Yes but surely that's defeating the point? The work will be the same and cost wise its more expensive for a minor at Merc. 20k miles before a service is somewhat ridiculous too, especially on a Diesel - my wife's Merc had to go in, on the money as well otherwise you could feel it wasn't performing its best - it started running rough near service time. The engine hasnt changed much since then either, its still the same old basic 2.1l diesel they're using

I just checked. It coats £370 like for like to service a Mercedes C300 hybrid. That's the fixed price service with a loaner

My Is After Being Detailed

I don't mind mobile detailers but they don't typically do ceramic coatings which take a while to cure. They don't have any trouble putting C quartz on though as it doesn't require too long -

You want a ceramic coating. Gtechniq, C quartz, kamikaze. That sort of stuff. Are you anywhere near topaz detailing or ultimate finish? They're the guys you want near London anyway -
Just keep saying hmm that's too expensive. Eventually they'll drop the price considerabley

That's not strictly true. EU law specifically states that it's for the new car warranty only. Therefore on older cars it doesn't apply. Also, OEM parts need to be used including Toyota motor oil 0W-20 and brakes for the warranty to apply. It also has to be documented as the manufacturer can easily refuse warranty work on the basis of inferior servicing which may or may not be the case but you have to be able to prove it. OE equivalent is not good enough, it HAS to be OEM parts. The reason for this is because the dealers go directly to Lexus UK for approval of any warranty work and they need previous service history (along with all documentation such as grade of oil, brand etc).

Interesting Discoveries (good & Bad)
rayaans replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Yes, that's exactly how mine works. It just needs a gentle push upwards and it goes up fairly smooth -
I think it may be related to the 300h only as its electric? Not pneumatic????? Yes, does it on every car with electric power steering

My tolerance is quite low - very sensitive ears here due to years using a stethoscope! No rattle whatsoever in the IS. I feel like there is but its always my coin holder or something in the door handle or in the glovebox. Come to think of it, I havent heard any rattles in any IS loaners ive had either and I don't listen to music much in those as I cba transferring CD's over. Even the CT's didn't have rattles. TBH I hadnt cleaned out my RX in over a year and I thought I heard 10 different rattles coming from multiple places. Turned out to be all the junk I had in the car which left only 2 in the end with 33k miles. 1 stick around all year but the other one goes away in summer. The wife's IS is also a 63 plate with 12k miles. Actually I cant remember any rattles on my RX300 or any on the GS loaners or the RC-F either. And that was driven liken bonkers let me tell you!

Surely your mate is... pardon the use of language.... an idiot? Since when did cars with P, R, N and D have clutches? I can't see how the foot-brake is bad either - BMW still use a handbrake lever and no one complains about how crap those are. Meet and Greet is generally crap anyway - your car is being used and abused so no surprises there. I think the cockpit is designed to not be altered unless you're in a severe crash at maybe 90+ mph with a standing vehicle. The front end would take most of the damage and ensure the interior isnt compromised. Im still confused about these bootlid comments - sometimes I feel like I have a different car?! I have to be quite aggressive to make it bounce near the rear window. Its as well damped as any saloon car Ive had including Merc -
Thank you for that Michael. The Lexus website also lists a minor service for an IS over five years old at £159, I was charged £245 ! There were no extraordinary items on my invoice, just oil, filter, screenwash etc. I have emailed them asking for a refund of £91.85......I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again. I think the £159 is Lexus essential servicing - the only thing they dont give you is a Lexus stamp. They give you a certificate however to prove its been serviced. I assume the £245 is the full lexus service which includes bits like greasing door hinges which arent really essential. The Cardiff prices are at the top end of the Lexus capped price. Id be haggling those prices down as they're just charging extra compared to other dealers who usually do it cheaper if you have a good relationship with the aftersales manager.

10 mile round trip on sunday - 37mpg - achieved without any sort of hybrid driving technique. My wife was driving. TBH I have noticed that she had a heavy foot on take off from traffic lights which is probably whats killing the MPG

Touch wood - NOTHING here. Im actually very impressed with the quality of the IS interior. Not a SINGLE rattle with 12k miles and 2 years old. My RX has 2 annoying rattles at 3 years and 33k miles, one from the passenger B pillar and one from rear drivers side wheel arch area. My wife drives it normally but I drive the IS quite hard and its solid - with a capital S. Your car sounds really bad - never had that many rattles in a Lexus before. Maybe 1 or 2 max but not more than that. No issues with any armrests which get used regularly by kids and with termperature or anything! On the contrary - had to go to London for a conference and me and my colleague took turns to drive, him one way and me the other in his new C300 Hybrid. It had quite a few rattles TBH, not something I mentioned mind but hey ho

£54.85 is steep! TBF Ive been a customer for 11 years now and it DOES show up on their computer screen. My dealer is Lexus Bradford, they were crap when they were WMG group but after switching to RRG group, they're really competitive on servicing and other jobs.

