Tyre Recommendations
rayaans replied to teejaybee's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
The compound on a V tyre is different to a H tyre. V tyres are able to dissipate heat more readily which ensures greater stability at speed. For example, if you drive a car with H tyres at 80mph and the same car with V tyres you'll notice a slight difference in steering and change of direction -

Not what the Lexus sales staff are willing to put their signature to. The new models seem to be affected just the same as older versions. My R Line Touareg isn't standard (the standard kit of the R Line is a higher spec than other marques as it is) but listing extras is hardly a chore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The sales staff are talking out of their backsides - I know Lexus better than they do, in fact some of them didn't even know the new RX was coming and whether HUD was available on the F-Sport models. and it doesnt affect the newer models as much as it did. The older 400h had issues as it had a smaller battery. The new cars have standard battery sizes and its not a problem unless something is loose such as the terminals It would certainly be a pain phoning up everytime I had to get insurance on an Audi or something to say a massive list of everything on the car especially when you have 2 cars. Would be a PITA if I needed to claim and missed something out by accident too! Ive gone off VW's now - I dont find them as luxurious as they used to be, more rugged than luxury IMO - especially after coming to Lexus and being pampered by the gliding seats and steering wheel when turning the car on, slow closing windows and the HUGE kit list. Lol. You know Lexus better than the sales staff. Very amusing. Every car has a build code. The insurers can easily check that against the registration or chassis number to get a full specification list. Hardly a chore or a chance of missing something off in a claim. My Touareg R Line has every luxury of a Lexus RX450H. Whilst they are both designated as SUVs, they are totally different cars. A RX is rarely, if ever, likely to seriously venture off road, whereas a Touareg is and can cope with it even on standard tyres. The Touareg also has a bigger load area with the seats up or down. Does it make the RX a bad car? No it doesn't. But it makes it more of a Chelsea school run car than a proper 4x4. You hate VW and love Lexus. Whoopy do for you. But all this schadenfreude rhetoric is ill placed. The UK government are not going to take any retrospective steps against VW owners. I will therefore continue to blow my smelly, polluting diesel emissions wherever I go luxuriating in the fuel economy of a big V6 Tdi. Especially in Scotland. Enjoy your RX. I certainly intend continuing to enjoy my VW Touareg. Im not even joking - I do know Lexus better than the sales staff - half of them dont even know the NX300h engine is from the US ES300h and that the "Mesa red" they speak of on the GS is not "mesa red" at all, infact being crimson red which has a different shade and colour code. It is only being changed to Mesa red for the 2016 GS facelift Their job is to sell cars - not to know anything past the basics - frankly they dont even know that the IS300h F-Sport uses aftermarket sourced tokico shocks! If you go to any Lexus dealer I bet a badger they won't even know who makes the electronic components of the Lexus range - mostly Denso. -

I still dont believe the computer...... 46mpg is way too high and never have I driven an IS250/GS250 which has got anywhere near that!
-
If you're doing low mileage then the 200t does make more sense, I think its only £1k cheaper though but we don't know how well it'll depreciate yet which may offset things. Being nosey, what kind of discount did you get on the IS200T? I think they're giving out £2-4k discounts on the 300h which may have offset the initial £1k cost on the 300h. After driving the IS200T, it takes off slower than the hybrid due to the way the gearing is set up, somewhat like its starting in 2nd gear all the time but torque is very useable in day to day situations. Having said that, the refinement is ever so slightly less and the performance difference is not as big as I expected it to be. I went in thinking itd be NX300h vs NX200t all over again but its closer than I thought this time!
-
Its very odd, something isnt right. The MAX ive achieved in an IS250 is 34mpg but 46.8mpg is way too high. Id say its not registering correctly as a V6 will guzzle through fuel no matter what. I barely get 46mpg in the IS300h!
-
I meant the original post buddy. 46.8 mpg is theoretically and practically impossible for an IS250 no matter how you drive it. The only real plausible theory is that the MPG was reset while going down a hill. If I do that in my RX I can achieve 99mpg btw ;)
-
Was just wondering if any of you had seen this - looking at the speedo its about 80mph. That impact though........ And the car - what was left of it anyway.....
-
I've driven it. To put your mind at rest it drives very well The 4 cylinder is very smooth and the torque is great. Fuel economy isn't great tbh, I couldn't get over 28 mpg but hey ho

Clear coat peeling is only fixed by respray. No 2 ways about itThe good thing with soft paint is its easy to polish. No need for aggressive compounds

