Standard "8 Speaker" Audio
rayaans replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Yes, I think it is a dummy unit - the good thing being, that if you do want a sub, you can just stick one in there! I think its just a way of cost-cutting on the production line - its easier to make one parcel shelf and not fill it with a subwoofer than making two variants for different trim levels. -

Don't forget that includes all the little ford fiestas and vauxhall corsas which are popular in red due to being a no cost optioj -
The manual does go into detail about the pop up hood. Something I found out the other day - the silver headlight washers arent for show. They stick out because the housing under them have sensors for the pop up hood. All in all, I was told by my service tech that the pop up hood will go off if you get a BIG stone near that area or anything else which makes an impact. However this is deemed to be quite rare and only affected a minority of cars in the UK. I think it was about 8 cars in total which spontaneously activated their hoods. In fact one of them was due to a kid hitting a football onto that area. There is significant evidence that the system works very well in pedestrian collisions as it reduces the chance of getting massive head injuries. Less chance of hitting the engine and other hard components. I've seen a guys head put a 6 inch depth hole in a cars bonnet before

Executive has 6 speakers with an empty parcel shelf housing. The premium nav gets 8 speakers although I can't remember whether it's a Panasonic or pioneer sound system. Id say it's more likely to be pioneer -

I think if I'm not mistaken the 11 speaker system in the 2nd gen IS is still widely regarded as a very good system, whereas there is a bigger difference between the ML system in the 3rd gen and the 8 speaker system everyone is mentioning which doesn't even have a sub? Nope, wrong end of the stick. There's less difference between the Panasonic 8 speaker setup and the 15 speaker ML setup in this generation in terms of actual sound. The 8 speaker setup does have a sub on the rear parcel shelf. -
Not really worth it for every fill up. fill it once a month with super unleaded and let it run through the system for a while. Should keep it clean.

I think red is very popular on the Jag XE but thats because most dealers are ordering the demonstrator XE S in the red along with some R- Sport models. Its not popular at all on the IS for some reason. Its a great colour but most people go for white. black or grey. -
My Review On The Is200T Sport
rayaans replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Exactly what I found with the drivetrain delay - something that the NX doesn't do which is odd. It will rev up but it needs a good prof of the throttle. Sport spec is pretty good but its better to go up to atleast F-Sport. -
****** me! Have you actually read any of the comments?! No I dont mean thinner all round. Compared to F-Sport/Premier the Luxury/SE cars have thinner tyres at the back. The Front's remain the same size no matter which version you get. The F-Sport/Premier use staggered sizes Like I said - only F-Sport/Premier use staggered sizes with 225/40 at front and 255/35 at rear. Luxury/SE models use the SAME size all the way around!! you're driving me NUTS
-
If you hold it down for a few seconds it will say traction control off but it will still be on albeit reduced. There is a way to turn it off completely but only the Lexus engineers know that one. It has a lot of indicator pulling and pushing ive been told

The Luxury and SE spec have thinner tyres in the back compared to the F-Sport and Premier. Its to reducing rolling resistance and improve economy.

The black protective strip just comes off with a hard tug and some tar remover. Its held on by 3m double sided tape. Dont know what the metallic noise could be, got none. No steaming issues here, it hasnt steamed at all actually. My air con is set to 20.5 degrees on Auto with medium blow.

My Review On The Is200T Sport
rayaans replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I was referring specifically to the 200t. From a standstill Sport mode doesn't make the delay between flooring the pedal and takeoff lower. It helps throttle response and stiffness of the steering when rolling however. -
Experts? What Experts!

I think its a relatively simple fix - get the 2.0 turbo, detune to 200hp and stick the hybrid onto it. Best of both worlds! Or, just drop a detuned 450h setup into the NX at around 250-280hp I dont think itd make a huge impact on economy tbh and if they added the memory seats and HUD as an option on the F-Sport I would buy it instantly as I think its a good overall size. The new RX is looking quite large but oh well, Ill get used to it. -
In my RX Ive only noticed minor MPG difference. It hit 34mpg in Sport mode and 36.2 in Eco and it gets seriously sluggish in Eco to the point of making hills and getting out at junctions dangerous.
-
You ahve to understand that Lexus cars are serviced every 10k miles. Some cars like Mercedes are every 20k miles so its not as cheap as it appears to be. Personally 20k miles is too much for any engine and it should be around 15k.

Rc-f's Taken A Big Hit!

Now now then, imagine that with the floating roof line from the new RX :P Id buy it if they ever took it out -
I think you're confusing EV mode with ECO mode. EV mode is activated by pressing the button. It locks the car down in "electric" only until you run out of charge or the car senses you need more power. ECO mode is activated using the drive select knob in front of the EV button which essentially dulls the throttle response and affects the air con system to reduce fuel consumption. I wouldn't recommend either mode. Just leave it in normal and use sport when you fancy. Recently Ive just been using Sport mode and had no ill effects on economy.
-
Its the oem tyres, they suck. Not much grip out of them. Id say its probably worse on Luxury models as they have thinner tyres in the back for economy. and yes, RWD has a tendency to be tail happy. In the IS, if you turn the traction control off it still intervenes but gives you enough to let the back flick round a corner.

Experts? What Experts!
rayaans replied to LEXUS-MARQUE's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I agree - the "experts" are not experts at all and always seem to have some hidden agenda of which its either to make Lexus look bad or make the Germans look better! However, having said that - there are a few points I agree with but then it depends on how you're using the car. Town driving in the NX is great - no sluggishness. On the other hand, its a PITA on the motorway, it doesn't have the grunt for overtaking and takes too much planning for any sort of maneouvre at 70mph so be sure to take the car onto a motorway when test driving. The boot space is something I dont understand - the "experts" are obsessed with it but how many people actually buy a mid size SUV that has 20L more capacity - really odd. You might want to check the mpg, don't expect anything great - average seems to be anywhere from 30-40mpg. I achieve 30mpg in town and 35mpg on the motorway in my RX which has much more power and weight and never take it out of Sport mode as the instant torque gets addictive. Ive never been too fussed with the ride as its softer than the Germans anyway but the thing that really gets me is the inability to go up hills. CVT boxes make car's lazy in general but with the NX its exaggerated as it doesn't really have enough power for a car that big. Id suggest taking it up a few steep hills to make sure its OK for you. Living in Yorkshire the NX drove me nuts up the hills as I always needed to hit the kickdown switch to get it up some near where I live and it made a racket which got tiring really fast. Take an extended test drive - atleast 24 hours so you know what its like before buying -
Lexus Nx True Mpg

Oh dear - I got 34mpg in my RX450h on Sunday in SPORT mode (which I always use now). 4mpg extra for 100hp less doesn't sound great for you guys! And of course, I live in hilly yorkshire, which is the WORST for economy! And this was over 90 miles btw :D -
Yeah they are the bees knees - awesome tyres. Id get them for every car I own if they were made in the right sizes. They properly work as well! All season's on my RX have been great so far. Very heavy rain has had no impact compared to normal tyres, very good in the dry as well. Will find out in the snow I guess but Ive never had winter tyres as I dont need/use them. You have Cross Climates on your RX? Wow. Which tyres do you have? No lol, I have Michelin Latitude Tour HP But - cross climates are great - they are on my father in law's crappy golf and they are really really good

My Review On The Is200T Sport
rayaans replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Sport mode doesn't make a huge difference from a standstill. Honestly if you're driving normally you probably won't notice, it's only when you smash the throttle to the floor from standstill. Brake torqueing helps though, it'll take off pretty quick if you do that -

Everyone pretty much loved the red interiors for some reason but I guess they don't go well with certain colours