Interesting, I bet Toyota has already developed a superior hydrogen powertrain to the one offered then. Im sure Honda has come up with the Clarity or something which is hydrogen. As for the Mirai, its an odd thing in terms of looks but then the new LF-FC Lexus looks pretty good. I mean compared to the monstrocity of the Audi SUV range, especially the Q7 which looks worse in person than in the pictures, the Lexus SUV's look absolutely perfect in person as the angles all have a meaning and join together which can't be seen on pictures very well.

I guess it depends how much you like getting your car scratched and messed up. i mean the last independent I used charged £150 for a service but it took me 3 hours to get the oil out of the carpet and £80 for a wheel refurbishment on my last RX. Its worth remembering £450 is the capped price. Dealers cant charge more than this but they consistently charge much less if you haggle hard. How many independents do you know that charge £27 for an MOT and £50 for all 4 tyres changing?!

Seems like 1989 all over again! The new Lexus LS concept has just been revealed today - of course, it has a distinct appearance and a whole new level of tech! The concept is a fuel cell vehicle with gesture control, all wheel drive, automated driving with pedestrian and vehicle detection on the motorway as well as a form a facial recognition to activate the car. Its even got a hologram where the gestures can be recognised and car-to-car communication and of course, it can park itself.

I think you mean "soft" paint, not thin paint. Lexus consistently comes higher than the German brands on paint depth readings. Probably to try and offset the soft paint. I'd bet the rust was some kind of heavy fallout from train tracks or something. Hmm £95 + VAT is steep. Lexus Stockport use the same bodyshop and i was quoted £80 + VAT on first instance - pay £100 all inclusive at most.

Yes, I do like the look of the new website - Mercs looks horrid in comparison! The car configurator needs sorting out properly. It needs something like BMW's car configurator which gives you 360 degree and panning options. The used car section needs an overhaul. Its been the same since 2005 or something. The models are really anoying and there isnt a real filtering system e.g. cars with ML or AVS etc

Nx 300H Test Drive By An Is Owner
rayaans replied to Konrad's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
That probably explains why the MPG is not great for most as the engine cutting in quicker will reduce the time spent in EV But - from a drivers point of view, I guess they didn't kick it in soon enough as its too damn slow at any speed above 50mph or on hills. Makes it worse when it roars its head off too @Rayaans, maybe you've cracked their target market :) - those that tend to drive within surburia/town environments that are fairly flat in the main. Certainly not the Yorkshire Dales! I certainly fit the profile, with a few motorway journey's thrown in, which it copes with perfectly well. It's also big enough for the discerning Yummy Mummy whereas the RX is arguably a tad on the large size. Yes, but then maybe they should have made an NX450H with a de-tuned engine pushing out between 240-270hp. Then. that would be good for performance and economy! Dimensions wise, the NX is marginally smaller than the RX. The RX just drives BIG! Besides, the mummies are driving around Q7's and RR's now which are about the same size as the new RX -
Its been a long time coming! But the new look website is here! Looks pretty smart if you ask me but it still needs a better car configurator

I am happy enough witht the satnav, it gets me to my destination with no obvious problems & seems accurate in warning of traffic jams. I have the upgrade (not ML) ice and it has good sound quality. No vibrations on my car at any speed and the mouse is better now I put the feedback level up to high. I suppose it depends on what car you had before. A colleague has just bought a E-Class coupe about the same age as my f-sport. It doesnt have satnav and is quite noisy being a diesel! Ed Yep, sat nav is fine - its never had a problem finding any destination albeit it sometimes takes awkward routes. No vibrations on the car either - sounds like a problem! Standard 8 speaker setup with premium nav is great and ML is a touch better but not much on the IS. You have to play with the sound settings and its source dependent - it plays USB very well. I also find the mouse fairly easy to use. BTW if you want to mute music when the sat nav lady talks - hold the MODE button -