Rattle Over Bumps
rayaans replied to AlanDL's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Its not like Lexus is the only manufacturer with rattles though. Every single premium brand has rattles in it including Merc, BMW and Audi. Even Porsche has them so its just luck as to what you get. For example, the Audi A7 I drove for a while had rattles coming from the speaker - the worst thing about it though was the huge thunk it used to make when going over bumps - not exactly good for a car that hit £60k fully loaded. My R8 had rattles somewhere in the dash too - granted I bought it second hand but it only had 10k miles on it. Got rid of it after various problems with rattles, MMI freezing, gearbox blew up etc etc -
Hi Gary, good to hear from another 250 owner I thought I was the only one. Lexus must have tweaked the V6 in the 3gen., I do a regular run to my daughters ( 230 round trip 50/50 m/way A road ) in the 2gen I was lucky to get 32mpg, driving the same route in the same manner I have had 41mpg and I do have a rather heavy foot, your 46 is very impressive. D Id be more worried about the reading being wrong or some sort of manipulation of figures as its nigh on impossible to get 46mpg in an IS250. Maybe 38mpg on the motorway in an F-Sport with wider tyres but youd need to be very light footed and possibly travelling at 50mph. Im calling bull**** on this one

Congratulations on your purchase! Did you drive the IS200T? or just the IS300H? They are very different vehicles

3.0l V6 diesels now affected as of yesterday so Porsche has been dragged into the mix. My 2nd car was a Passat in yellow with the 1.8T engine. Was a peach but not exactly Lexus. VW getting too common nowadays and I don't like the hassle of telling insurance companies about the optional extras as I never buy a base model. I've left my RX450h for 4 weeks and it started first time with no hesitation. The battery problems are only on older RX models with a smaller battery. The IS is unaffected. It's usually been due to loose terminals at PDI that causes it -

OMG you are in for a treat when you try it! If you're thinking of doing it, get a clay mitt as you'd need atleast 4 bars to do your car if its never been clayed before! -
Yup, see it all the time. Weaving in and out of traffic, doing wheelies etc etc Worst experience I had was in my previous RX300. I was in London on the way back to my friends house in Hackney from Wembley when the works for the Olympics were taking place. It was about 7pm, visibility wasn't great and it was total gridlock. I was first at a traffic light and took off when it went green. The road was clear so I was probably doing slightly higher than the speed limit when a motorcylist tried undertaking me and went *POW* on my left mirror - clipped it pretty hard and lost balance. He was going so fast that he kept going whilst he was falling, straight into the path of my RX! Luckily Id slowed down after hearing the thud on my mirror but Im sure I would have flattened him if he'd just fell without clipping me. On a side note - the RX300 won - minor paint damage to the mirror but still worked! :). Got to say the Lexus mirrors are solid! A truck clipped me in my RX450h a while back whilst on the M1 in the super narrow third lane. The only "damage" was transfer of rubber from the trucks side covers to the RX's plastic indicator lens - came off easily with some tar remover :D

The button has to be held down for 2 seconds similiar to the fob. I cant think of what else it could be really -
Slightly Incorrect, it states in Lexus own handbook. - OEM or equivalent Parts of an equal quality. But other than using OEM parts how do you prove they are of an equal quality im not sure. I was referring to EU law itself. Some manufacturers are more lenient than others about this. I wouldnt go on the handbook though - they use the same handbook in the US too so its unlikely that would stick in court. I think its more of a DIY guide You can prove that oil is of equivalent quality due to the rating but other than that I dont know how youd prove brakes and things like that to be
-
Doesnt really prove anything though. Temperature, humidity, tyre pressures, driving style etc etc all play a factor. The only way you can realistically measure whether it makes a difference is to stick the car on a dyno with identical tyre pressures, with the termperature and humidity being somewhat the same

I should have mentioned that most dealers do stamp the book with the essential care service. They just do a normal service and discount the price, my dealer being one of them as I enquired about it. I think the issue here is, Lexus need some sort of income as the cars are very reliable. The German brand dealers tend to survive off work that is due to problems with cars outside of the manufacturers warranty. The number of times Ive been to a Merc dealer and talked to other customers and 8 times out of 10 they'll say they're getting something fixed. On the contrary, Lexus dealers don't tend to have many cars in apart from regular servicing.

Kind words Paul, If you've picked it up yesterday, it should already have been PDI'd by the dealer so shouldnt require anything other than a quick wash for the time being. However, having said that - the stuff they use is for the most BLING. It won't really last long so best to get some form of protection on the car early! -
Isnt the groaning due to surface rust on the discs? Wife's IS only does it after rain when parked outside. Doesn't do it when its come out from the garage.
