Verde and then to Michelin in the quest to find the best all round tyre) than pick a tyre out of the sky.
  12. I'll second this as a great little feature. Really useful, and just another item to add to the list of 'does your car do this?' when comparing specs and prices. I also think the headlights are a step up on the ones in the IS.The 2nd gen IS was oft criticised for insipid headlights and I was a but disappointed the 3rd gen wasn't as big an improvement as it could have been IMO. That's because the NX F Sport has LEDs while the IS makes do with xenons. It's always a bit odd when I drive the IS at night. My RX has 2 adaptive LEDs on each side so itd really obvious when it swivels so I somewhat wait for the IS ones to swivel but they don't! They're also a cream shade compared to the bright white LEDs.   15. You are right, lot's of nooks and crannies. The thin strip of paintwork benieth the grill also collects water. I try to wipe it dry but more drops of water are back in no time at all. Also, I can only just reach the centre of the roof. The bottom of the doors (inside) do get very dirty. I've never had that happen before. is it a design fault? Yep, mentioned on US forums. It gets quite dirty and needs frequent cleaning

  17. Yeah it's my wife's car but she doesn't like the look of current EVs. And when you consider it only cost me £24k it's much cheaper than a Tesla to buy!!

  21. It does work, I saw it on youtube somewhere. However, it doesn't STOP a crash, it just reduces it, some of the cars being tested hit the one in front albeit at a very slow speed. There was a 2016 RX one on youtube too and that genuinely stops!

  23. Yes, you're supposed to feel the potholes. I have the F-Sport version so even mine's stiffer than the regular RX which I prefer as it doesn't fall over on roundabouts and corners like the regular RX. Frankly, the Telegraph doesn't know what its talking about, it keeps saying the RX is a rough ride, yet doesn't say anything on "German" car's ride's which we all know are stiffer than the RX is.
  24. Although with the new Lexus direct-injection engines, you're better off using the Super Unleaded for the additives. They claim their port injection helps to clean the deposits but who knows?
  25. Yes I think it does have a sub on the parcel shelf. All Premium Nav cars come with 8 speakers and reversing camera
